"You gay fag" The kids behind the microphones

As some of you guys might know, I work at a game shop in Australia (creatively called GAME) while I'm studying my Journalism Degree full time. I'm often exposed to tons of interesting people, for better and worse. Most of the time it's just 19-25 year old guys with their girlfriends browsing, the dad with the kids and wife agreeing to "meet him back here" is also another popular customer. There is (with every retail job) the angry mum and the snot nosed- little shit of a kid who gets whatever he wants by whining hard enough.

Yesterday, as I worked through my 3-9 shift, this group of 11-12 year old kids came in and for fuck sake...you know those kids who scream and swear on Xbox Live/PSN/Steam? Yeah, they're like that in real life as well.

As they went around the shop touching displays and messing up the games (which I have no problem with, they're kids after all) some of the shit that came out of their mouths was just fucking terrible.

"Bioshock 2? thats a fucking shit game for pussies, I was waiting for the girl to give me a blowjob hahahahah"
"OMG NAUGHTY BEAR this bear kills shit n stuff, ill give you a blowjob if you get that game man!!"
"The PS3 has internet on it so you can go on redtube on the big screen *giggle like little girls*"

So, the mum comes in from another shop carrying a bunch of bags and stands with the boys as they decided which game they wanted.

"How about this one?" said the mum as she picked up the On Sale Mirrors Edge
" Shutup mum, you don't get to talk in here"
The mum just turns around and smiles at me as if to say 'Oh those boys :-D'

I stopped paying attention and served and greeted a few customers and the kids and mum came up to the counter with a copy of Bioshock 2 (Rated MA in Australia, the highest our shitty rating system goes at the moment) and I say to the mum "Is it ok that this is MA?" which she replied "he gets whatever will shut him up" and again, I got the 'those boys of mine hey ? :-D!!' smile.

The mum pays for the game and leaves the shop. The kids stay behind to see if they can annoy me by asking if I was gay or if i thought they were attractive.

Anyway, this is a call out to anyone that works in retail, any similar stories? and do you think the age of saying stuff you would only say on the internet in real life is upon us?

Theory seems possibly but I know a lot of people who will call you a "gay fag" online and they are definitely old enough to buy their own games.

Also, if you work retail anything, please shut the fuck up and serve me.

99 percent of the time 12 year old boys are little shit bastards that contribute nothing to the world. They should lock them all up until their 15-16.( make the world a better place!)

I think we should torture today's kids until they learn to behave. That will show them some respect. Now where's my paddle?

This is mostly untrue. My parents let me do whatever I want, have never monitored my internet usage, let me play violent games and the like. They've been like this since I was like 6 -- their idea of parenting is basically, "We'll give him whatever he wants with some limitations" which worked out pretty well for the most part.

Anyway, point being that I've been on the internet and exposed to weird shit for years (I was on /b/ when I was 10... what a cesspit) and aside from having no reaction to violent/disgusting imagery anymore, I'm pretty much completely normal. It's more the kid's fault than the parents -- the kids don't give a damn.

Why can't we? Yeah obviously some of it is the parents fault, but that doesnt change the fact that its the horrible little fuckers themselves that are doing the shit

You know what?  I think this age of internets and real world political correctness that adults live mean today's youth aren't aware of the real world results of their actions.  They grow up in an age where you can call someone all sorts of names and get away with it.

I worked in a coffee shop for a while when I was 14 (part time, of course) and a bunch of 11-12 year olds came in. They had just started at their new school (As in, they moved up from Primary school) and they were feeling like gods. So they were ordering drinks and stuff but being extremely rude to me. "GET ME A FUCKING CUP OF COFFEE YOU SLOW TWAT" ect ect.  At the tables they were being loud and irritating and disrupting all the other customers.

I totally spilled a cup of hot coffee all over one of their brand new uniforms. He was pissed, and began to start a fight with me but I just stood up straight and he backed down. One of the perks of being tall for my age. Of course I gave it the old "I'm so sorry mate let me help you there" routine but they all knew.

And then I quit.

I was fortunate to be at a EB Games at the mall, One of the security guards at the mall was an old high school bud of mine and he regularly chilled there and talked.

One day this group of delinquents was just as you described. Knocking over shit, abusing the PS3 interact by slamming the controllers against it by spouting out "PS3 IS GAY, IT DOSENT EVEN HAVE HALO! WHAT A BUNCH OF SHIT!" ...
I, being the supervisor and the only one working at the time, asked if they had their moms present. Because it was a tuesday morning in September, most of the time these nose-pickers are at school already.
Since they were pretty much knocking over boxes at the Wii and PS3 section while proclaiming their love for Halo and Crackdown at the 360 wall, I went ahead and let them know if they can please get out of the store. They 3 kids preceded to gang up on a 6'4'' M.O.D. and began to call me a fag and shit like that. So, i went ahead and called security. My bud came by, so i openly said out loud "get these pieces of shit out of my store".

Thought that was that.

Later in the afternoon, the mother comes in with one of them and demands to know why i called the kid a piece of shit. I denied, and denied, played my cool card. I even said I can call the security that took them away. Bud came by, and said "The gentleman here said none of that miss, it was your son that was shouting obscenities in front of other customers".  BS cus there was no one else there at the time, but anyway. Mother left, child with the scolding only a mother can give, and that was that.

Sometimes its good to have friends in high places... ... or as mall security cops.

I used to work at Blockbuster and there were always customers that would come in and explain why the store sucks for charging so much and the late fees. Every time they leave, I go to my co-workers and even my boss (who was very chill, surprisingly) and would say, "why the fuck do they even come in here? you know you're paying x amount of money, plus late fees, so why do you still keep coming in here and fucking renting?"

