Diving into The Deep Hole and other stories.

Endless Ocean: Blue World

What an incredible game. Twenty five hours in and it seems like I've barely played it. It's the small things that matter.
 My artful shot of Oceana.

This is a game, a video game and it plays like one. At the beginning, you're introduced to the end of the story, but then you're taken back to where it all began. The story is fun and as you continue, it opens up the world in which you will dive over and over. The story can be quite touching in some moments and there are puzzles too, but nothing real hard. I've searched and found the origin of the Dragon's Song and the Pacifica Treasure, but my journey or job is not over as I've found myself searching for lost treasure, being a guide, a photographer and being a curator of a Japanese Aquarium.
 Scavenger time.

The slow pace fits me well, relaxing, learning and at some points, moments of exuberance. There is so much to do in this game even after the story, it's pretty damn crazy. You can't die, but you can get bitch slapped by sharks, shocked by electric eels and attacked by piranha. You only lose oxygen, but hey, that shit still sucks. You can buy upgrades for your equipment, so you can dive deeper and longer. You have a special island reef that is yours to plant any type of coral, which you can buy, that will attract fish and maybe even a bonus fish, haven't done that yet. You can also buy stuff for your home base, Nineball Island.
 Nice shot man.

Yeah, this game is rock solid and well worth the price of admission. It controls great, feels great and is full of pleasure.

Red World is a dream. Blue World lives to dream. It lives, that's the key.

But what a dream it is.

Nonetheless you make a compelling argument. Until 3D Realms puts Red World into development, I'll have to survive on Blue World.

I would still buy Red World.

What are the goals, as you experienced them?  I'm still not quite sure.  I'd rather not read some official explanation, more what you felt the goals were.

@ahoodedfigure:

The story was a goal within itself, plus you added more divers to your team as the story progressed.  All of the side quests give you money according on how well you did on the quest. For instance, I had taken three photography jobs, but the last one I submitted to a magazine was turned down and I was given a "C" for my effort and less money. The guided tours work the same way, if you don't find what the customer wants to see, you get less money. People also hire you to scavenge for lost treasure.

Anything you scavenge can be sold for money, by calling Nancy. She sells all the upgrades and anything else you need.

There's also a notebook that is on a desk, on Nineball Island, with all the quests, rumors of treasure and so and so forth. The encyclopedia on the desk is updated as you find new fish. Any new fish you find can be added to the Japanese Aquarium, but you're limited to how many fish you can have in each tank. You get paid for this too.

All the money you make goes to upgrades in many areas, including odds and ends for Nineball Island and new coral for you personal reef, kind of like a flower garden.

Once the story part was over, searching for the origin of the Dragon's Song and the Pacifica Treasure, you actually gain nothing. It fits the story, and I don't want to give it away. But let's just say, you need lots of money to reenter and scavenge that area.

Wow, that's a lot, I hope that answered your question.

@Claude:  You did answer my question, and you stayed on task the whole time.  So much for your lack of attention span theory :)

Sounds like an interesting game.  I don't need everything to be splosions.  I actually like photography games anyway...  like Beyond Good and Evil had a fun photo minigame to it which I liked; and weird as it sounds, Afrika looked like a game I'd get for the PS3 just because I enjoy the challenge of framing a shot and capturing it in real time.

Thanks for the synposis; I appreciate it!

Hahaha. It's a great game. GB has their own specific stuff. that's why they let us review for them. Why have 6 reviews on a game that GB already said they loved and everyone agrees? They don't review this because it's not their style and everyone makes fun. I just did my review of it. Play it and then comment. Also... I want to see Endless Ocean: Red World. Totally full of dead sharks and mermen and merwomen. Like I say, don't go diving without a speargun, cause that's when you get eatten.
