Games played in 2014

This is a list of games I've in 2014, when I played them, and what I thought at the time. Mostly so I remember what I've played! Thought it might be an interesting experiment. This is essentially a big blog that I'll update after playing a game.

KEEP IN MIND THAT THESE COMMENTS ARE UNEDITED AND FULL OF TYPOS/SPELLING ERRORS. They were meant mainly a quick summery for my future self.

A bit on the formatting:

Date. Time of day. Platform.

Description of session.

The Date will specify whether I started, played, or finished a game.

The Time of Day is a general time when I played the game. I use describers such as "Early Morning" (Midnight to 6am), "Morning"(6am to about 10am), "Late Morning"(10am to noon), "Afternoon"(noon to 6pm), "Evening"(6pm to 10pm), and "Late Evening"(10pm to midnight.)

Platform is what system/console I played the game on. I'm guessing nearly all games will be on PC.

The Description of the session will vary. Sometimes it'll be my thoughts on the game, a literal description of what I did, a description of why I'm playing that particular game, what I'm doing before/during the session (listening to a podcast, etc) , and will most likely be a combination. These descriptions may include spoilers, especially when I get farther into a game. I ask if you do comment about something spoiler-ish I mentioned then please use spoiler tags.

At the end of the year I'm going to compile the data and create some nifty charts. Again mostly from my own curiosity, but maybe it might prove interesting to others.

List items

  • Started on New Years Eve into New Years. PC.

    Encountered some odd bugs where frozen character models would spawn in the house. I could clip through them and they didn't prevent me from moving on, so they mainly just made me laugh. Still found the rest of the game to be pretty much alright.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Mar 17th over Midnight to Mar 18th.
    I really enjoyed this chapter. Some bits were fairly obvious and I'm not too kine on the new characters yet, but it was still pretty great. I encountered a lot less bugs than the first chapter.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Aug 30th. Early Morning.

    I wanted to play this now that all the episode are out but when I booted up the game my save files from the other two episodes was gone. I played a bit through the first episode again and decided to stop one I got to the shed. It's annoying, but I'll probably play through both other episodes today. I wanted to completed today, but I don't know if I will.

    ~~~~~~~~~~
  • Started on Jan 3rd. Early Morning. PC.
    Enjoyed what I played. May come back to it.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Jan 8th. Early Morning.

    Got further. Many of the levels are fairly cleverly designed, but some seem to have rather odd solutions. I'm not sure if I got through them the way they were intended. Also the game doesn't have Menu Wrap which is bullshit. How can you make a game today that doesn't have Menu Wrap?

    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Feb 4th. Morning.
    After playing through the Candy Jam Escape Goat game I decided to go back to this one. Got to the point where I cannot figure out any of the three levels that are available to me. Any solutions seem way to tricky to be the actual solutions. Still enjoy the game though. Don't know if I'll come back to it.
  • Played on Jan 3rd. Evening. PC.
    I wanted to check up on episodes of James Urbaniak's Fake Podcast show and figured this was the perfect game for the job.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~

  • Started on Jan 5th. Early Morning. PC.

    Found the gamepad camera controls to be overly sensitive. Perhaps its my controller. I use a PS2 to 360 converter for my PC gamepad. I liked the art and music of the game. The gameplay was alright. I might come back to it.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Jan 8th. Early Morning.
    Played some more this. Liked the story set up and acting (aside from little girl character.) Found the platforming to not be precise enough to really be enjoyable. Probably won't play anymore of it. A shame.
  • Played on Jan 6th to Jan 7th. Evening into Early Morning. PC.
    My internet was acting up while I was trying to watch Awesome Games Done Quick so I decided to play this game and basically savescum through it until my internet stabilized. I kind of lost myself in it and played it for many hours. Eventually I got to the part I always die at and died. So I looked up a guide (by now the internet was fine), and played through it to completion. It wasn't as fun as trying to do it blind, but I still enjoy this game a lot and will probably play through it more.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Jan 14th. Early Morning.

    Decided to try again at getting through the game. Accidentally misread which mood gives a bonus to Royal Demeanor and messed up my whole run. Stopped after the ball. Might go back and reload one of my older saves to fix it.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~
  • Played on Jan 8th. Morning. PC.
    Again my internet was barely functional. Apparently Comcast is the only option here in Seattle and it's been awful. So I decided to play something I must have bought on some sale. Perfection is alright. It didn't hold my attention for longer than 10 minutes though. Probably won't play anymore of it. Nice music and sound design though.
  • Played on Jan 10th. Early Morning. PC.
    Once again my internet wasn't working well and I decided to play something. I've played a lot of BoI, but am not very good at it. Had a couple runs while listening to Sketches of Spain by Miles Davis.
    ~~~~~~~~

    Played on Mar 11th. Evening.

    Patrick's series got me interested in this game again. I'm still not very good at it.

    ~~~~~~~~
    Played on Mar 13th. Evening.
    Tried to do challenge 6 and failed.
    ~~~~~~~~

    Played on Mar 14th. Early Morning.

    Beat Challenge 6 by exploiting the bug with the black pony item where you can make yourself invincible by using the item then using the mouse to shoot.

    Tried to play the First Challenge and got to Mom, but accidentally used all my items before her and lost.

    ~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Mar 14th. Evening.
    Tried Challenge 7 and died at Mom.
    A bit later I tried Challenge 1 and failed.
    ~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Mar 15th. Late Evening.

    Tried Challenge 7 and failed.

  • Played on Jan 12th. Early Morning. PC.

    Gunpoint was #3 on my GOTY list for 2013. I decided in December that I wanted to do a Let's Play for it and found some time to record it on this day.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Jan 13th. Evening.
    Recorded some more for my LP. I want to record the whole game before editing the footage/recording commentary. I am about half way through now I think. I've been having too much fun replaying missions to do things differently. Discovered something new! I didn't know you could crush a guard under a vault door. It's actually pretty gruesome.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Jan 23rd. Evening.

    Recorded more for my LP. Finished the game, however I thought I could go back and make the decision of who to side with differently from the mission select menu to see the other dialogue options. You can't. So, to do the LP right, and show has much of the dialogue as I can I'll have to play through the whole game again to get that point. It'll be much quicker and I was planning to show off other ways missions can be done and how conversations can go differently.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • Played on Jan 13th. Morning. PC.
    Picked up this game as soon as it was available. Really enjoyed what I played of the single player. Don't quite understand all the subtlety yet. I wish the game had a more fleshed out How To Play. As of writing this all it seems to do is say "Move left to right to run" or something like that then exits. Not very helpful! The colors on the cloud stage were a bit much too. I found it hard to see where my character was.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Feb 16th. Evening.

    The Internet has be down for 24 hours. Fucking Comcast! Played more of the single player of Nidhogg. I got pretty far, but I don't know about the contorls. The game doesn't really communicate things very well.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Mar 29th. Evening.
    Went to a get-together of Seattle game dev folks. I wreck fools in this game. Though it was their first time playing.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Apr 4th. Evening.

    There was another meet up for Seattle developers/other folk. Played this game a lot and won maybe once.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on May 10th. Evening.
    Went to LoadingReadyRun Con and took 2nd at a tournament.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  • Started on Jan 14th. Late Morning. PC.

    Played this about 90 minutes of this. Got to Chapter 2. Spent a lot of time looking at the Kickstarter banners (I chose the crow with the eye in the center) and reading the lore on the world map.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Jan 15th. Early Morning.
    Now somewhere in Chapter 3. I wasn't expecting there to be so much story, but I really like the story so far. I wish the combat had an undo button though. I find myself occasionally moving to a tile by mistake.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Jan 15th. Morning.

    Further into Chapter 3. Made a choice at a village that was a minor regret. Caused one of my best fighters to leave my party. It's OK as he was replaced before the next battle, but now my team is mostly Varl and it has made my team a lot less maneuverable in battle.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Jan 16th. Early Morning.
    Got to Chapter 5 and stopped before clicking through any dialogue. That's quite the big snake. I'm starting to notice some faults of the game. The loading times tend to be a bit long (5~10+ seconds) and there are times when you're not doing much other than watching you guys march across the screen. Those are both pretty minor. I'm really liking the way the story is going. I'm not sure how much my choices are actually affecting it, but so far it has flowed pretty well. There's a bit of ludonarrative dissonance within my one party. The character Rook has a daughter who is sort of shy, passive, and non-aggressive. However in combat, she's my best fighter and often gets the majority of kills and has been the last one alive multiple times. Right now I have her equipped with an item that increases the amount of armor damage by 3 and she's just been wrecking fools' armor from behind my more beefy characters. It's kind of awesome. Her special ability is super strong too.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Jan 16th. Noon.

    Played more through Chapter 5 until I encountered a bug and had to close the game.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Jan 16th. Evening.
    Oh man. So much happened. I'm in Chapter 6 now and going on a long, mostly disastrous march south. There's been thieves, betrayals, character deaths, etc. It's been pretty intense. Rook's daughter has still proven to be the best character in battle. Funny thing, there was a cut scene where she killed someone and was trembling with shock, but she has the highest kill count of anyone in my party. Something like 28 or 30. Rook is the next highest with 24 or so. Other than that, I think the UI and usability could use so work. I would love to be able to upgrade and equip my characters right before a battle, or be able to jump to the character screen without having to set up camp. Despite those criticisms I'm really enjoying this game.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Jan 17th. Afternoon.

    Now in Chapter 7. Was having a real hard time keeping my band alive and feed, but a fortunate point in the story saved me. Got up to a boss. Perhaps the final boss. It feels like things are coming to end, but there's still a lot left to uncover. Sufficed to say the boss wrecked me pretty thoroughly. Some of my best guys were unavailable due to injury. Ah well I'll give another crack at it later.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Finished on Jan 21th. Evening.
    I didn't play anything all weekend because I was doing work on a couple of game projects. One is this game called "Witchmarsh." The other is this dumb little game I'll doing for fun. Anyway. so I was literally at the final battle last time I played. Aletta (Rook's daughter) died in my ending. I don't know if there's a to have her shoot the arrow and survive or if there are different endings, but ah well. I really enjoyed this game and will probably play through it again some time. It's clear they want to do a squeal or expansion or something and that's fine with me. The world and characters are interesting and unique. I want to know more about them. I certainly agree with people that this is an early GotY container and hopefully it won't be forgotten.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~

  • Started on Jan 21st. Evening. PC.

    I waited to start this game until The Banner Saga was completed. I picked Shay's story and played until just after meeting Marek. Enjoying it so far. I really love all the dialogue there is for item combinations. It's really scratching an itch I didn't know I had. I may go and replay the Longest Journey after completing Broken Age. I supported the kickstarter solely because I thought it was a novel idea at the time. I didn't expect much from it and hadn't really played a Doublefine game (other than Costume Quest at the time) or even a Lucas Arts adventure game (I did play a lot of point'n'clicks in the 90's but mainly stuff like Black Dahlia and Tex Avery. Stuff my dad and aunt played.)

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Jan 22nd. Morning.
    Completed Shay's story. Enjoyed it. I like the cliff hanger. Wish they didn't use that same damn explosion sound effect that's in everything.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Jan 23rd~24th. Across Midnight.