I understand your pain. Customer service is a bitch...

Here's a story of  my inability to restrain myself from dealing with a couple of rude teenagers. In retrospect, I should've just let things go, but for some reason I was having a bad day.

I've been teaching kids over in Korea for the past ten years, and although I've had a few experiences with kids who lack manners, my favorite encounter is something that I'll never forget. I had just finished doing some tutoring at an apartment building and I was riding the elevator down to the main floor (I was coming from the 18th floor and each floor only has 2 suites). When I arrived at the main floor, there were 2 teenage boys waiting to get in. I got out of the elevator, headed to the main door of the building and was greeting by high pitched voices shouting "Asshole" and "Fag" coming from the elevator I had just left. By the time I had turned around, the door had closed and the elevator was on it's way up.

I waited to see which floor the elevator stopped, and to my pleasant surprise, it stopped on the 18th floor. I took the elevator back up, rang the bell of the suite I just came from, and made the excuse that I forgot my phone. Sitting at the table, with books open were these same two boys (The mother of the children I teach also tutors other children as well). I asked them where they learned their wonderful English, to which they replied "Canada." I told them that I was from Canada, and that calling a Canadian an asshole was the same as asking them if they wanted a punch in the face. Then, I told them I would wait for them next week after my class. The beautiful thing is that the mother of the house I was at doesn't speak any English and didn't understand what we were saying.

The following week, I left class and waited on the 18th floor. When the door opened, I grabbed one of the punks by the collar and told the other one that I would punch his friend if he didn't remove his shoes and socks. Then I told the other kid to do the same. I grabbed their school bags, shoes and socks and threw them out the small window from the 18th floor. Then I said to them, "I guess you're right. I really am an asshole. But I'm a mean asshole who doesn't like punks like you."

I see them every week and never have a problem with them anymore.

It's just another case of bad parenting. If I said something like that to either of my parents, they would've beat my ass, no matter what my age was.

If I was you, I would've kicked them out of the store. Things like that are inappropriate for anybody to be doing in a store, let alone some 12 year old punks.

Also, they "kids these days" thing is just a stereotype. Trust me, I don't act like that, even online. ;D

It's painful to know that this happened, I've seen misbehaving kids with parents who seemed like they couldn't care less but I don't think I've ever seen anything this extreme. This kind of crappy parenting is the sort of thing which gives video gamers a bad name and it's obviously severely fucked up those kids.

Then they'll be like that forever. They need to live through being little shits so they can realize how crappy they're being. I used to be similar to them (not quite as bad), but then at some point, you hear someone else talk like you do, and you think, "Man, I suck. I'm going to stop being a shitty 12-year old." Just ignore them, and they soon realize their place. It's just part of growing up nowadays. (I have no idea what it was like before).

Although I know that for the most part, these teenagers are in a stage of their life that makes them intolerable, I still think their douchebags and can't stand them.
As for personal experiences, I've got very little. On the other hand I have more stories about human stupidity than i can count.

Though I do not disagree with your general statement, the behavior of the mother leads me to believe THIS one kid will most likely never learn. Buying him "whatever shuts him up" not caring for content or the rating ... not a good path to walk down, especially when your child is already showing this kind of behavior.

It's a tough balance though. I played M-rated games when I was 12. My best friend grew up playing Turok 64 (rated M) and I wouldn't say either of our parents are bad at parenting. I don't think it's exactly the rating of the content, as much as it's the moderation of how much content you buy them and how much you let them consume that content. At some point, parents have to stop buying so many things for their kids and let them do jobs if they want money. The value of money is far more important in my opinion than the censoring of entertainment.

Also, I agree that some kids don't learn as quickly as others, but eventually everyone figures out that acting like a 12-year old is for 12-year olds.

Exactly. Also, Turok was my first M rated game and I turned out just fine. Also..green blood mode.

Kids like that are the shit of the planet and should be sterilized to prevent from polluting the gene pool any more.

I've never quite experienced the foul mouthness at the retail store I work at, but I get those parents all of the time.  It's always disheartening to tell a parent that a game is rated M and that it's pretty graphic and they proceed to tell me that their 5 year old has already played GTA IV/Gears/Modern Warefare and they don't really care.  I mean, I'm a pretty liberal person, but I would not let a 5 year old play GTA or Gears.

I do see a lot of super immature adults dismiss games in the same manner though, just a lot more politely (and kind of more frustratingly!).  "You liked Bioshock?  It doesn't have multiplayer!" "Super Mario Galaxy?  That's a little kid's game... Cabellas?!  That looks awesome!"

Worse parenting - take your 9 year old kid to an hard R rated movie (even better when its only one parent with the kid - divorced or stuck with the kid for the weekend, lets go watch a brutal movie rather than actually bond).

Personal experience I'm guessing.

Was the movie Watchmen or Kick-Ass? Cause those movies are about super heroes and couldn't possibly be for adults.

@Cramsy: This is sort of related to your story, one time I was at a high school sporting event and there were kids there exactly like what you described, like 10 year old punks with really foul mouths. Time passed and I hadn't seen then for awhile and when I left they were being handcuffed by cops, apparently they tried to steal a purse or something. Moral of the story people get what they deserve and eventually these kids will too.

I think it was Kick-Ass, and the best part was that the kid was bored and just walked around the aisles.

It's too bad child services doesn't let you beat your kids anymore. Man, I remember being afraid of my father if I did something wrong, and it worked, I came out alright. I can't even say "shut up" around my parents, I have way too much respect for them. I don't know what the hell is going on with the new generation man, I'm only 25 and I feel extremely old every time I come across a kid like that.
