Games I am playing (in no order).

List items

  • Solid racing game. Good driving mechanics, cool graphics and the inclusion of motorbikes is a nice touch. Pgr lacks the depth of something like Forza but its forgiving learning curve makes it a great pick up and play experience.

Also bonus points for having Tv on the Radio in the soundtrack.

  • I'm actually surprised how much I like this game, at first glance it seemed like the type of thing I wouldn't be into at all. An ultra Japanese Devil May Cry style beat em up? No thanks! However I was drawn in by the pure over the top crazy this game constantly throws at you. Seriously Bayonetta is batshit insane. To give an example the game starts with you fighting demons with your own hair while your on a rock falling down a cliff. That's the very being of the game. No character introduction, no tutorials just you fighting dudes with your hair wip. I have no idea whats going on in the story and I don't really care I'm just enjoying watching crazy set piece after crazy piece.

If you like anime and having seizures then this is the game for you and even if you don't (like me) Bayonetta is still definitely worth a rent.

  • Back when those themed Lego games were all the rage I found myself wondering why nobody was making a Lego game that was actually about Lego. Think about it you are given a digital representation of every Lego piece ever made an editor and the freedom to go nuts and make anything you could imagine. It would beat the shit out of Lego bat-man I can tell you that much. So far Banjo-Kazooie nuts and bolts is the closest anyone has come to that dream.

I will try not to get to gushy here but I think this game is something really special. The fun colorful presentation, The self mocking sense of humor and the inspired level design are enough to make this a great game but the thing that makes it a great game that I keep playing till 5 in the morning is the vehicle editing. Quite a few games have had some form of editor in them but nuts and bolts really hits the sweet spot where its simple enough to learn quickly but still deep enough to be rewarding. Its very engaging watching your carefully built machine beat your opponents in the challenges (or just fall to pieces in some cases) and the carrot on a stick method of slowly giving you better and better parts is additive to say the least. Basically what I'm saying is buy this game right now.

Also good on Rare for having the balls to try something new instead of rehashing the same old crap