    Started the gal's story. Pretty sure I'm almost done with it too, just missing an item. Still disappointed in the occasional obvious stock sound effect.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Jan 25th. Late Evening~Across Midnight.
    Got up to Mog Chothra. I was really enjoying Vella's chapter up to that point. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what to do against it. I tried shooting it in a bunch of different places to no avail. So I closed the game and reopened, tried again and this time I could shoot off Mog Chothra's tentacles. Sat back and enjoyed the ending. I like the way they merge the two stories and I'm very glad that I played through Shay's story first.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  • Started on Jan 25th. Afternoon. PC.

    I bought this game during the Unprofessional Friday stream. I would have got it sooner but I didn't realize it was out on Steam yet. From what I've played so far I'm enjoying, but there are some oddities about it. The mouse sensitivity seems really high and the music doesn't loop perfectly. I'm playing the game on Hard and finding it to be pretty decent in terms of difficulty. Just got to the town.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Jan 25th. Evening.
    Inventory management! This game is pretty awesome. The battle system has some interesting depth. Playing it on Hard my have been a mistake though. Revival items seem pretty damn rare and really expensive. Haven't gone to far into the the second block, but instead went through an optional dungeon.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Jan 26th. Early Morning.

    Went through another floor. This game is really scratching an RPG itch. Gotta make these numbers go up!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Jan 26th to 27th. Over Midnight.
    I was having an pretty easy time going through block 2 then got up to the boss. I was clever enough to return to the town, rest, buy items, and upgrade before attempting the boss but still lost to him. This game is giving me a real SMT vibe to it. Which is great! But maybe I should just finish SMT IV.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Jan 27th. Early Morning.

    Did a bit of enemy hunting in the optional areas and after a rather tough battle I ended up beating the boss to level 2.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Jan 27th. Afternoon/Evening.
    Added the Ghost to my party. Seems pretty over powered.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Jan 28th. Early Morning.

    Alright, Hard is starting to feel hard. I really have to be aware of all my character's abilities. I'm loving this.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Feb 1st to 2nd. Over Midnight.
    Tried going through the 3rd floor of the optional dungeon before taking on the 3rd block boss. Got killed by a group of tough enemies. Once they killed my healer I had no way to revive her.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Feb 3rd. Early Morning.

    Finished Block 3 and went through the optional dungeon 4th floor. Now I have the Abomination in my party and it's pretty useful. Though I'm still figuring out how to use it well. The ghost seem to have lost it's usefulness now that there are so many magic using enemies.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Feb 4th. Early Morning.
    Got up to some sort of dragon monkey boss thing and it quite easily pounded me into a ground.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Nov 20th. Evening.

    Started a new game on my laptop. Didn't play much. Only about 20 minutes. Might play more latter.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • Played on Jan 28th. Early Morning. PC.
    I just had a hankering to play some sort of city sim while listening to some podcast and 2013's SimCity is the only one I have installed. I only played for about an 30 minutes before going to bed.
  • Oh where do I begin wit this game? It's probably the most formative gaming experience I had growing up. I first played it after getting it for Christmas in 1999, but don't remember playing much of it until summer on my Grandma's first computer (really it was pretty much my first computer.) She passed away on Monday and I donno, I wanted something to remind me of my time with her in her prime. The computer was in an upstairs balcony of the living room in her house. She would often be downstairs watching TV while I'd be upstairs playing games, downloading songs on Napster, or starting to mess around with music making programs or RPG Maker. Though she wasn't really sharing my experiences it always felt good to know she was right downstairs. We were doing things separately but still together. I guess. I donno. It just nostalgia.
    This game help reinforce and develop a lot of ideals and philosophies in my life. I try to replay every 5 to 7 years at least once through. I enjoy the second one as well and am excited for the 3rd that's currently in development, but I don't think any other game could hold the place in my heart that TLJ has.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Started on Jan 30th. Early Morning. PC.

    I only played through the prologue at the start.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Feb 2nd. Early Morning.
    I can't express how much going back through this game is. Everything is just so vibrantly connected to a very specific time in my life. It's been fascinating to rediscover the characters after growing up and experiencing similar things that these characters have experienced.
  • Played on Feb 11th. Morning. PC.
    I recently got a PS4 controller to replace my PS2 controller which I use on the PC. Decided to test it out by playing some original Metroid on an emulator. The controller feels great but for some reason the game was super laggy. Maybe my memory of it is just poor and that's how the game always ran.
  • Played on Feb 11th. Late Morning. PC.
    Again I was just testing out using a PS4 controller on the PC, but ended up playing this game for about an hour. It feels really good with a PS4 controller.
    ~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Feb 11th. Noon.

    Decided to play more since I was enjoying it.

    ~~~~~~~~~
    Played Feb 16th. Evening.
    I got up to a part that I remember detesting when I first played the game. Decided to stop there.
  • Started on Feb 16th. Evening. PC.
    My internet was out and I wanted something to play while I waited for it to come back on. I didn't get to far into this, but enjoyed what I played. I wasn't so impressed by it as some folks though.
  • Started on Feb 18th. Evening. PC.
    After enjoying but being disappoint by last year's Sim City and most of the other city builders I've checked out, I was excited when I first read about Banished. I played it while listening to the Bombcast and really enjoyed it. I started a town on easy and found it to be a little too easy, but I'll probably end up playing so much more of this.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Feb 18th. Late Evening.

    Maybe it wasn't so easy. My town grow too fast and it a long slow decent as everyone began to starve to death. Ah well. New town!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Feb 19th. Early Morning.
    New Town. I tired not to expand to quickly and ended up with a town full of old people! I have a crazy abundance of food and supplies, but my town can't grow well and folks are starting to die off. It's pretty interesting!
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Feb 19th. Late Evening.

    So my town of old people eventually gave got enough children that it normalized. However I had the issue of expanding too much again and now it's starving. My population is around 100 people and it seems like you need a lot of farms to support that many.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Feb 20th. Early Morning.
    Read up some strategies online, started a new town, and the entire town was dead within 5 years. Welp...
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Feb 22nd. Evening.

    Started another new town. This time on medium on a large map. So far it's going really well. The only problem I'm having is with maintaining logs.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Feb 22nd. Evening.
    I've been wanting to start streaming and decided that this game was be good to fiddle with settings. Streamed about a hour and got no one to show up and give me feedback. On retrospect it's probably not a very interesting game to watch a stream of, but ah well.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Feb 22nd. Late Evening.

    This town is being super successful and this game is really stratifying. The only real problem I've had this session was that my teacher died from old age and I suddenly had 15 laborers without much to do other than work in the mines.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Feb 23rd. Late Evening.
    My town is continuing to do well. Things got a bit stagnant this session. Had a slight decline in population, but I think things are recovering. I now have a source of both wool and leather, and can make steel tools, and people aren't starving.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Feb 25th. Evening to Late Evening.

    Played while listening to the Bombcast. My town is surviving. I have a crazy over abundance of food. What I'm lack now is people, stone, and firewood. It's a bit unfortunate since I don't have enough people to quarry the stone I need and I don't have enough firewood to support the amount of people I have. I have a town hall but have never had nomads appear.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Feb 26th. Early Morning.
    Oh boy. Once again I expanded too quickly and started to starve my population a bit. However I'm slowly bouncing back. I've had a couple of nomad groups want to join my town, but turned a big group of 23 away. My biggest issues right now are mining, logs, and firewood. Food will occasionally dip down below 1000, but it's manageable.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Mar 1st. Early Morning.

    Accepted a bunch of Nomads into my village and now there was an outbreak of Typhoid. Welp...

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Mar 6th. Evening.
    Started a new town focused on making a petty town. I had a field suffer an infestation and now am now about to have a massive starvation, but at least the town's layout is pretty!
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Mar 8th. Late Morning to Afternoon.

    Started another town using the same seed as last time. This one is doing so much better, but the layout isn't as pretty. I stopped for a while after a tornado had touched down.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Mar 8th. Late Evening.
    The tornado didn't destroy anything important. Also my town has a massive bridge that goes nowhere. Right now it needs more young people, but everything else is doing fine.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Mar 13th. Late Evening.

    My folks are taking forever to build things when I set them to build, and all my old folks are dying. I think I may have queued up too many commands.

  • Played on Feb 22nd. Evening. PC.

    My second attempt at streaming something. I fucking love Uniracers. It feels amazing playing it with a PS4 controller too. The stream went ok. It was mostly just to test things out. If you're interested you can watch the archive here: http://youtu.be/LnXlwfVYjIs

    I'll probably end up streaming more of it.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • Played on Mar 4th. Evening. PC.
    I played around with the browser version a couple times before this, but didn't think to put it on this list. I'm not very good at threes, but I play it pretty mindlessly.
  • Played on Mar 5th. Evening. PC.
    There's something about these sorts of games that I just can't get into. I liked what I played of Path of Exile a while ago so I figured I'd give this game a shot. I didn't get passed the tutorial before uninstalling it. I didn't like the tutorial guy's voice or the writing, and the tutorial seemed to drag on way too long. But most importantly I didn't enjoy the game play. Lack of direct control really hurts this genre. Moving and attacking is awkward and unintuitive. I always find myself missclicking and running up to guys or attacking instead of moving.
  • Played on Mar 13th Late Evening to Mar 14th Early Morning. PC.
    Apparently there was a big update to this game. The progress is wonky and it just takes too long to get anything interesting, but maybe one day this game will be really cool.
  • Started on Mar 19th. Early Morning. PC.
    For about 3 weeks I've been working on a Zelda-like game in Game Maker. It's been going alright, but I decided to play the original inspiration to see what sort of design choices I could nick. From just playing up to the first dungeon there is already a lot of stuff I could see adding to my game.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on May 10th. Afternoon. NES.

    Folks at LRR Con had a NES set up and I embarrassed myself by not being able to get through the 2nd dungeon.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~
  • Started on Mar 19th. Morning. PC.
    After watching Vinny play though some of the original Castlevania I had to play one that I remember enjoying. So far I'm having the normal issues I have with Castlevania games. IE their level design tends to just be long corridors with enemies plonked down, and there is weird animation priority. But I'm generally enjoying it.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Mar 20th. Evening.

    I was playing while watching the GDC live stream. I like this game and enjoy playing it, but the random drops of the enemy souls is bizarre. Makes the game too grindy if you want to collect them all.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Apr 15th. Early Morning.
    Played a bit more while listening to a podcast.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  • This is the first game on this list that I didn't play on a PC. I have a love/hate relationship with the FF series. Especially X. When it first came out I played it for 8 hours straight the first night. I was in love with it until I got to the ending. One of my biggest disappointments. Many years later (around 2005) I played through it again and then X-2. X-2 quickly became one of my favorites but we'll get to that later.

    Started on Mar 21st. Late Evening. PS3.

    I started with X. I played it up to were you part ways with Rikku. I really like the intro and set up to this game. Even if the whole "man gets sucked into a strange world" is pretty commonplace I think this game does it well. It's a much better introduction than 13's, by setting up who Tidus is, what his situation is, and it introduces more mechanics other than just basic attack.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Mar 22nd. Evening.
    I remembered a lot of this game. It's interesting how the new graphics basically look how I remember the game. The world and set up with Sin is something I still find pretty neat. The acting however is hilariously awful at times. Especially with Tidus and Yuna.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Mar 23. Evening.

