Ten Nostalgic Games

A list of ten games from my younger years that bring back fond memories. In order of date of having played.

List items

  • I used to play this game at my friends house when I stayed over. I would get up before my mate the next morning, turn on the Nintendo and just screw around with the different weapons and make Kirby dance for me.

  • I had a friend who was a huge Genesis and Sonic nut. He always played as Sonic and I always played as Tails, so every minute or so he would have to wait for me to catch up. Man that was annoying. I now have the game on my Xbox 360 and I still play as Tails, I don't know why but I've always preferred that fox over Sonic. Weird.

  • Another one of my mate's Genesis games, this time I wasn't just playing catch up. We kicked major butt, while shouting lines from the series. Ah, good times.

  • I was conflicted with either putting Super Mario 64 or Goldeneye 007 on this list, but went for the former because I sucked at Goldeneye and with Mario I could just sit back and go swimming or jump around the castle.

  • I remember getting this game on my first and only trip to the States. I was around about twelve and I remember not opening the box and just looking at the back nearly the whole 7 hour flight home, just being really excited at playing with some Greeks. In the non-queer way, that is.

  • I played this game at my Kirby friend's house when I was about 14. I really loved the adult humor and the references to movies that were out at the time. Also the multiplayer rocked. I now have the Xbox version, but it's missing splitscreen multiplayer and it just isn't the same with souped up graphics.

  • My brother would probably put this game at the top of his all time favourites list and I enjoyed it immensely too. Everything from the cutscenes to the history to the wide open tactical battles was right up our alleys. We would brag to eachother with how few men we could defeat the AI's massive onslaughts.

  • This is the first ever shooter I played. A friend got me to download the multiplayer demo and eventually join a Team-Killing clan. These were guys who knew that one demo's level through and through and who would do anything to annoy the other players on the server without being kicked, like playing deathmatch or stealing the objectives and hiding al the while misusing the bugs in the game. Too bad later members turned out to be real arseholes.

  • I enjoyed this game way more than RTCW and I was amazed after playing that game for so long that I seemed to be so good at Battlefield 1942. I would rake up kills and completely take the enemy by surprise by taking spawnpoints they thought were secure or frustrate them by playing hide and seek around these spawnpoints eventually wearing them down. Gotta love tactical multiplayer.

  • The only fighting game I ever really got into or good at, not as much as my brother who played DOA 2 online and had a pretty decent rank. He did however recently say that with players online he would get their strategy after a few fights, but with me he was always cautious, because he never knew what I would do next. Always nice to hear you don't completely suck at a game.
