@iigrayfoxii: I imagine (although I haven't seen it said anywhere) the reasoning is to prevent new players from spending their money on cards that cannot be used. Although if that is the reason, a more elegant solution would have been to display a large warning when trying to purchase an expired expansion.

Goddamnit - I literally just crafted Dr. Boom last week, my first legendary to craft (got a few randoms in card packs), bloody hell :(

Aside from that I think this is a much needed change, the only downside IMO is that you cannot buy the old adventures which I feel were fun to play in their own right.

I've always had serious issues trying to suggest gift ideas to loved ones mostly because anything on the cheap end that I want I tend to buy for myself, and anything more expensive I feel bad about suggesting.

  • Given that you're into games but feel like you're pretty covered there have you considered any books on gaming? You could suggest a subscription to boss fight books (http://bossfightbooks.com/) or a subset thereof or some of read-only memory books.
  • Maybe there's some video game art that they could get you and have framed? Is there a particular game you happen to be especially fond of? For example I've had my eye on this Dark Souls Poster (http://www.fangamer.com/products/laudate-solis) or this map (http://store.iam8bit.com/products/videogames-world-map); there's an article on kotaku (here) by Keza McDonald on places to get started.
  • Someone suggested Keep Talking And Nobody Explodes - definitely a great idea if they print out the instructions and have them bound / or put in a big folder
  • Since you're into animals and travel, maybe a David Attenborough documentary set (e.g. Planet Earth)
  • Maybe there's a hobby or something you've been interested in that she could get you an afternoon out to try?
  • For the girlfriend, a weekend away or something so that you two can get some shared experiences out of it
  • If all else fails my gf got my a big fluffy robe for Christmas and I goddamn love it - my apartment was always a bit cold in the mornings when I have to get up early for college or late at night when I have to work late.

I'm in the EU so not sure if your link will work for me, but have been planning on giving this a shot when my exams are over next week, figure we can help each other out then!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone - I've gone with loom, gunpoint, thomas was alone and sword and sworcery, should be enough to keep me going I hope!

@jesus_phish: I've actually played through Bastion already and loved every minute of it, am very interested in Transistor although I'm worried that I might be somewhat hampered just using a laptop keyboard + trackpad.

@jaymii Papers Please could be exactly the sort of thing I'm looking for. I have played an absolute tonne of games from the snes / genesis era. To answer your question - I have yet to have a flight where I can charge my laptop, so for the purposes of this exercise let's assume we're going battery only.

So I've got a seven hour flight from Dublin to New York tomorrow morning and since my schedule these last few years has left little time for any gaming aside from the occasional game of Hearthstone, I figured it'd be a good chance to play a game or two. The machine I'll be using is a Macbook Air (early 2014 model).

If anyone has any suggestions for a good game, preferably short enough to finish on the flight let me know!

Found a tenner in my wallet and picked this little beauty up today. Now I face the dilemma of whether to play through it before GBeast play more, or watch along with their playthrough.