    The acting continues to be bad, but I'm starting to get into the meat of the game. The tutorials are actually pretty good. They don't in a way that doesn't break narrative and isn't intrusive. I wish I could say the same of the menus however. The menu design is lacking. For example, equipment has effects but doesn't tell you what those effects do exactly. Many of them are obvious (like +10& HP) but stuff like "sensor" could use a short sentence description. This lack of explanation is carried over to the skills. I'm using the Expert Sphere grid and I had the opportunity to learn a skilled called "Extract Ability" but there's no explanation as to what it does outside of battle. That's a bit late. Another thing about the menu design is that you have to back out of each submenu instead of using the triggers to switch between them. Overall the menu lacks real useability and redundancy. I know the original came out in 2001 before a lot of these innovations, but this is a HD version. Surely they could have added a bit more. Especially considering you can spend a lot of time in the menus.

    Anyway I'm really liking the Expert Sphere gird. Basically it changes the layout and flow of the original skill gird and makes the characters much more customizable. I can already see there are going to be some tough choices down the road.

    In this session I missed out on starting a sidequest with the one shop keeper guy and I may reload a save and go back to that. I didn't play too far after the first ship bit so not much will be lost.

    Played on Mar 24th Late Evening to Mar 25th Early Morning.

    The acting is pretty hit or miss. Sometimes it's totally serviceable, other times it's laughably bad. ("I like the wind" *bursts into nervous laughter*) However the game does a decent job with characterization early on.

    Due to the expect sphere grid lay out I couldn't help but enemy hunt for awhile to get Yuna the four basic black magics. Fortunately the combat system has a bit more to it than just spam attack which makes it enjoyable. Switching out party members really makes the combat feel dynamic even to this day. I just fought a boss (Sinspawn Geneaux) and really enjoyed how the battle seemed to have dynamic phases. In the first phase I had to use my physical attacks (Tidus, Wakka, Kimahri) to take out things that would absorb magic then switch to my magic casters (Yuna, Lulu, Kimahri) to deal the second phase.

    Blitzball! I remember enjoying blitzball when I had previously played the game. However how they introduced it is bizarre. They give you a lengthy tutorial then a completely unrelated bit for some (actually decent) character development, then are thrown into a seemingly unwinnable game. Seems to me that it could have been handled better.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Mar 26th. Early Morning.
    Finished up the Mi'ihen Highroad. The game does well to put a lot of content into a few screens. The game introduces the historian character which I really like for some reason. I think it's a nice way to explain the lore.
    I've been spending too much time trying to figure out how I'm going to build my characters. Fortunately levels aren't too uncommon and I like that there have been actual choices with the alternate sphere grid.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Mar 27th. Early Morning.

    Started Mushroom Rock Road. Early on there's a conversation with Seymour where he says something and Wakka replies with "Should a Maester really say that?" to which Seymour replies "Then pretend I didn't say it." I kind of love that line. He's not the most interesting of villains, but he does have a certain color to his personality that is likable.

    I spent most of this session enemy hunting to get Lulu the 2nd tier black magics. The battle system is pretty well designed so that grinding/battles is at least usually interesting. You can pretty easily plow through enemies, but that's not going to really make your character's any stronger. You have to approach them in a way that's a bit more tactical. Even if that boils down to just switching in the characters that best work for the current enemy group. Still you have to make sure every character does something in a battle so they gain AP, and I appreciate that.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Mar 28th. Early Morning.
    Finished up my grinding and continued onward. I find my default party tends to be Lulu, Kimahri, and Auron. It's just the most well rounded party. Kimahri can do just about everything Tidus can but is now getting some Rikku abilities, and he can use magic. Auron is just physical damage, and Lulu can pretty much overkill any enemy with her tier 2 spells.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Mar 31st. Afternoon.

    Finished up to Djose Temple. I like the temple puzzles, but pushing the pillars is super finicky. Running up to them doesn't also seem to register that you want to push it and makes dealing with the puzzles a bit more annoying than it should be. Djose Temple is a pretty lackluster puzzle though.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Apr 2nd. Afternoon.
    Got up to Guadosalam. I wish they started Rikku with some levels.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Apr 3rd. Late Evening.

    Spent time on the Thunderplains. Fuck dodging lightning. The timing is too tight. I feel like I have to press the button before the flash even occurs. Though I've never had great timing.

    Played on Apr 5th. Late Evening.

    Poked around a bit more in the Thunderplains got tired and decided to head to bed.

  • Played on Mar 29th. Evening. PC.

    Went to a get-together of Seattle game dev folks. Played against mostly first timers and did well. I fear Shoals may be my best character.

    NOTE: I had played this at least twice at some point in the last 6 months with my one room mate but forgot to log it.

    Went to a get-together of Seattle game dev folks and played Towerfall for the first time. I'm awful at it and don't enjoy the base game as much as Samurai Gunn but some of those powerups are super fun! I'll play more of it for sure.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on May 10th. Afternoon. PS4.
    Played with strangers at LRRCON. Only played a couple matches and didn't do very well. I like the game more when free aim is on.
    Went to another Seattle game dev meet up and played some Towerfall. I did horrible at it then suddenly became pretty decent. I don't understand how or why.
  • Started on Mar 31st. Evening. PC.
    I have yet to complete the first one because it got to difficult, but I was looking for something to play and decided to boot this up. It plays pretty much exactly like the first game. I'm not far enough to see any of the new mechanics but I've enjoyed what I've played. I can already tell it's going to get really difficult in the later levels.
    ~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Mar 31st. Late Evening.

    Completed the area where the Tiny Hammer powerup is introduced. This game has some seriously awesome reveals and great level design. My only fear is that the levels will become too difficult like the first game.

    ~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Apr 1st. Morning.
    I was right. The levels do get really tough. Right now I have most of them unlocked and I haven't encountered one that I couldn't solve, but some of them have been really tricky.
    ~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Apr 1st. Late Morning.

    The level design in this game is hit or miss, but it hits more than it misses. I did encounter a level that I couldn't figure out. The second one with the bone snake. I was able to go to other stages at least and played through them until I got stuck on another stage. That stage is in the purple area and has a skull switch before some moving blocks you have to go through the moving blocks but aren't quick enough without getting crushed. I don't know if it's my execution or if that's not how you solve the level. After typing that I had an idea and it worked well enough. When through the orange stages and got stuck at the last one.

    ~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Apr 1st. Afternoon.
    I beat it. Though there are a couple more levels left. I saved all 16 sheep and unlocked the other exit outside the last room. I dipped into the next tier of levels and the first one seemed to require really tight timing which is something I just don't have. I enjoyed the game. I wish they used the cape power up more though. It was my favorite.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Apr 1st. Evening.

    Tired some of the advanced levels again. I was able to complete the first one but could not figure out that second one at all.

    ~~~~~~~~~~
  • Played on Apr 4th. Evening. PC.
    This is was the 2nd time I played it. It was an event where the dev had it. I believe the build was the PAX East build. The game has come a long way from the prototype I first played. It's super rad and I really like the direction she is taking it in.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Aug 21st. Afternoon.

    So this game is now on Steam's Early Access program. As a kickstarter backer I got it a day earlier. It certain has come a long way. I think the bloom effects are maybe a bit over down, but I've liked what I've played so far.

    One of the many games I forgot I bought at some point in the last couple of years. This game is dumb and it doesn't control well with a gamepad, but it's pretty.

  • Fugitive - http://www.socksmakepeoplesexy.net/farawaytimes/

    Started on Apr 11th. Evening. PC.

    This is a retro platformer released in 2013. It was pretty cool. Great music and sound design. The level design is a bit of a pain in the ass. It takes ideas that were common in old games (like blind jumps with instant-death traps below) and uses them quite frequently. The game feels old because of this. However it wouldn't be so bad if there were better checkpoint placement. Sometimes checkpoints are placed in spots that require the player to jump up a couple of screens instead of spawning the player more towards where they died. Respawning takes a bit too long too. Especially considering how fast you can die. This game loves it's spikes.

    I do, however, love that instead of getting stronger as you get through the game you get weaker. That's a pretty nifty little mechanic. Though it doesn't really make much use of the fully powered character.

    I may play more of this later.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Jacob's ladder - http://www.jacobsladdergame.com/
    Played Sept 1st. Afternoon. iPad.
    I played it at SIX. It's sort of like Lemmings and was pretty cool. Unfortunately it can only be on iPad due to the way it was programmed or something. I don't quite remember the dev's explanation. I'd play more of it but I don't have an iPad.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Swarmageddon -

    Played Sept 1st. Afternoon. PC.

    Played at SIX. This is a game done by some friends of mine. It's like a reverse TD game and has come a long way. I asked a lot of people what their favorite game of the show was and they said this game. So that's pretty cool.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Viking Squad -
    Played Sept 1st. Afternoon. PC?
    Played at SIX. this was a very early in development it seemed. It's an interesting Viking themed brawler that I could see getting into if I had more people to play games like this with locally.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Skyling -

    Played Sept 1st. Late Morning. PC.

    Played at SIX. So this game is sort of a mix between Qbert and Pacman. It's pretty cool but I'm terrible at it. The developer built a little arcade cab for it which was really freaking cool.

    This is a rad little momentum-based puzzle game. It's pretty damn tricky though.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Apr 12th. Afternoon.
    Tried my hand at making some levels. Made a 3 level forest themed pack. They're probably pretty easy compared to the built in levels, but I had a lot of fun making them. The only thing I don't like about the editor is that the ball that determines the camera can be a bit fiddly.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Apr 15th. Early Morning.

    Was feeling very frustrated and kind of sick. Made 3 more levels and tried to get 142 points on The Tree. My new levels are pretty cool, but I failed at beating The Tree.

    Just went through the levels again. I didn't see anyone post any newly made levels.

    I was able to get into the alpha of this game. There's not that many people playing at the moment. Mostly just developers who are really good. The game is basically like playing two games of OMD at once. It's a lot of fun. Right now the bots are too strong now... so strong.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Apr 20th. Evening.
    The community isn't there yet and it's difficult to get into a game regularly, but when you do it's pretty fun. But I after one game everyone seems to disappear or go into a different match then you could be stuck waiting forever. That'll change as more people get in though.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Apr 21st. Evening.

    Played a couple of really close games. Really liked playing as Gnoll guy and Big barbarian guy.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Apr 22nd. Afternoon.
    Messed around with some Heroes I hadn't played before versus some bots.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Apr 22nd. Evening.

    Played one game as Temper the minotaur and did terrible with him. He's really squishy and I couldn't figure out how to use him well. Then played a game as Hogarth and had a lot of fun. He is way more tanky and hard to kill. He has a great pounce attack that stuns guys. He's probably the most fun I've had with this game.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Apr 23rd. Evening.
    Had two really great games playing as Blackpaw. He's probably my favorite to play now. The second match came really close. We were winning but the other team had a good push and was able to pull out the victory. It's great being in the alpha because we all get to chat up the devs. Especially after the match.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Apr 26th. Evening.

    Played 3 games tonight. The first one was with a lot of new folks and we were crushed. I could have played better though. Had one really close game as Smolder. The devs just added a new test deck that had the Ice Amulet one it and I fell in love with it. It doesn't freeze guys like it did in the other game, but it just would rip through groups of enemies. The match came so close. It ended with a 0-2. Then I had another game where I played the Warmage and we just wrecked the other team with so many bears.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Apr 28th. Evening.
    Played as Bloodspike for the first time and he was a lot of fun. I'm surprised I'm enjoying the melee characters so much since I never used the melee weapons from the previous games.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Apr 29. Evening.

