It seems that nowadays, most games are progressively trying to advance on old ideas. Most games have at least one main selling point.
For instance, the lame ass swinging mechanics in Bionic Commando, or the “wide expansive world” of FUEL. But all of these ideas are barely new, as developers are trying to pretentiously grow on other people’s ideas using the latest technology.As cool as this is, it’s still annoying when you see these ideas being advertised as “brand new.” I mean, what was “Eyetoy” is all of a sudden “Project Natal.” Sure, the interactivity between Milo is cool, but the dodgeball element is very tired. Window cleaning will never be bettered.
The latest Prince of Persia felt like this, as the sandbox element didn’t help it. Having to actually manoeuvre around a big environment, as cool as it was, was pretty boring. It felt like a bit of a knockoff onto previous PoP’s, and trying to jump onto the sandbox bandwagon was a terrible idea. Also, the collection of lightseeds was boring. Still, the story wasn't bad.
