@FunExplosions: How is the tested.com server run? Is there a chance Whiskey Media could take control of our server? If no one steps up and this server will close in November-ish, could you let us

download the map so that we don't lose everything?

SNIP

I second this notion.

@DaddyTin: Hey tinman, just a thought, you might have that problem at client side. Since a couple of people connected today with no problems, including me. If you're at your work pc, it might have been the antivirus or non certified login from your minecraft account or something.

@Capum15: Hey capum, Press F3 in the game to see the current version you're playing (on the server). It is on the top left. If the server isn't in the current version, your client might not connect and say "server not up to date". Glowstone is a problem to craft still indeed I second that, gnuberren first discovered it.

@NeverDave: Unless you found a hole through a bug in the map generation
Yep.
I too have fallen into the black abyss beyond the bedrock.  Took a lot of diamond gear with me.  T_T
Damn. Notch did patch that "bug". For the longest time I thought it was a feature to the game, since it was called " the void'. It is officially gone after maps that is generated after the Halloween update.
The only time it happened to me was pretty unlucky, I'd only had the game a while and I was just digging straight down to see what would happen and managed to find probably the only one block wide hole in the bedrock for a long distance in any direction. Digging for that long and then hitting sky again I thought Minecraft had a spherical world, oh how wrong I was…
Ahaha, I find it quite interesting that you proved the surface shape of your minecraft world by digging down, and how we can't really do that for earth :(

EDIT: Just realized this bedrock jazz thread jacked our OP's topic.

To contribute, THIS Video shows the necessary tools and steps used for diamond hunting. Rules still apply to the current 1.6 version.

Server's up!

11:54, my time. I believe that qualifies as "in the morning." Success!

The IP address is different now, and I didn't remember to backup the newest whitelist file. PM me if you're getting the whitelist refusal. ...and let me know if it still runs like shit!

edit:  It also appears that we've lost a bit of work. I'll check around, but it looks to be about a week's worth. I honestly collected the world data immediately last thing, before the server change, so it's beyond me as to why the data is still old.

Just visited the server after being re-added to the whitelist. It appears though as you have your inventory the same -- just before the server moved, but the world is reverted back by *Two Weeks (Before May 3rd 2011). (Is it possible to regain those weeks of progress for the world map since the world save you retained before the move?). Also the server doesn't have any commands and/or mods and it is set on peaceful mode. Chunk errors remain ever so present, seems like the old chunk errors you see in the 1.2-4 SMP days, when you have the chunk exposed and it won't ever re-fill until you re-log -- but that might be due to notch making it 1.6 and maybe in fixing some bugs, he created some.

PS. How I have found those weeks of progress lost was because the entire section of my build area was gone, reverted, I joined the server a bit over a month ago I believe. My friend Jcky joined me on this server a couple of days before May 3rd (dated via logged chat on instant messenger), to build on the island that I was building on.

@Matfei90: Did notch patch the "void" areas? I remember that there are holes in bedrock which you could throw items out or just commit suicide if accidentally jumped through. Easy to find!

I never knew the Giant Bomb community had a Minecraft server; that's awesome. I got the game a day ago after watching these British guys playing through it with their own story.
Would they happen to be the Yogscast? Because they're awesome.  Anyway, I really hope this gets fixed soon as we can now make awesome Drawbridges and traps. Also, Maps!
Oh man... Hatches and minecarts, you know what that means. An ACTUAL PEZ DISPENSER FOR THE SUBWAY WOOT WOOT.

@ScribbleN: The main difference is: minecraft is build orientated, with a dash of combat, while terraria is combat orientated with a dash of building, but both games require crafting. Think of Terraria as collecting then adding element A and B to a magic craft table that creates a sword/gun/armorset. While minecraft is arranging element A and B to make the shape of the armor to truely craft it. Terraria has more of a traditional RPG element to its crafting, You need 10 of A and 20 of B to make C. Then combine C with 10 of A to make a better C. While almost all of minecraft's elements can be found by mining, Terraria forces you to attack monsters for that phat loot. If you have played diablo you'll know what I'm talking about. Terraria forces you to look through biomes, slaughtering massive species to get that rare set. After 28 hours (3 days progress with a friend online) I've felt that I have beaten the game. Gathering every rare element there is to find, while minecraft only rests when your favorite multiplayer server is down, it is up to the creative mind to give an end to minecraft.