    There was a new patch today and I popped on to play a quick game to check it out. They made it so the earlier waves were a bit tougher and I honestly didn't notice that much of a difference.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on May 1st. Evening.
    They released a new map for testing. It's a three lane gigantic map and is totally broken in some areas, but still a lot of fun. I played three games on it.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on May 13th. Evening.

    They patched in a deck builder finally and I was messing around with that in game for the first time. Had a couple of games. There was a lot of new folks who didn't quite know how to play just yet. There was one guy who was only playing for about a week or so and was very cross with the new players. It was pretty hilarious how much of a bitch that guy was.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on May 14th. Evening.
    Played a couple games with the new patch. Really like the lightning ring and ice amulet.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on May 15th. Evening.

    Played two matches on the community stream as Blackpaw and didn't do so hot either time. Messed up my deck and forgot to put a ranged attack in it.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on May 16th. Evening.
    Oh man. Had some really awesome games tonight. The last one came so close. The hot thing right now is Glory Seekers, an auto ballista that aims for players. Places a couple of these down really deters pushing at the cost of having traps that hurt minions. Really cool concept, but a bit over powered right now.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on May 22nd. Evening.

    Had a big problem with my mic not working and only got a few games in once I got it working. They toned down Glory Seekers now, but they're still pretty good.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The devs were holding an event tonight for Alpha players versus the Best of the devs. I played them in two matches and lost both. Then played two match maker games are lost both of them. Boo. I think I'm really like playing as Smolder now though. She's a lot fun.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Jun 5th. Afternoon.

    They released a new patch that began testing the leveling and f2p stuff. We all started at level 1 and start with basically nothing. But once you gain a few levels it opened up pretty quickly and they added a bunch of new cards.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Jun 6th. Morning.
    Played a co-op match just to grind for levels a bit. Level 7 now. I've been experimenting with taking out my opponent's back doors first and it's been working fairly well against both AI and player teams.
    Played on Jun 6th. Evening.
    My back-door attacking strategy doesn't really work against players who know what's up. Ah well. It's still nifty.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Jun 7th. Afternoon to Evening.

    Lots of new players on today. I was able to get a few games late at night which is great. It's a bit annoying when the new guys make some many mistakes, but we had some good games regardless.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Jun 15th. Evening.
    Played a game against some of the best in the community. Phew.. those guys are really good and our team was super unorganized. It was brutal, but we were able to at least get a couple waves in so it wasn't a complete blow out.
    Last day of the Closed Alpha! Had couple of good games against the community team "Cake." Lost both, but they weren't full sweeps. Then we had a chance to test out the new version of the 3 lane map for a couple of hours and found a whole bunch of really amazing movement glitches.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Jun 27th. Evening to Late Evening.

    Start of the Closed Beta. Nothing much different about the game other than a bunch of new players and a revised 3 lane map. Had a bunch of fun with the fellow Alpha players on the Team Speak server.

    Got Bored of EVO and wanted to play some of this. I had a lot fun hanging out with the other players on TS. Had a couple good games that went on for too long, but more than once I encounter some fairly new players helping out other new players and it warmed my heart. I didn't see a single toxic player. Hopefully it'll remain this way.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Jul 13th. Evening.
    There will be a big patch on Tuesday where all account progress will be wiped, but there will be a bonus if you are at a certain level. So a lot of folks are trying to get to certain levels before then. I had a lot of really good games this session and a couple of bad ones. We really want to keep the OMDU community friendly and I've been taking down names of toxic players.
    Played more games, gained levels, had some fun. There was a new patch today that helped balance out some of the overpowered heroes a bit and things are better. While in team match we were up against the other group of folks from the TS and crushed them. Then we had a game were we played against mostly new people and they were doing really good but we came back and one of them instantly opened their gates and DC'd. Fucking lame.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Jul 26th. Evening.

    Had a bunch of need games. There's some regular in the TS who is kind of annoying and I wish he would leave. He's not very good at the game and talks about sort of nothing at times. We humor him, but still. It can be pretty grating. Anyway we had some good games and only really lost one.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Jul 30th. Evening.
    Had some games tonight with mostly random folks. Started to have that feeling of "we're losing because someone else is fucking up and not doing what they should be doing." I've been thinking a lot about where traps should be placed and the team should be spending their resources. Unfortunate I've haven't had the chance to play with some of the best players to test that stuff out like I wanted to tonight.
    Right now there's is a big problem with wave 2 and 3 being too strong for defenders to do much against. Particularly the Hunter Rush. This is where players put a bunch of level 2 Gnoll and Pride Hunter cards in to rush the defense with 15 player seeking minions. There has been a lot of discussion on how to fix this so it's not as effective.
    New patch today. Added a new hero called Tundra, which I didn't really like playing, and a bunch more traps and gear. It's pretty good, but I was feeling frustrated and annoyed the whole time for whatever reason.
    I've been having major computer issues and haven't be able to use my main computer. There was a new patch tonight that added a new character. So I installed it on my laptop. It runs fine with the settings turned down. Though it was very difficult to play without my desktop's mouse. I do like the new character. She's pretty cool.
    Playing OMDU made me really want to go back and play through the other two games. OMD1 is still a lot of fun, though there's this strange bug where the sprint button also switches my weapon. It's not major, but it is annoying.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Apr 24th. Early Morning.

    Fixed the bug I was having by using the roundabout way to rebind keys (you can't do that in the menu system). Continuing going through levels getting 5 Skulls with only using whats given to me at the time. IE not using future level abilities. Though I am using DLC items.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Apr 24th. Afternoon.
    I forgot how tricky some of levels can become. Archers are so powerful though. They can really chew waves of enemies and flyers.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Apr 25th. Evening.

    Got to a level that gave me a lot of trouble. I restarted each time one guy got through my defenses. It only happened twice. Wave 3 was always the culprit. Once I got passed that wave my killboxes were effective enough so that only ogres could get through if they had the help of hobgoblin shamans.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Apr 26th. Evening.
    At the final level. I remember the strategy that I used to get 5 skulls on it, but oh man... The sappers.. So many sappers. I'm going to have look up the spawn order of this level.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Apr 27th. Afternoon.

    Try getting 5 Skulls on the final level and came real close. Got a bit over run on the last wave since I didn't react quick enough.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on Apr 27th. Evening.
    I 5 skulled the final level. I tried doing the first level and did not do well. The strategy I remember doing I ended up not having the amount of coins to do. So I'm going to retry something.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played on Apr 28th. Early Morning.

    GRrrrAHH! I hate Double Take the first map of the DLC. It starts me with just below the amount of money I need and I can't generate enough to set up my kill boxes well enough to deal with the damn gnoll hunters. Bah! I'm so mad at this level.

    A couple hours later I tried again and was able to pull off my strategy with little issue and the level became super fun. Then I tried the 2nd DLC level and only got 3 skulls. There was a lot fire orges and I let a flyer or kobold through. The strat is solid though. I just need to do it better.

    Played on Apr 30th to May 1st. Crossing Midnight.

    I decided to do an LP of this over on Something Awful because I really enjoy their LP forum and there was no LP of this game in their achieve. I had a tough time getting this game to record right in OBS so I had to switch over to Fraps. That's something I didn't want to do because of the massive file sizes I ran into. This session I recorded the first 5 levels.

    Played on May 1st. Early Morning.

    I was listening to a podcast and figured I'd mess around with some ideas for 5 skulling some levels. before going to bed.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played on May 4th. Early Morning.
    Posted my LP on the SA forums the other day. It was met with mostly neutral critique. So that's good. There was some talk in it how I don't shoot for high scores. This is mainly cause I find the strategies sort of boring. I decided to watch some old videos people made explaining the scoring system a bit and tried out their strategies. While they were effective and used items in ways I never thought of, I don't see myself going back and getting the high score on every level. It's kind of boring using the exact same killbox on almost every stage.
    Had to re-record Stage 4 for my LP. Did a stand up job.
    A few hours later someone mentioned in the thread that they were surprised I used Shock Zappers at all. This gave me a great idea for a strat for The Balcony. I tried it out a couple times and was able to get 5 skulls using it. Can't wait to record it and show it to the folks in the thread.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    I had this really awesome strategy down for one level, but when recording the frame rate was all over the place and I did a pretty awful job. Ah well, that was the recording. Still got five skulls so who cares. Finished the first act for my LP.

    Recorded four more videos for my LP of this game. In one I discovered a use for the Ice Amulet's alt attack that never occurred to me before. It can take out complete groups of firebabies like they're nothing. It's pretty amazing for an attack that I thought was mostly useless.

    It seems I forgot to update this. Sometime in late June and early July I recorded more of my LP. Up the The Bridge.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Jul 12th. Late Evening.
    Today I posted my video for the Library to my thread. I hate this level. Shortly after someone wrote about a simple but amazingly effective way to complete it. I had to test to see if it worked and it worked almost too well.
    Recorded another level for my LP. Had some trouble in the practice of Hard Climb but had a decent time when recording.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Aug 9th. Morning.

    Record two videos for my LP. I had a pretty great run of the Squeeze, but Stairs of Doom gave me a lot trouble when practicing. I kept falling into the acid. It happened to me while recording as well so I restarted the level and had a great run. I'm going to leave the death in the LP video to illustrate how that particular jump is really tricky and can ruin a good run of that level.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Aug 25th. Early Morning.
    Recorded "Finale" for my LP. I did an amazing job on this level and realized that if I add ballista in my strategy then it would make it all that much easier. I seriously crushed it. The last wave was super anti-climatic and I'm sure a lot of people will yell at me for doing it that way, but whatever. Now there's just the 5 DLC levels to go and some alt takes of other levels.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Sept 24th. Evening.
    Tried again at the first level of the DLC. Fuck that level so much. I don't know why my strategy isn't working anymore. I really wish I wrote down what it was I did all those months ago.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Oct 4th. Early Morning.

    Tried something a bit different on Reverse Tower and it didn't quite pan out. I'm going go back too it and try the same loadout again but a bit different.

    Tried it again and did fine. Then recorded an alternative take on the Balcony which I had to do a few times because I kept making dumb mistakes.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Oct 9th. Afternoon.
    Recorded too more episodes of my LP. Did the Pit which I remember being much hard but turns out to be really easy, and did a glitched run of The Library.
    Got into the beta and played one level before going to bed. It seemed pretty cool. Hard to tell from just a level though. Not sure if I like the redesign of the towers/enemies, but the new boost platforms seem alright. Apparently there aren't going to be flying enemies, and the missile towers just work like the mortar towers from the first game I think. Not much in the beta at the moment.
    Started Sept 25th. Early Morning. PC.
    I put off the beta and other stuff because I wanted to go in most pure and I'm glad I did. Oh man, this game has been great so far. Only played up to stage 5 or 6. Was breezing through the early levels without much difficulty getting gold until the last level I played. I'm really enjoying it so far. I could see this game being on my GOTY list already.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Sept 25th. Afternoon.

    Got to a level that is really tough. Maybe it's not a good idea to try to get boost towers under every tower. Hrmmm.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Sept 25th. Evening.
    I was able to get passed that one mission, but I didn't get a medal on it. Boo.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Sept 26th. Evening to late Evening.

