Mass Effect 2 and Assassin's Creed 2.
I don't understand. Those games are objectively great.
Not as great I expected them to be apparently :(

I'm curious about your disappointment in AC2. ME2 I can understand, as it changed a lot of what was awesome about the first. But AC2 improved just about everything from AC1. Or is your disappointment in 2 solely on its own merits?

@Damian I think the problem with Gearbox in this situation, is that chances are somebody higher up said "Make something that looks like it was made by Olly Moss". I'm assuming that a random artist at Gearbox didn't decide by himself to use this style.

Sounds about right. Happens all the time at my work and being on a very limited schedule at my current job it's sometimes hard to be original. Still, the artist can't trace someone's artwork cuz that sky just looks straight up copied.

I don't know about the mandate stuff. This isn't concept work. It's a poster designed after that stage. I honestly doubt whoever did this was even in-house. But I guess to place blame with as little to go on as we have takes a certain level of assumption in some direction.

That said, I still feel justified in shaking my head and thinking "for shame" to the artist that thought copy>paste was a legit way to get paid that week.

Shadowrun. I liked it more than most. But the lifespan of that game, the non-existant campaign, the failed-to-launch DLC, the closure of FASA: Saddening.

I don't think Gearbox can be faulted for this as they can't be reasonably expected to know where all their many artists are getting all their many assets. This is one artist's fault who was too lazy to draw his own sandy road. Gearbox paid that person when they should have been paying Moss.

IMO both Olly Moss and Gearbox have been duped here.

This is what happens when audiences have convinced Hollywood into thinking that injecting "verisimilitude" will improve every property. Bottom line: Fuck Nolan and the people who say that his movies are the best comic book translations!

The Wii U is Blu Ray compatible? How have I missed that bit of info?

From Wikipedia:

The game discs used by the console were said to be of a proprietary format, and to hold up to 25 GB of data, which is similar to the capacity of a single-layer Blu-ray Disc.

Not Blu-ray.

This has to be a port/feeler for a potential remake. Who would throw a real development budget blindly at Killer Instinct in this day and age? And would Rare do it? Could Rare do it? They're super busy making cartoon clothing.

I'd be shocked and pleased if Microsoft decides to go big with this. I just can't see it happening right now.

I hope I'm wrong.

Maybe there's just not much to discuss more than "it's a great single player 2D stealth game". I see in the leaderboards that around 30,000 folks have played while connected online in the first week, and the designer's twitter is full of him responding to giant compliments. So it seems to be doing pretty good for Klei. My sense is that people are just happy to play it more than discuss it's "depth" or "story" which, let's face it, it ain't got much of either unless you're really into Japanese poetry. But maybe it's a good thing that people would rather play it than talk about it (?).

Hopefully they add some nice PCesque things to that version when it drops, like a level editor, new classes, or mods perhaps. IDK. But it could have a better life there, discussion-wise anyhow. I'd also hope for better UI in that version. That's the only spot I feel they dropped the ball on, really. Like said, it'd be nice to know more about the level you're getting into before picking a loadout. Also why show me the upgrade screen with a "confirm to progress" when I already have all the upgrades? Why tell me my progress will be lost if I want to quit AFTER finishing a level (hate when games do that, especially with no clear save option)? And why no "continue game" option at the main menu (leading some folks to think there's no continue at all)?

Little niggles like that could be better, but once passed all that and playing a level it's just a great game, so it's not hard to forgive those things.
