Very excited about this, and quite pleased about the return to a more traditional RTS. Wasn't a huge fan of DoW II. Just hope that at some point in the game's life we see as much of a variety of races and factions to choose from.

I wasn't always this way, but lately I've felt way more balanced than ever. I feel the results for this would have been very different a few years ago.
Thanks I really appreciate the alternatives. Perhaps I'll give them a shot in the future, especially if D&D doesn't work out, but I literally just bought the kit. Looks like I'm committed now. :D
Awesome, thanks for the advice guys. Really helpful, I think in that case I'll get the starter pack with the player handbook and Monster Manual. I'll leave the DM guide for when we're a little more advanced and want to go passed the early adventures.
Thanks, I definitely want the focus to be the story and role-playing experience, so as you said I think if it's going to slow things down I'll look passed rules and won't get too bogged down in the numbers.
So for a while now a group of friends and I have wanted to get started on some table top RPGs. We're particularly interested in Dungeons & Dragons, as apparently that's one of the best to start with, and from what I've read the 5th edition is great and easy to pick up and play.
My question is, do I need the Dungeon Master's guide? I know I really want the Player Handbook so we can create our own characters and the Monster Manual; as I feel it would add a lot to our experience.
However, I doubt we'll be making a new world from the get go, we'd start with the first few adventures on the Starter Box. On the other hand, from the research I've done it can be really helpful for new dungeon masters and really speed up the process. I'm probably going to be the dungeon master, and I want to be as prepared as possible for this. I don't want people loosing interest because I'm not playing my role properly or slowing things down. Of course I know we'll be somewhat slow to begin with whilst we get used to everything.
Anyways, I was hoping some of you out there who are more experienced in table top RPGs could give me some advice. It's quite an investment if I get all 4 books, and if I can wait to get the DM guide my wallet would appreciate it.