    Some of the levels are really easy when I'm getting gold no problem. Others I'm struggling to even get a medal. The difficulty curve is pretty wonky. The story isn't really doing anything for me either. The banter just doesn't seem all that meaningful or interesting. I like the loading screen story bits, I think. I'm only basing that on if they're from the alien's point of view. The basic gameplay is still pretty stellar though.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Sept 27th. Early Morning.
    Finished up Chapter 4. This game seems really short in comparison to DG1, but there seems to be a lot of replayablity. Though I've already got gold on most of the levels. I guess there's other maps and the level editor. We'll see!
    Finished!
    I blazed through the last 5 stages pretty easily. There some cool levels though. I'll probably go back and do the levels I didn't get gold on and maybe try hard or the other modes. I like the way the story resolved I guess.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Sept 27th. Evening.

    Got gold medals on two of the levels I didn't previously have. One level that was giving a me a lot of trouble I was able to get through with minimal issue. I bet it has to do with the tower upgrades I got from the later levels more so than my strategy. The scatter shot upgrade for the gun and laser towers is pretty powerful. Just two more to go.

    Played some more and now have all gold medals on all story missions and played a grinder variant. I'm still not sweating as much as I was in the first game, but maybe that's just because I kind of know what I'm doing now.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Sept 27th. Late Evening.
    Did a Grinder and Super Grinder level and got gold on both of them. I just discovered that you could click on the command ship to buy new platforms and stuff. I didn't know you could do that at all during the campaign. It would have made some of the levels a lot easier. Whoops.
  • Started on May 24th. Early Morning. PC.
    The PC version of this game is pretty fucked. I can't even get to launch through Steam. I have to launch it through the .exe. Kind of a pain. Generally I'm enjoying what I played so far. I really needed to lose myself in a game recently and this one was pretty good for that. I've seen a lot of praise for this game and that always makes me cautious. However I've seen some really scathing opinions of this game's portrayal of female protagonists. Personally I think they're all over reactions to a decent game.
    There is a lot I like about this game. I love the ability system. It allows for a lot of interesting ways to play the game and the failure state influences players to explore that ability system instead of sitting comfy with one preferred load out. The story, on the other hand, has me sort of lost. I'm at a point where the Process has taken over much of the city. It feels like I've pretty far in the game, but I don't know much about what is happening. I fear it will all be presented in a big exposition dump and I'm not too happy about that.
    When it comes to Red as a character, I don't really know why they had her lose her voice but I don't agree with some of the views I've seen about her. That her being voiceless and being guided around by a male character is some how misogynistic. Those characters were clearly romantically involved before the events of the game and whoever the couscous in the sword is, he never treats Red as anything other than an equal. While she is voiceless, she's not a brain dead doll, and does communicate with him and the player very text on more than one occasion. While these spots are infrequent they do sled a tiny bit of light in on her character.
    I'll probably finish up the game later today.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Finished on May 25th. Early Morning.

    Beat it. It was ok. I didn't enjoy it as much as Bastion. I just didn't get the sense of the world like I did with Bastion and the characters were not strong or interesting enough to hold up what was there. I think it could have benefited from a short intro scene before the game started that just set up the world a bit.

    The story used a lot of similar themes to Bastion near the end but didn't do them as well. I didn't know why the world was like the way it was. Maybe I missed it in the character bios. I'm also not sure if there was a choice near the end or only the one ending. The ending I saw was alright and sensible but it still left me with a lot of questions. I still don't understand why Red lost her voice to begin with. The game felt too short because of this. It could have used a lot more time go into the characters and world instead of putting all that into locked character bios which the player may never see.

    I enjoyed the combat a lot, however toward the end I found myself relaying on the early abilities; Mask, Jaunt, Crash, and Breach. Then building on them. While this was efficient, I found myself limited to this since the more interesting combos were limited by the memory I had. Which I maxed out at 24. I didn't really much of the challenge room stuff though and finished the game at level 11.

    The ability screen UI felt like it was backwards. I really wish it had us pick the slot then pick the ability. That would have been way more intuitive.

    I thought the boss battles were probably the best combat encounters in the game and wish there was more of them. Bastion had pretty lackluster bosses and it's nice to see an improvement on them. The final boss was really interesting and I just barely was able to defeat him. Also I really how the VA did that character.

    So in conclusion... Transistor was ok. Probably won't be on my GOTY list, but I'd recommend it to someone if it was on sale.

    I thought I'd play a few levels again. Man this game looks so much better than the OMD1. There's a lot more customization. I love planning my loadout before taking on a level. Hopefully I can make it interesting when I LP it.

    Played more to get familiar for my future LP of it. Man, it's a lot harder than the first game early on. I'm not so sure about if I like the skull system early on in this game. It's kind of fucked early on. They definitely want players to play levels over again early on. I did an LP of this when it came out but I had a rule in that I could not move on to the next level until I 5 skulled a level and I could use the level rewards if I got 4 or less skulls. I may adopt that for my new LP.

    I think I picked this up on the steam sale some time. I played about a half an hour of it, but I didn't really like it and probably won't play it again. Bought this during the Steam Sale and ehhh I don't really get it. I only played about 30 minutes of it and enjoyed the platforming, but didn't like that there were no checkpoints and that I had to play through the same stages over and over again. I don't think I'll be playing it again.

  • Played on Jun 29th. Early Morning. PC.

    Another game I picked up on the Summer Sale. First off, this game has really awesome art. By the title I was expecting some sort of RTS or TD game, but no it's an arcade-y platformer/shoot'em'up and is a lot of fun. I only played it on Easy, but enjoyed what I played. In the game you pilot a mech/mecha who is slow and chunky. The controls reflect this pretty well. The walk speed is slow and the pace is built around that. There is a dash that can be done by double tapping a direction, but I found it tricky to do on a PS4 d-pad. I like this game. I may play more of it.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • Started on Jun 29th. Early Morning. PC.
    Played about an hour and a half of this game. It's ok. It's an adventure platformer that is not quite a Metroidvania. It has been pretty linear so far. It's level design is mostly empty large hallways. Enemies don't seem to do damage either, so that's a bit confusing. It's puzzles remind me a lot of the early Resident Evil games in that they tend to be just oddly shaped keys rather than puzzles. There was a rather obnoxious part where you had to fill a clay pot to use a weight and it would empty if you fell from too high or were hit by an enemy. Almost quit the game a couple of times because of that. Still I'll probably play a bit more of it and see where it goes.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Finished Jul 7th. Early Morning.

    Apparently I beat the game. It just sort of ends without any real challenge or anything. The only difficult part was there was this annoying timed underwater jumping puzzle. The underwater jumping is really wonky and you basically have to stand right at the end of the platform to make the jumps. That said, I wouldn't say this was a bad game. Definitely unrefined and lackluster, but not really terrible. I wouldn't be surprised if this was one of the dev's first attempts at completing a project. One thing I really liked about it was the art style. The characters and environments look nice and are well animated. I most likely won't be playing this game again and probably wouldn't recomend it, but I don't feel like I wasted my time with it. It showed a lot of promise.

    Yet another game I picked up during the Steam Summer Sale. Its another little puzzle game that was probably released for tablets first, but whatever. This game is pretty awesome. I've been enjoying playing through the basic levels and trying to get perfects on every stage. I will absolutely play more of this.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Jul 4th. Evening.
    Went through more of this. Really liking it. The puzzles are all pretty well designed and the audio/visual presentation is really well done.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Jul 5th. Morning.

    Went through a couple more levels. They're starting to get pretty tricky. However, I started one set and the two of the colors are a bit too similar for my tastes. I'm not colorblind, but they used two shades of blue and it's a hard to tell them apart.

    Played Jul 6th. Morning.

    Got through more of this while just relaxing and listening to some music.

    Played about 3 or 4 levels and oh man, some of these got really tough.

    Oooo talk about Retro. This game really nails the NES aesthetic. Unfortunately it feels like a mediocre NES game rather than a great one. I love the presentation, but it just feels old and stiff. I may play more of it later, but I don't know.

    Woah this is a really buggy game. It sort of looks like budget Bastion. That's a real shame that it's barely playable. Ah well. Uninstalled and on to the next.

    So this game is a lot like a java game I used to play in middle school called Jet Slalom or something like that. I really liked what I played and will probably play more in the future.

    This is a retro platformer and like Oniken is nails the vibe that it was going for but fails at making it enjoyable. The game just feels old and stiff and I didn't enjoy much of what I played.

  • Played Jul 8th. Early Morning. PC

    First off... I don't think the contorls are set up right to use gamepad right of the gate. I couldn't really find a menu to rebind them and none of the buttons that you would think take you there did that. When I found something that said "options" it took me to the credits. I tried getting back to the screen by pressing "esc" a couple times and it exited the game. sooo.... I don't know what's going on with this one. I was able to get it playing sort of, but it really doesn't like my game pad at all. Things are bound all over the place and make little sense. Navigating the menus is almost impossible or completely opague. I tried playing with keyboard but when I hit down the game closed. What little I was able to play was ok, but really to awkward for me to be sure that it was how the game was meant to be played. My internet is out at the moment, so I can't check if this is a common issue, but I am very dissappointed with this situation. This game looked like it would have been so much fun.

  • Played Jul 8th. Early Morning. PC

    For whatever reason this game wouldn't launch from Steam and I had to launch from the game's folder instead. Regardless this game is really fucking awesome. I played it for about 2 and half hours straight. The mechanics are so similar, but work so well. It feels so good when you get into the pace of the level and are hitting everything perfectly. It's probably the most intense game I played since Super Hexagon.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Jul 8th. Afternoon.
    So I'm really tired and am trying to get my sleep habit back to something normal. This is probably not the game to do that with, but still I'm really enjoying it. My right got real sore from this last play session like I was playing too much Wii Bowling.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Jul 9th. Morning.

    Had some trouble with my main computer's monitor and had to play this on my laptop. That mouse isn't as great and I found it to be a bit more tricky. OF course it's my mouse and not my own ability.

    Played a little bit more of it while waiting for my roommates to get out of one of the bathrooms.

    ~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Aug 11th. Morning.
    Decided to boot it up again and played a few levels. I got to one and just couldn't get into the rhythm of it for some reason. It's still a pretty rad game though.
    Played a few levels while waiting for a video to upload. Man those timed levels are tricky.
    After watching the quick look I had to pick up this game. I only played a little bit of it but I like the way it controls. What I don't like is that the menus don't wrap. What the hell! Why do games keep not doing this!
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Jul 17th. Afternoon.

    Got my lady character up to level 7. Happened upon a lot of gold and was able to buy a sword that had 33 attack. Got me up to the second boss. The bosses are really hard. Really hard. I don't think I quite have dodging down yet. The canceling window seems a bit wonky on some moves. I haven't quite figured it out. But I'm liking what I played so far. I really like the soundtrack.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Jul 17th. Evening.
    Played a bit more and I don't know if I should have bought this game. I really don't like getting infinitely juggled by enemies until I'm dead. I'm just not really understanding the combat system. I don't know what Leveling gets you either. It seems I'm having no easier time on the "easy" floors despite being level 9 now.
    Tried this out. The gameplay seemed fine though I only played the intro. I was real disappointed that you couldn't edit your character's appearance and just exited and uninstalled. I was looking for something with a more detailed character creator.
    ~~~~~~~~~~

  • Played Aug 13th. Afternoon. PC.

