"Wow...From what I heard on the 1UP Show (not sure if Nick was in it) I expected something closer to a B than an A- ...I wish 1UP would do more video reviews."
Nick always seems to review a bit higher than the average at 1Up it seems. At least of in terms of scores. I like his style though since he tends to focus more on the game as a whole than obsessing over the tech stuff like a consumer report.
This is going to be one of those Assassin's Creed games for me. Where, unless the demo wasn't something to judge it by, I love or like it, and all the enthusiast press critics are wheezing and mouth breathing about how much they hate it.
Its a "Known Issue". All over the Official Gears Forums on Epic's website. For me it takes anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes to put a match together. For others it is seconds, and some people get no love at all. The current thesis seems to be that Epic's matchmaking servers are overloaded. The only thing you can do right now is wait. Oh, and, of course, make sure you have an Open NAT.
"Enough copies of the game had gotten out there that playing multiplayer online prior to release wasn't a problem at all.
I haven't run into any issues with the matchmaking system. Sounds like most of the people complaining about it don't understand how it works or want to be able to play ranked games against their friends, which sort of defeats the purpose of having ranked games.
"
Interesting. The main problem I keep running into is just the amount of time it takes to get into a game -- shortest being 5 minutes and the longest being 20 minutes, and a couple times I've just sat their for thirty minutes waiting. There's quite a few people with the same complaint on the Official Gears 2 forum, and a small minority that aren't having any problems at all. Maybe the matchmaking servers are just getting slammed.
