A Whiny Blog

Ugh, I just need to whine somewhere. I won't post this on the forums though, hehe.

Unemployed, now for three months. It sucks, and it sucks hard. I worked at a recordstore for two years, and eventually reality hit the store with that more or less no one buys CDs / Vinyls anymore. My boss had to close down the store, and since then I haven't found a single job. I spend about 3-4 hours per day sending out applications to various companies and stores, but I seriously barely heard from anyone, and when they actually take the time to reply it's always "Thank you for your application, but unfortunatly we found someone else". Being unemployed for three months might sound awesome in theory (woo, videogames all day long!), but in reality it just blows. I have no money, I can't go out and drink with my friends, and I can't buy anything fun.

About to get kicked out from my studentdorm. In my town you can only live in a studentdorm for a maximum of five years, and to top off my unemployment I just found out that I can't stay in my dorm anymore. Well, I'm 28 so I figure it was about time anyway, but tell me how easy it is to find a new apartment, especially when you're unemployed? So now the only option I'm left with is to move in with my girlfriend in her one-room apartment. I love my girlfriend (and I'm very glad she's sticking with me through these hard times), but as much as I love her I can't imagine that living together in a one-room apartment is a long-term good idea.

I can't imagine anyone actually reading or commenting on this blog, I think I just needed to put it down in writing somewhere.

There Goes My S-Rank

With one achievement left to do in Borderlands (to complete all the quests in the General Knoxx DLC) I set off to complete the very last quest, "It's Like Christmas!".

I accidently triggered a glitch (yes really, I didn't even know it existed until I did some research), which at first seemed awesome. Unlimited time to go nuts in the fort's last area with all its loot! Unfortunatly something weird happened, as the questobjective "Steal loot" checked, which means the regular door to the loot-area won't ever open up, and it's impossible to complete the quest.

So yes, 10 hours of playing this DLC down the drain. It was a fun ride, but I sure as hell don't want to go through it all again with a different character. So yeah, in short I'm fucking pissed off right now. Damnit. :(

Dolls...why dolls?!

So I'm casually playing through Condemned 2: Bloodshot. Usually a level every late evening before hitting the bed. So far I love it, but it's so freaking tense to be playing alone in a totally dark room (it can't be too bright where you're playing, since then you won't see shit in the game). I just got to the fourth level which is...an abandoned dollfactory. Great. As if the game wasn't scary enough, now I must hear giggling dolls from nowhere combined with the usual scary shit?

Sad face!

Whoa

Just checked the stats on a guide I wrote for Persona 4 almost a year ago, and just noticed I've had 316 unique visitors and they spent 4078 (68 hours!) viewing it.

That's kind of cool! I guess!

Gah, another evening at the girlfriend

Don't get me wrong, I love my girlfriend over anything else in the world. We have a small tradition of sleeping at her place every fridayevening, mostly because we always sleep at my place otherwise. However, after dinner, snuggle, and some TV-watching my girlfriend always fall asleep around 10-11pm. Like, hours before I even start thinking about going to bed. This is where I normally fire up my 360 to get some quality playtime, but when we're at her place I have jackshit to do at that point, other than watching horrible TV-shows.

Woe is me. :(

I Must Be an Idiot

Ngh. At the moment I'm juggling both Banjo-Kazooi and Condemned 2: Bloodshot. I mostly play Banjo-Kazooi when it's still sunny outside, mostly because Condemned demands such dark surroundings to play. But now all I can think of is to download Banjo-Tooie as soon as I've S-Ranked Banjo-Kazooie.

That's not the dumb part though, I often find myself juggling with several games at the same time. However, this monday I have no less than 4 games dropping down my mailbox: Just Cause 2, Alan Wake, Red Dead Redemption and Viva Pinata: Trouble in Paradise. How the fuck will I divide up these games?! It'll be an overload in my brain what to play first damnit. I figure I'll probably play Alan Wake first, since it's far more linear than the other three games...but I fear I've gone overboard this time.

Bargainbin, you say?

Browsing my favourite onlinestore today I saw a new deal which caught my eye. Bioshock (yes, the first one) and Oblivion in the same package for 20 Euro (~24$) for X360.

Is there something I should even think twice about before I hit the shiny "BUY NOW"-button?!

Is This the End of ER As We Know It?

So yeah, the Deadly Premonition ER just ended (at least for Vinny and Jeff), and if one should take Jeff's words literally it's not likely we'll see another ER again. He ends the last episode with lines such as "never again" (I can't hear the exact words right now, as I'm at work at the moment). I really don't know wether to take him serious or not. I'm sure he says it in a joking manner, but who knows? Reading his newspost you again get the feeling he really don't want to touch another ER again.

Are we to believe we won't see another ER again, even if Persona 5 would be released anytime soon? Hold me, I'm scared.

So My Heart Just Stopped

Was playing Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, and anyone who've played the game know how freaking painful it is to get the Jiggillionaire! achievement (collecting all 131 jiggies). So I spent my entire free day today to mop up all the stuff I was missing, specificly T.T. Trophies in various challenges. Looking at replays, downloading some new blueprints, and so on. I just completed the final trophy, and my heart was pounding. I loaded up the final jiggie in the trolly, went to the bank, and the TV-Guy gave his speach.

Then nothing. No achievement unlocked. No anything. Oh, and the game saved (and in case you didn't know, the game just has an autosave, so no savespots per say). My heart just stopped. I loaded up google and started typing in various searchwords. No reports on anyone having any similar issue. At this point I just thought "alright, so I have to delete my savegame and start over?!". In a last desperate attempt I went back to the Xbox Dashboard, and restarted the game...holding my breath...

And yay! As soon as I loaded my save the achievement (and my fancy new Gamer Picture) unlocked! Oh boy was I thrilled, and there's no way in hell I ever change my Gamer Picture now.

Rare...what a rare and wonderful company.

If you look at my achievements you'll notice I've been playing a lot of Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts lately. And holy hell that game is awesome! Platforming mixed with unique and crazy vehicle-creation. Yeah I know, I'm about two years late to play this gem (which is evident when trying to find online races...there are none), but I definatly recommend this to anyone who find that sort of stuff funny. When the paycheck arrive this Thursday I might (and probably) even pick up Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie, the two first games in the serie originally released to the N64, from XBLM.

The wacky (and I agree, sometime childish) humour is nudging me just in the right places. It's silly and goofy, but with a smart twist. I did some more searching regarding the company behind these amazing titles, Rare, and it turns out the company is behind some of the all-time classics for the SNES and N64. Just take a look at their page, I'm sure you'll get just as surprised as I did (or it's just me who've been living under a rock). Even better, I found Viva Pinata: Trouble In Paradise in a bargainbin today for eleven euros. Woop!

Sadly it seems that the company itself is somewhat stagnant these days...or rather, not much seems to be going on anymore. Their only release during 2009 was the XBLM release of Banjo-Tooie, and so far this year we've only seen the release of the N64 game Perfect Dark, again for the XBLM. The two founders (and brothers) of the company, Tim and Chris Stamper, left Rare in 2007 to "persuit other projects". I'm a bit worried the company is slowly fading away, thus we've only seen two XBLM releases of two old games in the past 2 years. I for one really hope things aren't so grim. I read some rumour that they have a release or two ready for the Natal release, but considering how much shit I've heard about that I remain unsatisfied.

Please Rare, don't fade away into the abyss. That is all.