    There is the demo out for this now that's just the character creator. I messed around with it and tried to recreate myself. It's not as intuitive as messing with sliders was in the last games. But it's ok. I hope I won't get sucked into buying the Sims 4 when it comes out fully but I can't help but mess around with a character creator.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • Started Aug 15th. Afternoon. PC.
    This game certainly is a slow burn. I was in the mood for a jRPG and have been eyeing this since it popped up on steam. I've never heard of the series before. I only played through most of the tutorial and it seems alright so far.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Aug 16th. Morning.

    I got a bit more through this. I like that the characters aren't complete cliches so far. They're certainly archetypal but at least they're not the typical starting heroes of a jRPG. It seems this game is about a lot of side quests. Which is fine. I only just got to the point where they become available. I'm liking it so far.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Aug 16th. Afternoon to Evening.
    I've been doing just about every side quest I can before moving on in the story and am enjoying this game fairly well. It's becoming pretty predictable but I'll see where it goes. Right now I'm at a tower that was built by an advanced ancient civilization. Just got to the top of it. Had a fight with a mimic that drained most of my MP or EP, whatever. It was good. The combat is pretty decent so far. I almost never use magic though.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Aug 16th. Evening.

    Admittedly I'm feeling a bit stressed and wanted to take the day off (though I shouldn't have.) Playing this game was a great stress reliever. I just completed the Prologue. I really liked the investigation portion. It wasn't complex but it was a nice change of pace. While in the forest area I accidentally took the progress path thinking it was a side bit. Hopefully I can go back there 'cause apparently there is an item for a quest that I didn't find there. This game is really lax on treasure chests. There doesn't seem to be a lot of items to find. Lastly, I haven't mentioned this yet, but I'm digging the music for the most part. It has the charm that modern jRPGs tend to lack. It doesn't surprise me that this was originally released in 2004.

    Played some more. Now up to the second city area.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Aug 17th. Late Morning.
    Okay, I really can't stand the music of Bose, the second city. It's maddening. I did some story stuff then remembered there were some other monster bounty quests and did one of those.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Aug 17th. Afternoon.

    I don't know if I'm comfortable with the way female characters are treated in this game. That's the big generic thing about it. It has this terrible obsession with "perverted" characters. That completely falls flat and shows it's age. This session I met the fourth party member and it was an awkward introduction. But he has a gun and good range in battle.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Aug 19th. Early Morning.
    Yeah that Bose theme isn't getting any more tolerable. I did some sidequests then the main quest only to find out that the next step in the main story will have me go to the area that I just did the side quests at. That's fine though. The world map isn't large enough that travel is really all that painful.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Aug 20th. Afternoon.

    Completed mostly sidequests which involved running all over the place. It's getting a bit annoying.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Aug 20th. Evening.
    Got through the last of the sidequests I had then sat through a very long story section. I now have the fourth party member, Olivier, in full time (at least probably) and am starting to find some enemies that were probably balanced for four party members. I did all the side quests before getting him and was actually facing a bit of a challenge. I think I'll build him as the party's healer.
    What else was annoying is that few enemies in the area drop fire crystal things, but are weak to fire so I've really been able to upgrade my character's orbments as much as I'd like.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Aug 20th. Late Evening.

    Finished up Chapter 1. Seems they split up the party again so I lost two people. That'll make combat a bit of a pain but I'm sure new characters will be added. One thing that the last area of Chapter 1 did was throw a bunch of enemies at you that only drop fire crystals. Nice design there. *grumbles* Also I wish there was more music. Every type of area seems to use the same tracks. That's a bit disappointing and the music can get pretty grating. Still I kind of just want to play more of this game. It's really gotten its teeth in me.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Aug 21st. Early Morning.
    Got to the third town. It's music seems much more tolerable than Bose's. Along the way there was a lot of nice scenes of character development between the two main characters. It's a great detailed even if it slows the pace down.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Aug 21nd. Late Evening.

    Did all the initial side stuff and some of the main quest in the third town. Got the 6th character as a temporary party member. I probably should have waited to do some of the quest since the one monster bounty was really actually hard and it would have been some much easier with a third party member.

    I like the way the story is going right now. There some interesting things going on in the larger story of the region, but it seems like I'll be doing some play thing so add that to the relatively short list of jRPG cliches this game has.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Aug 22nd. Early Morning.
    Started to do some of the new side quests. Some of them were kind of annoying to be honest.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Aug 23rd. Early Morning.

    Finished up the optional dungeon and all the side quests in the 2nd chapter (as far as I'm aware.) I only knew about the optional dungeon because I looked at a guide when doing the sidequests. It gave men enough crystals that now my two main characters have all their orbmnets unlocked and have a crazy amount of spells. Especially Estelle. Which is unfortunate since she has the less amount of MP. Ah well.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Aug 23rd. Afternoon.
    So I'm at a point where the two main characters get involved in a school play and it's super contrived. They have to stay at the dorm and go through school life and stuff. It's pretty dumb. I'm assuming there will be some sort of attack during the actual festival or something. Right now it's pretty lame!
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Aug 23rd. Evening.

    Finished up chapter 2. That play was super lame. Apparently there are a ton of hidden optional things that you can do through that this game that I didn't know about. I should have figured considering it's a jRPG. Looking some of them up it seems they ones I missed in this chapter weren't a big deal. Maybe some other time I'll go through this game again and 100% it. We'll see.

    Regardless I like the way Chapter 2 ended. The twist wasn't a surprise but was well done. It seems there's something similar to the Black Runes from Suikoden 1 involved with all the minor villains of the story. I'm really liking how each region has it's own intrigue and arch. Makes the game feel sort of episodic and not overly "epic" (in the negative way.)

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Aug 23rd. Late Evening.
    played some more into Chapter 3. Got to the bracer's Guild. I like the assignment person of this region. She's basically the game devs saying "Look let's just speed this a long bit, shall we?"
    One thing that I don't like is how their trying to start a bit of a romance between the two main characters. Especially since it's the female character, Estelle, who is the source of it. I'd understand if they didn't live together for 5 years as siblings, but since they have a sibling relationship (ie Joshua is her adopted brother) it's just super awkward. Also Agate is the most generic character in this game so far, but I was just introduce to a little girl who is super smart and knows machines so that's pretty generic too.
    Played some more. I can now access most of the bracer guild side quests of chapter 3 and have been working through them. They've been pretty standard so far.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Aug 25th. Late Evening.

    Went through all but a couple of the Chapter 3 bracer quests while listening to the archive of today's Bombin' in the AM. There was one that required you to run all over the map and it was tedious but had at least some character connections. It wasn't great. Another was a minor investigation thing that was text heavy and not really all that interesting. The one I didn't do yet involves finding books all over the region so I'm just going to use a guide.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Aug 28th. Early Morning.
    Got through most of Chapter 3's story. Just got the final character in my party for a bit. Haven't gotten to try him out just yet. I really hope that the final chapter is really long and lets you use all the characters, but maybe there isn't a party selection system. I don't know. One thing that is annoying is there this one book side quest that I can't turn in because the npc isn't there. I just want to turn it in and do the rest of the quest. Bah!
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Aug 28th. Morning.

    Played more through the story. Got through the cave dungeon with all the bird enemies. I really like the music there. Probably the best track in the game so far.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Aug 29th. Early Morning.
    Finished up Chapter 3. It ends pretty anticlimactically with no big boss fight, but it does reveal the main villains who really weren't much of a surprise.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Aug 29th. Morning.

    Tried to play this while exporting a video, but it was too laggy and I didn't want to risk it crashing. There's some interesting things going on in the story though.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Aug 30th. Morning.
    Got a bit deeper into Chapter 4. Nothing super interesting to comment about yet. Though I did spend all my money buying cooking ingredients.
    Played a tad bit further into chapter 4. Nothing super interesting to report yet.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Sept 8th. Early Morning.

    Got up through the first half of the requisite fighting tournament. The winner of which will get an audience with the Queen who has mysteriously not been seen by the public in a couple weeks. I suspect that she's actually dead and our party will be accused of her murder. But we'll see if I'm right.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Sept 10th. Early Morning.
    Went through the first optional dungeon of Chapter 4.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Sept 10th. Morning.

    Went through the second optional dungeon of Chapter 4. In the story there was some mention of a princess and I'm 100% sure I know who they are referring too.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Sept 11th. Early Morning.
    Finished up the tournament stuff and am now in castle on my way to see the queen. There is some nice character development I suppose. I really like how this game doesn't have the typical end of the world sort of nonsense at the end. Or at least it doesn't at the moment.
    Played some more a bit later. Lots of story to go through now. Which is fine. Everyone continues to have some connection the main character's father unsurprisingly. Turns out that the Queen isn't dead. The character's weren't blamed for anything yet.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Sept 11th. Morning.

    Just played a bit more. It was mostly just cutscenes. The story is very dense at the moment.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Sept 12th. Early Morning to Morning.
    Had a really long session and am now in the final dungeon. I like the set up mechanically for it. Before it there was this really tough boss battle that you're supposed to lose but can win and I tried it a couple times until I beat it. It was probably one of the most fun battles I had in a jRPG for a long time. The final dungeon itself has some pretty challenging mimic enemies, but the way I have Joshua built really negates a lot of other enemies. He basically earns CP every turn and I can pretty much use most of his Arts attacks and end up with more CP by the time his turn rolls around. I'll often get his super move off twice in a battle even if I don't have any CP at the start. I kinda wish I didn't have to bring Estelle a long since I'd probably rather use Rita or Agate. Ah well, I'm pretty much destroying everything that comes at me either way.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Sept 12th. Late Morning.

    Got a bit further into the final dungeon. The mimic battles have just become kind of annoying rather than actually difficult.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Finished Sept 13th. Early Morning to Morning.
    I beat it! The final boss was really dumb looking and made super easy due the the Earth Wall spell, but ah well. Then the ending itself dragged on for a real long time. There was a lot that they could have explained or hinted at or just done better for the big character reveal at the end. It's clearly set up for multiple games and that's awesome. But Man they made Joshua a pretty generic character. I figured his background would be something similar to the whole "raises as an assassin by the true villains" but alas. Than there's the whole love interest stuff between him and Estelle that's just kind of creepy and unnecessary. It's the type of plot point you'd expect from lazy writers or pornographic fan-fiction.
    Still I might be tempted to play through a new game + and get everything since apparently there's some stuff that carries over into the second game. We'll see!
    Dan Teasdale posted on Twitter that he was hanging out in a hotel bar showing off Roundabout. I happen to be in the area since I was going to Doublefine's PAX after party. I played it for about 20 minutes and it was fucking hilarious and amazing. I can't wait for it to come out.
    This came out today and I popped in and played it for a bout 10 or so minutes while I was waiting on food getting done. I'll play more of it later.
    Played about an hour more of this and got to where I could jump. I decided instead of going beyond to the next area to do some exploring and find as many sick jumps and cash things as I could.
    Got up to the 3rd area. I like exploring the world but man am I terrible at it.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Finished Sept 20th. Afternoon.

    I finished the all the story bits. This game is fucking hilarious. I didn't know about that one guy appearing in it and when they showed up I had a massive grin on my face. My only complaint is that it's a bit short. I might go back and try to find all the collectables though.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Sept 23rd. Early Morning.
    OK. So I went around collecting most of what I could find. I was enjoying myself until I have to go back to one specific location by the snowy area. It's right near the end of the game. Making a couple of tricky jumps I could get to this one horn, but fuck that area so much. The jumping is so frustrating. ARAKSDJKASJD...
    Also I noticed that there is no Menu Wrap. Once again, how do you make a game that is controlled with a gamepad and not have menu wrap?
    Regardless the best horn is the fanfare one.
  • Played Sept 1st. Evening. PC?
    This was one of the games being shown at SIX and I played two sessions of this game over the course of the event. This game is so fucking rad. It's even better than I thought it would be.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  • Played Sept 1st. Evening. iPad.

