Cool. Thanks for the posts. I used to have a larger library of games but then I moved into a 500 sq foot house with a girlfriend, dog, and two cats and decided that I didn't necessarily need all that shit. I really like my sealed big box copy of Planescape Torment.
I like Suikoden from the PS1 era, available on the PSN market.
It's a story that feature numerous characters. I think there are a possible 100 or more characters you can recruit. I love its story. A rebellion against the empire story with genocide/betrayal/assassinations. You'll get your own castle which grows as you recruit more characters.
The turn-based combat is pretty straightforward, however, certain characters can make combo attacks. Like if you have 2 brothers on a team they'll have their own special attack, or the circus performers will do a knife throwing/fire breathing attack.
Suikoden was a childhood favorite and is pretty much the be all/end all for the genre for me. FFX was a good game, but I say no thanks to current gen FF games, Tales of Vesperia, Resonance of Fate, etc.
The next generation is just around the corner. I don't see myself getting an Xbox One or PS4 right out of the gate. I'm slow to adapt big new products (just got my iPhone 4 this year) and I like to wait to see what software library the consoles will have once they gain some footing.
I traded away a bunch of my games to get as much credit from Amazon before the "bubble" burst with the official announcements of the newest consoles. I traded away games that I figured I could get a comparable version for my PC or were probably better on the PC anyways. Some were even favorites like X-COM (which I just bought on the Steam sale). So many games these days are cross-platform and very few are either party exclusive or even CONSOLE exclusive.
Oddly enough, many of my selections are 3rd person action/adventure games.
Shadows of the Damned (360) - A unique game which was a console exclusive.
Castlevania: Lords of Shadow (360) - Great atmosphere, console exclusive.
Bayonetta (360) - quirky, weird, console exclusive. (It's genre successor, DMC, has a good PC version).
Enslaved (360) - pretty good action/adventure with a one of a kind story.
I'm still playing Skyrim, Mortal Kombat, Injustice, and my XBLA titles. Even though I am not actively playing them I'll be keeping the 4 games mentioned above simply because they are unique to my 360.
Let me know if you guys have any other favorites that'll stay rooted in your collection.
We have lost a true friend and leader. Ryan's voice and spirit and love for our hobby has been a comforting, inspiring, and necessary part of my life for many years now, week after week. My condolences go out to his family and his wife. My condolences go out to the Giant Bomb crew. My condolences go out to the community that will no longer have a contemporaneous Ryan Davis, nesting in their cochlea in the weeks to come.
I look forward to watching episodes of TANG in the future. I look forward to watching an Endurance Run, again. I've restarted going through the Bombcast catalog (again) to have some nice "shop talk" while I work on house chores/laundry/wash the car. As far as I'm concerned, Ryan, you're going to live mother-fucking-forever.
@Jeff, Brad, Vinny, Patrick, Alex, Drew, Dave and the rest of the GB crew: I want you guys to take care of yourselves. I want you to rest, to grieve, and have time to reflect. The show will go on, but we can wait.
