Giant Bomb... Guts and Glory

Living in the underbelly of Giant Bomb is a strange thing. Sometimes you learn quick, sometimes slow... and always the community surprises you. Lists are big now and that's not counting the free updates of achievements and trophies which you can view at any time.

Motherfucking blogs are fucking free. I'm talking gaming free, quote free, curse free, fucking I hate the Wii free. You hate the shit, fucking hell, tell the world. Giant Bomb has it... the world.  But remember there are other people here, I'm here. I love my Wii. Cross me? Yeah, fun in the sun unless I ignore you and  that means you're nothing more than a troll, strongly ignored.

Fucking blog this is, so fuck it. Words done... I'm off to the forums to be undone.

The real Citizen Kane games list.

Here's a list of my top 10 games that remind me of the hoopla that is the Citizen Kane comparison to Video Games. For those not knowing what's going on, here's Kotaku's article on the subject.

1. Grim Fandango

Heard of film noir, well, here's game noir.

2. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Took the elements of a classic action adventure game and incorporated them into a 3D realm. Pure magic.

3. Half-Life

There were plenty of shooters out there and then came Half Life.

4. Grand Theft Auto III

The kid in me wanted to play in this sandbox and it did not disappoint my mature soul.

5. Super Mario 64

Platformers would never be the same again.

6. Resident Evil 4

B horror movie franchise that got a AAA action upgrade.

7. The Sims

Reality television became big in 2000, so did this game.

8. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

As a reviewer once said, step out of the sewers and hello National Geographic wonderland.

9. Halo: Combat Evolved

The behemoth from Bungie brought multiplayer console gaming into the 21st century.

10. BioShock

Say what you will, but this game was a moving cinematic experience.

Nothing what I thought.

A delete tool went live today, that's good for the Wiki guys. They're having a field day. I thought it would be chaos on the forums with the one year anniversary and all, but it's the Wiki that gets the last laugh. Power to the people... so, good for Giant Bomb and the community.

What I thought would turn into this.

Forum fun!!!

Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online: Beta 2 Impressions

I signed up for the PC closed beta of Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online about a month ago and finally got in on the beta 2. This game is streamed and played on your web browser, so there's no downloads. I've played about 6 rounds and so far so good. Your first time logging in you're asked to run an optimizer which determines how well the game will look according to your PC specs. I was able to play with everything turned up. The game looks decent, but some people on the official forums are not that impressed. I think it looks on par with the Xbox 360 and PS3 counterparts. The only gameplay option is the oldschool three click swing, but EA has stated that TrueSwing technology will be implemented before the public release.

The game runs great over my web browser, hardly any lag or framerate issues. The 3D world looks good with nice textures, lighting and the usual ambiance of playing in a virtual golfing atmosphere. EA only has two 18 hole courses "Pebble Beach and TPC Sawgrass" available to play. A community challenge has been given to open up a third course which basically comes down to rounds played. You can only upgrade your stats by playing the two courses and accumulating money through playing well. You then take that money and increase your attributes by purchasing them. Some aspects of the game are not allowed during the beta 2, but it seems they will open up during the next beta.

This game will be free for all to play, but according to IGN there will be a multi-tiered subcription service to allow for more content. When the game releases in Q3 2009, it will have tournaments and be largely community based. I posted some screens below.

I'm curious to see how the TrueSwing implementation will work. Three click is one thing, but to control your golfer with the mouse without lag will be quite a feet. I'm also curious of how well this game will sell. Is this the future of PC gaming? Will it help stop pirating? We'll see.

I review video games when I write words.

I like to read reviews. I also like to laugh at how dumb these so called professional video game reviewers can be. While reading this review of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 for the Wii from the Official Nintendo Magazine UK, I found these sentences in the review.

"Unfortunately putting is still too random in feel. Far too often we practised our putting (by holding A and B at the same time - B on its own swings your club for real), matching the suggested power level almost exactly, only to attempt the real thing and see the ball rocket ten feet past the hole. We tried at different distances from the sensor bar to see if that affected it, but to no avail."

We tried at different distances from the sensor bar to see if that affected it, but to no avail.

I highlighted the part that caught my eye. Okay, Official Nintendo Magazine UK, let's go slow so you will understand. The sensor bar has nothing to do with motion, it's only used for the IR "infrared pointer functionality" that's it. The motion devices used in the Wii remote are sent to the Wii via Bluetooth. The sensor bar does not matter when you're pointing at the ground attempting a putt using motion controls, you got that. Whew.

I would expect the general public to not understand this, but this was written by the Official Nintendo Magazine UK. Dumb asses.

There's no moral to this story. I will continue to read enthusiast press video game reviews and will continue to laugh at how clueless they can be.

The Conundrum: Hardcore/Casual

GameCube 1.5

Hardcore Casual
Hardcore Casual

Hardcore wut?