    Played this game at SIX. It was pretty cool. I actually wouldn't mind it coming to the PC since the controls would work well with the mouse.

  • Played Sept 1st. Late Morning/Evening.

    I played this a couple of times while at SIX. It's interesting though I'm not very good at it. Sort of reminds me of Bomberman with more directed weapons. It's a pretty cool party game, but I'm unsure if I'll ever be in the situation to play it again.

  • Played Sept 1st. Afternoon/Evening.

    Played it at SIX and fucking loved it. It's so fast paced and unique. I could see this game being the next Towerfall or Samurai Gunn.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • Played Sept 1st. Evening.
    Played this at SIX. It was a pretty interesting little twin stick shooter. I liked how the main weapon was like a flamethrower and I love the newer art style. I had seen it many many months ago but it looked a lot different back then. I enjoyed what I played but I don't know if I'd played it again or buy it.
  • Played Sept 1st. Evening.
    Another game I played at SIX. It's a lot fun. It was great to see so many awesome local multiplayer games. I could see this one getting really popular. It has a great art style and solid mechanics. I'd certainly play more of it.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  • Played Sept 1st. Evening.

    Holy shit. This game is so much radder than I ever thought it would be. I played it at SIX and Invisible Arcade. I didn't know the dev was local and I talked to him a lot about the sound design he is looking to do for the game. I couldn't resist giving him my contact info. Hopefully some thing comes of that.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • Played Sept 1st. Late Evening. PC.
    I played this at the second Invisible Arcade. It's certainly an experience, but once I figured it out I found it a lot less engaging than when I was still figuring things out. I think it needs to be more abstract with it's controls and visuals.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  • Started Sept 4th. Early Morning. PC.

    I bought this game because it look really good and I don't know. The jumping feels weird. Like it doesn't have enough horizontal momentum. Maybe I'm just not that good at it. Just beat King Knight and that's about it. I don't know. It's just ok. It didn't really grab me in the way I thought it would. Fucking awesome soundtrack though.

    I'm getting the hang of it a bit more. I like it more now that I have some abilities.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Beat Treasure Knight, Plague Knight, and a couple optional bosses like Baz. I really like the boss fights in this game. They are very well done.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Sept 7th. Early Morning.

    Played up to Polar Knight's level and man... Fuck that level. I died so much I just had to quit.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Sept 8th. Morning.
    Still enjoying the bosses. Still hating the amount of instant death traps there are in this game. Especially since it doesn't really add challenge. It just wastes the player's time.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Sept 9th. Early Morning.

    Beat Tinker Knight after having a lot of trouble with his stage. Again it was an awesome boss battle even if I just ended up using the invincibility amulet to continually bounce on his head. They item makes getting through things a lot easier.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Sept 9th. Afternoon.
    Beat Propeller Knight. I like the air dashing sub weapon they give you, but man that area that uses it suffers from the same problem most of the level design in this game suffers from. Too much instant death. Another annoyance is that when getting on the catapult to the town it lands you on the opposite side of town's catapult and it's not uncommon for me to jump poorly and then accidentally use that catapult. It's my fault, but it shouldn't be designed in a way to allow that to happen.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Finished Sept 14th. Afternoon.

    Beat the game. My opinion is unchanged. It focuses too much on instant death. It's mechanics doesn't really support that very well. The punishments are too great for death and check points too far apart. Instant death works well in games like Super Meatboy or Dustforce because of the fast respawn and short levels. There's no punishment for dying in SMB outside of having to try again. Shovel Knight takes one of the worst aspects of older platformers' level design and just imitates it without bringing much new or interesting to the level design. The boss battles were generally well done however. I especially liked the Tinker Knight fight, the re-fights, and the hat boss. The final boss was ok, but after so much instant death pits it made that element just more annoying rather than making the fight more tense. I won't be playing this game again. I do like the sound track, art style, character designs, etc. I'd love to see a more refined sequel that has much better level design. It's not going to be on my GotY list and I won't be recommending it to others.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
  • I've been playing this through out the year and didn't think to put it on this list for some reason. Honestly its probably one of my favorite games of the year.
  • Played Sept 22. Afternoon. PC.
    This game is rad as hell! I love the art style and feel. Its great how you move as fast as you would in Doom or Quake but the game has a very slow moment to moment pace. I love the sound design and music. It's all really effective. I'm absolutely going to play more of this.
    I got pretty excited for this game after the Unfinished I decided to buy it. It's super janky at the moment and that's unfortunate, but it didn't stop me from playing it for 2 hours straight until the game crashed on me. It took forever to install and still doesn't launch from Steam. I have to launch from the .exe directly. The menu controls are wonky when using a d-pad and the contorler does weird things to the mouse if you try to use it, but again all that aside I really enjoyed what I played. The rogue-lite mechanics work oddly well for this game and basic driving/fighting mechanics work most of the time. I really like this game.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Oct 5th. Early Morning.

    I had this game just lock up during the loading for me multiple times ruining good runs, but the basic game is so fun that I'm not really mad. Especially since this is an Early Access game. Once they get some of the jank sorted out this game will be great.

    Oct 5th. Morning.

    Finished up the main campaign of what's in the current build and now going through new game plus. The Rainbow Road level is pretty dumb, but this is the sort of racing game I've been looking for. I actually send Jeff a Jar Time question about why racers games nowadays seem to be either heavy simulation car porn wankery or causal cart racers. It's nice to see a wacky racing game that isn't bound to reality but also not aimed at kids. This is a breathe of fresh air.

    Played more of the Campaign + and it was pretty difficult. Couldn't get far at all.

    I picked up this game at the same time as Road Redemption since it was on sale and I was interested in it. The Uplay stuff is unfortunate and made it a pain to install for some reason. I played through the first area and am not very good at this game at all.

    I want to do an LP of this game since it's pretty short and I could record a playthrough in about a day. I decided to play it a bit to familiarize myself with the game since I haven't played it since 2006. But right now my TV is my desktop's monitor since my monitor broke a couple months ago. So I had to play it on my PC via an emulator. It's mostly functional. Sometimes there is hiccups, and the emulation is not at all prefect. However the game does look better through the emulator than it does on PS2 or PS3.

  • Started Oct 21st. Evening. PC.

    I'm in the backer beta. It's rough around the edges but a lot of fun. Before I stopped playing I had a full team wipe of all my most experienced people. That left me mostly young inexperienced people and now all the older folks who were my regents, sagewrites, etc are starting to die and the younger folks aren't experienced enough to really be a good fit at taking their places. It's an interesting bit of emergent narrative that I quite like.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Oct 21st. Late Evening.
    So I restarted because I got to a point where I thought I was stuck. In the restart I find myself relying on save scumming through the battles too much. My character's just aren't hearty enough to deal with the stronger enemies (who seem to miss much less than I do). I find the enemies tend to have so much health compared to my characters. Especially the bulwart guys who become essentially immune after being hit once.
    There's a lot of cool stuff though. I had this amazing alchemist named Natalie Morris who only fought in one battle until the head of the Morris family passed away. She became the head of the house at only 18 and mothered like 12 kids. One of her daughters, named Lady Morris, went on to be the new teacher after the old one (who was an amazing Hunter) passed on. Shortly after though she had an affair with another character and was accidentally banished. So I reloaded my save and Lady didn't have the same traits but there was an opening in a Keep so I married her to the person she had the affair with. It's really great for this emergent stories!
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Oct 22nd. Afternoon.

    Man I cannot get any caberjacks what-so-ever. Of the four keeps I have 2 of them are Hunters and the other two are Alchemists. However they'll all slowly dying out or the families have multiple keeps. It's pretty wonky. I think the game may suffer a bit from a lack of population. I wish adult characters gained experience outside of battle like the children do too.

    After having some leveled up characters I'm not having as much trouble with the combat as I was last night. Especially now that my Hunters have veil armor and can hide anywhere. That was a real game changer.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Oct 22nd Late Evening to Oct 23rd Early Morning.
    This game is really good once you start getting some leveled up characters. I can't stress enough how awesome the little emergent stories are. I had an alchemist who was amazing. All positive traits, but she had amazingly high intuition. So when one of my sagewrights passed away I decided, knowing that my battle party would be weaken, to make her a sagewright. Now my research is all much faster.
    I'm about half way through the game right now. Just passed 150 years. I've finally been able to get some caberjacks. The game really seems to open up and balance out compared to the early game.
    I stopped this session because I came to a point where to there are 3 cadence attacks. Two of them are in areas that have 2 strikes. I know which one I'm going to choose now that I've stepped away and thought about it, but the one I'm going to have to lose has always been struggling and the family there has another branch in a different region. The one I'm going to pick has spawned some of my greatest characters and holds one my strongest families. I can't not pick it.
    Played some more. I lost that one region. The region I saved family is almost gone however due to lack of children. I gave them a baby girl, but that's all they have. hopefully I can revive the house. It's really cool that this could even happen though.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Oct 23rd. Afternoon.

    Nearing the end of the game now. I was able to rebuild my one family. I think the game still needs some UI polish. All the missions are fun and I love it when there's a ton of enemies.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Oct 24th. Early Morning.
    Eesh. Things are going poorly. I lost another region that had a lot of Hunters and now I have barely any hunters. I'm at year 250. It feels like the end game, but things aren't going as well as I'd like. It's getting pretty intense.
  • Started Oct 28th. Late evening to Oct 29th Early morning. PC.
    My desktop computer is currently busted and I'm playing this on my laptop. I've played the first two chapters. It's fantastic. Wonderfully written dialogue and a very powerful intro. I'm so glad there is a reference to the "Shelves. Still just shelves." It barely runs on my laptop but I'm still enjoying it despite the low wonky frame rate and playing on the lowest video settings.
    Decided to jump back in a few hours later and completed the first episode. For some reason I thought it would be longer. But it's great. Shitbot was amazing, Mira was amazing, all the characters outside of Reza (who was always a kind of shitty character) were amazing. I'm so glad I enjoyed this game. What's also cool is that my name was the 2nd "D" in the credits.
    I was able to beat Mom on my second run. This time I was playing with a controller and it was a little awkward to be honest. I found myself getting stuck on edges a lot while walking around and shooting with the face buttons was strange for me.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Nov 5th. Early Morning.

    I tried one of the new characters. Got pretty far. To the Womb 1 and died at the boss. I had this really cool item that spawned blue spiders from defeated enemies. It was pretty rad.

    Played Nov 5th. Morning.

    Had a couple of Eve runs that all ended on or before floor 3. bah!

    Had another run with Isaac where I was able to beat Mom and unlock Maggie.

    Had a decent but wonky run as Isaac. Got to Mom but died. Getting used to the gamepad controls. Items like the Chocolate milk aren't great when playing with it.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Nov 5th. Late Evening.
    Beat Mom's Heart as Maggie. Unlocked Cain and Eden. I had a good run where I got Daddie Long Legs and a piercing shot early on.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Nov 6th. Early Morning.

    Did the tank challenge and unlocked a rune. I tried some other challenges but found the slow move speed to be hard to get used to.

