I've got 500 gigs on my Playstation 3, now what?

I know the timing is weird since PSN is down and I can't really purchase any new content, but I finally got around to upgrading my launch Playstation 3 to 500 gigs. The entire process took 6 1/2 hours, but I was only physically involved for about a half an hour. The other 6 hours was the time it took the PS3 to backup and restore to and from an external hard drive. The two biggest challenges wer figuring out how to format the backup external drive so that the Playstation 3 would recognize it (FAT32), and removing the evil blue screw that was tight and easily stripped.

God, it took me forever to get that stupid blue screw out. Not to mention that one of the tray screws was already stripped... Did you stick the same speed HDD or a faster one?

  1. Put all your music on it.
  2. Make sweet playlists for menus and races in Gran Turismo 5.
  3. Watch the game lock up while playing custom music because it can't even do that right.

Agree really sucks. If you want MKV files to play you need to use something like mkv2vob, but it blows having to go through all the hoops.

Then and again, Windows doesn't natively support it. And neither does the 360. But near-universal internet consensus would say that MKV is by far the best format out there thanks to the advent of the Combined Community Codec Pack.

I put entire TV series and movies on mine.  If you go through the effort of getting all HD content, you can burn through the ~470GB pretty quickly.