What is it to be a hardcore gamer? Who perpetuates this term? Is hardcore next gen? What the fuck is hardcore? Check this out... I was on the Nintendo Channel browsing around on my Wii. I found where you could recommend a game. I decided to recommend Tiger Woods 10. Turned out to be a survey... This question broke my heart. Would you consider this game "Casual or Hardcore"? What the fuck, I was stumped. It could be both. All-Play mode is so easy a two year old could play it. Hell, Tiger Woods for the Wii is all over the place with difficulty and has a boatload of features and games. I logged out of the question for I could not answer.

So, What the hell is hardcore? Gamers, Enthusiast Press, Publishers and Developers all have a hand in the hardcore pie. Question is where does it grow? Who helped create the internet message boards gaming culture? I kind of understand "core" gamer. But what the hell is hardcore?

I don't consider myself hardcore, and I don't understand people who claim to be hardcore. Hell, I might be a hardcore player. My gaming life is all over the place. There's an ebb an flow from gotta play Xbox 360 games with my dual analog gamepad, PC games with the sweet keyboard mouse combo for all types of genres and my Wii with its options galore. Oh, and for the PS3 people, I wish I had one, so many games missed. Maybe I'm hardcore with needs.

What is hardcore? What is casual? Is there such a thing as a hardcore casual player?

Nintendo did not forget about me.

This is a profanity-laced tirade... you have been warned.

I'm sick and fucking tired of people bashing the Wii and Nintendo. These cry baby motherfuckers get on my last goddamn nerve. "Nintendo forgot about the core gamer." Shut the fuck up with that shit. No, they fucking did not. My Wii has brought me much joy with our time together, much more than my Xbox 360 has given me. You know, some of us unemployed care giving individuals can't afford those sweet ass motherfucking high definition televisions and their 1080p, 1080i, 720p. Some of us unlucky bastards have to play our video games on a 36" flat screen CRT monitor with... wait for it... 480i. That's right 480i motherfuckers and there's a shit load of us out there. And dare I say, we are the motherfucking majority you fucking ass bags. If anybody left anybody behind, it's the fucking gaming press, oh sorry Jeff, the enthusiast gaming press. Sitting in their ivory gaming towers playing their games in hi-rez having forgotten some us don't have that luxury. If I hear that douche Ryan O'Donnell call himself  "hardcore" one more time, I'm going to reach through my modem and punch him in his motherfucking throat. Tae K. Kim from GamePro throw this peace of shit gaming journalistic diatribe of a writer into the mix as well. He starts his reviews like this when discussing Nintendo and the Wii.

do I blame Nintendo for creating a console whose lack of hardware power essentially handcuffs every developer who tries to create a "next-gen" game for it?

and this beauty

I once called Wii Sports a glorified tech demo on the GamePro forums, much to the chagrin of the Wii fanboys.

Oh that's classic, call them as you see 'em you peace of shit. He writes a shitty review and people jump all over his ass and what does this dick do. TWEET, TWEET.

Forget words. What i need is one of those Red Faction sledgehammers. And the addresses of everyone who bitches in our comments.

That's great Tae, threaten GamePro's fan base. Twitter Dee and twitter dumb, you fucking dumb ass.

And let us not forget our beloved Giant Bomb community shall we. "My Wii is a dust collecter." What the fuck does that mean? Check my achievements dicks. I haven't played my Xbox 360 since June the motherfucking 1st. Is it collecting dust? Hell fucking no, I have that shit covered as to not collect dust.

I remember when Jeff and the boys were still working at Gamespot and they got a PS3 for the first time. They touched it like it was some fucking peace of black gold. Praising its shine and placing their fingerprint on its hi-tech casing. Then came the Wii. Jeff and Ryan played it from the couch, trying to bowl and wondering why it didn't work so well. They looked so goddamn bored, I thought they were going to fall asleep. Stand up, what... are you afraid? I knew when I came to this site that Giant Bomb would cater to the HD crowd. That's one of the reasons I'm here, to have dissenting opinion. And that's why I will stay, just to keep an eye on snarcastic views of games that diserve better.

I'm here to stay motherfuckers. You'll have to run me off, because I ain't leaving.

My name is Claude and I love my Wii. I love my goddamn Wii.

Thanks for fucking reading.

Tiger Woods w/ Motion Plus: First Impressions

Motion Plus makes a big difference... I said it. The best example is the Disc Golf Mode. I played with and without the Motion Plus adapter and without the adapter, your

Your virtual hand likes Motion Plus in Disc Golf.

virtual disc golf hand feels sluggish, but with Motion Plus... spot on. Is it true one to one? Pretty much from what I've played, but hey... who's counting milliseconds.

The Motion Plus adapter came in a box with Tiger Woods for me. I bought the bundle. It's already in the extended silicon glove, but I play without the "glove", so I took it out. I also play strapless... cheeky.

This is the best controlling most realistic video golf game I've ever played. You could play from a wheelchair, one handed or set up for your best real life on course swing and see your results come to fruition. You move with Motion Plus and your golfer moves, a challenge sure, but you still have options, modes, online... go for it.

Motion Plus works, fair enough... now let's see what everyone does with it.