    Also did the tech challenge to unlock robo-baby. That was a really fun challenge. I was able to get a fear effect so my lasers were homing and would basically stop things from moving. It was pretty amazing.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Nov 6th. Morning.
    Tried some more of the challenges and failed most of the time. I was able to unlock Tech 0.5 and I'm curious to see what that is though.
    Had a really good run with Cain. Got all the way to Sheol.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Nov 6th. Late Evening.

    Had a couple runs but didn't really get any crazy combos or anything.

    Then I had an amazing Cain run where I was able to get guppy mode and had the 9 volt + guppy's head. I was spawning a circle of flies like crazy. Unlocked the noose and a bunch of challenges.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Nov 7th. Early morning.
    Got through another challenge. Had some crazy setup with Tammy's head, but then went into a dice room and everything changed. Then had some bad runs as Isaac.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Nov 7th. Late Evening.

    I was able to beat the first challenge and unlock one of the runes.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Nov 8th. Early Morning.
    Beat the High Brow challenge. Tried the head trauma challenge but couldn't complete it.
    Came very close to completing the Head Trauma challenge but died right outside the last boss room. Then I had some unsuccessful runs.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Nov 8th. Morning.

    I had a run as Isaac where I beat Satan. Again I was able to get Guppy mode and overwhelm everything with flies and crazy damage. I had a thing that makes you deal more damage the more money you have and had a really high fire rate plus spectral tears. Bosses didn't stand a chance.

    Tried out Eden and got a terrible load out, but was able to make it to the floor with the Mom fight.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Nov 8th. Late Morning.
    Was able to beat Mom using the bible and unlocked the halo. Didn't get much further after that though.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Nov 8th. Afternoon.

    Beat Isaac as Azazel. I got all sorts of items that block or reduce damage and Mom's contact. I wasn't dealing crazy damage, but I could avoid a lot of damage and freeze enemies. Still only beat Isaac with like 3 hearts though. It was my first time getting to the Cathedral too!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Nov 9th. Morning.
    I spent about an hour and half trying to unlock Samson (take no damage for two floors) but due to terrible luck and unavoidable/unreactable damage I couldn't do it. It really pissed me off because I was so close so many times but it often just came down to bad luck. This game really needs some polish and has some really questionable design choices.
    My one roommate got this with his WiiU. I wasn't really liking it until I switched my controls around then I was enjoying it more. It was as fun as Brawl and I'll probably play more of it every now and again. He's too good though. There's no way I'd ever get decent enough to beat him.
    I bought this with some birthday money. It doesn't run well on my laptop at all, but it generally works. Good thing there's cloud saves for once I get my desktop PC back up and running. I didn't play much of the game. I spent a long time making a character then a longer time getting the controls to feel right, but eventually I got things to a place I like.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Nov 23rd. Morning.

    I'm still in the intro. It crashed hard and I had to reboot my laptop. That said I'm enjoying what I've played so far. The combat is a bit to MMO-y for my tastes and I don't like the subtitles don't have the name of the person talking. I imagine that later bit is really bad for deaf folks. But I'll keep at it here and there.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Nov 23rd. Late Morning.
    Finished the intro. I like the story set up and the characters. I only played about half way through DAO but eventually I realized one of the characters appeared in that game. I only watched some videos of DA2 but instantly remembered the one lady and the dwarf. They're pretty likable so far.
    What I don't like is the combat. It feels sluggish and it's not just because it runs really poorly on my machine. It's basically just typical MMO combat. Stand there and press hotkeys. Not terribly engaging or interesting. The enemies have way too much health, and your abilities cost too much MP and take too long to recharge. Even turning it down to Casual didn't really change it much. I'd love to see a Bioware RPG without combat, but then I realize it would be an Telltale adventure game.
    The looting in the game is kind of annoying too, but at least there doesn't seem to be much of it. Which is nice.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Nov 28th. Afternoon.

    Played a bit further and did the first part of the main quest. I don't know about the combat or inventory management. It all feels old, awkward, and wonky. It could be that way because it runs at like 10 FPS on my laptop, so I'll reserve judgement until I can play it on a smoother machine.

    Also there are hints of a Suikoden-like element to the game that gets a me a bit excited.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Dec 1st. Late Evening.
    Did some more side questy stuff. I played a couple of hours but it felt like I barely got anything done.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Dec 2nd. Early Morning.

    Played enough for the game's main quest to open up more and now I'm enjoying it considerably more. Got two new characters both of whom I'm not super interested in, but I found that left country to be fairly interesting. I'm starting to see that Suikoden-style castle elements to this game and am enjoying that part the most. Yeah, it's hold over from the Mass Effect games, but still.

    Also, I twice accidentally clicked a romance option with Cullen so I'm now weaving a bit of RP that my character is a bit of a flirt. It's not always perfect for the dialogue though and I find the conversations can jump into tone a bit to suddenly. Though I don't see how they could get around that without planning for every possible choice. Not really practical.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Dec 2nd. Afternoon.
    Played about an hour and half of just sidequest stuff around the Hinterlands. I'm not a fan of how there's a lot of impassable mountains that make things that should be easy to get to really difficult. It's pretty annoying when you think you're super close to something only to find you have to wander around a big ass mountain to get to it. It would have been great if they put in some little path ways here and there to make travel a bit more friendly.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Dec 2nd. Late Evening.

    Did more stuff around the Hinterlands though I have a number of other areas unlocked and should visit them. There's a lot of content here. Most of it is probably not worth doing. I can't imagine what it's like if the other areas are as big and I've barely explored as is. Anyway, I have a new party member, Blackwall, and I like him. I think I'll bring him around with me. I also spent a whole bunch of power not doing the main story line and I feel that maybe I should just focus on that. So I guess it's to Redcliffe next time I play.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Dec 4th. Evening to Late Evening.
    Did the main story quest in Redcliffe then went to the Storm Coast and recruited Iron Bull. People have been saying his their favorite character, but I don't see it from what little interaction I had with him. When I did the story quest in Redcliffe I brought the two other mages since I thought it'd be interesting. It was a bit. There I was introduced to the other mage character and may like him a bit more than the other two.
    While exploring the Storm Coasts I found a cave and had a funny bug where I was eject from the cave and thrown about 100 years away. It almost killed my character from falling damage.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Played Dec 5th. Early Morning.

    I cleared out most of what I could find in the Storm Coasts. There's plenty of shards left uncollected and caves left unexplored, but I'm pretty much done with that area for now. I had enough power to take n the first major choice and, since I'm playing as a mage, I decided to go with the mages. I also decided (foolheartedly) to only take other mages with me since I thought it might be nifty. I was not expecting a time travel plot to occur. That's pretty disappointing.

    So I battled my way through the mission and got to the boss. I had no problems there, but during the cutscene after we teleport back, the game doesn't let me choose (nor displays) the dialogue box and I can't progress. I tried this twice and the same thing happens. I haven't looked for a fix or work around yet. I do have saves from earlier I could go back to fortunately. Though I'd really rather not want to choose the other route.

    Every Sunday night we have game night at with my roommates. Usually we play Carcassonne or CAH. Tonight we played the Yawhg instead and had a great time. The stories that would come from it were amazing. One game my one roommate played a guy who would just tend to patients at the hospital but he was completely unable to deal with any of the events that confronted him. Eventually it ended up with him destroying the hospital on Week 6. I hope to play more of this next week.

  • Played Nov 26th. Evening. PC

    I bought this game because of the live stream. I'm not so sure about it. I didn't really find it very enjoyable due to the way the enemies behave and how it seemed I could never get ammo or health. I did three runs and couldn't get passed the bosses of the first level any time. I'll give it a couple more chances, but so far I'm not too keen on it.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Nov 29th. Early Morning.
    I did a couple more runs and I don't like this. I wish I hadn't bought. The enemy AI makes it no fun. Too many enemies just rush you down and all the weapons I've picked up either fire too slow or deal too little damage. The combat isn't enjoyable at all.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~

  • Started Nov 27th. Afternoon. PC

    Picked this up on the Steam sale. I like what I've played so far. The story and characters are pretty uninspired but the monster design and animation are nifty. It was very clearly made for a tablet and that's fine. It played well with a mouse. I didn't really notice much of a difference between the normal and veteran difficulty however. I'll play more of it.

    Played more of it and am starting to understand the pace of the combat system a bit more and am really enjoying it now. I feel like the equipment would be better if they gave you two slots for accessories or if there was a way to refund all your stat upgrade points because I feel like my stats are too low for the enemies I'm encountering now. I guess I could go back and three star previous stages to level up a bit though.

    ~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Nov 29th. Afternoon.
    Got a bit further. I'm finding this game has some common problems found in other RPGs. I found it's pretty easy to get into a situation where you're reviving an ally only to have them die on the next turn. Energy/MP management is kind of annoying as resting doesn't recover much and all the battles are endurance tests. I feel like I've made some bad choices early on with how I was building my characters and now I need to restart. I haven't yet, but I'm considering it.
    This is an fun little math matching game that seems a bit too easy even or someone like me who isn't very good at math. I played through the first two world, liked it, and I may play more. but I'm not sure. It would probably be a good game for young kids to play to get better at math though. I'll certainly keep it in mind when people ask me for games to play with their kids.
    Booted up this game thinking it was Crimzon Clover. haha. Played up to second boss and found it pretty tricky. I like it graphics and constant chatter in Japanese that I don't understand. The lock on mechanic is interesting though I don't think I'm skilled enough to make the best use of it. Maybe if I rebind the controls to be a bit different.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~

  • Played Nov 27th. Late Evening. PC

    This game is totally rad. Everything is exploding forever. It's amazing. I'm not one to play the more bullet hell-ish shoot'em'ups, but I really liked what I played of this and will definitely play more of it. EVERYTHING IS EXPLODING!

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Played Nov 28th. Afternoon.
    I tried the blue ship and enjoyed it's play style a bit more for some reason. I was able to be get to the second stage boss without losing a life on whatever the default mode is. I can't play this game for very long because I tend to hold the fire button really hard. Probably (definitely) too hard. I'm going to try rebinding it to one of the shoulder buttons. Might be less stressful then.
    Had another run. I discovered that you can bind the player 2 controls to be exactly the same as the player 1 controls and control both at the same time. This is pretty interesting to be honest. I don't quite understand how it works but its a pretty fun way to play the game. Didn't get much further though.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~

  • Started Dec 20th. Afternoon. PC.

    I picked this up on some Steam Sale at some point after the quick look. Got around to playing it today. I find the controls awkward. It doesn't seem to work with a mouse and keyboard too. I'm finding that because you need to use your flashlight to interact with things I'm missing a lot of things I could interact with and had to consult a guide for quick reference of what I missed. However I really like the premise, writing, and atmosphere so far though and will most likely play more of it.

    ~~~~~~~~~~
    Finished Dec 25th. Evening.
    OK. SO I've been reading through George RR Martin's collected short fiction. Much of which is 70's era Sci-fi with a bit of a horror bent. This game's story is has a similar feel. Holy shit the ending was great.
    The puzzles I found to be fairly opaque at times. Maybe it was my desire to get through the game quickly, but some of them felt little obnoxiously complex. Though I turned to a guide fairly quickly. Perhaps too quickly. I did want to get through this game to get to others though.
    I found the combat superfluous. It wasn't awful and did at some nice breaks in the pace, but had it not been there my opinion of the game would not have changed.
    Still though this might be one of my favorite games of 2014 for the story alone.
