The problem with stereotypes is, they're easier to spot. There's always some bastard doing something they shouldn't, but if it fits a stereotype then it hits a few more nerves when you see it.

I'm not sure about the John theory, I'm not near the game at the moment but if I remember right Cole says that John was torn apart physically by the ray-sphere. I'm pretty sure most things die when the flesh and tissue is ripped from their bones.

I didn't expect the ending but somehow it didn't surprise me at the same time. I quite enjoyed pretty much all aspects of the game and I look forward to them bringing back Alden and Sasha for more later on, hopefully more developed characters in some way. I was a little (only a little, i still enjoyed it) disappointed that the game didn't change dramatically when you played on evil instead of good. Only little bits of conversation and the odd film sequence changed and even the main sequences were the same both times. I expected Trish to be replaced with Sasha when I did the evil play through as most of the evil missions were in her name and she talks to you during the balloon missions.

small notes for previous comments:
in the final fight you can dodge the psychic push by doing a combat roll which is easily anticipated because he does a lot of short teleports right before he uses it.

Kessler (Cole) had powers from the outset, this is implied in the story when it says that he used them to come back in time in the first place. He then gave Cole powers but this does not affect the future or past; the whole thing is a parallel reality from the moment kessler went back in time, ie all the events of kesslers reality still occur/occured somewhere and somewhen else. (this is probably more confusing if you don't like time travel concepts in the first place)
