In the interview with Dutch economics program RTL Z, Sony Europe president David Reeves speaks about the economic crisis and how it relates to the video game industry in Europe.

Reeves is quick to state that the industry is not recession proof, but that there is no notable impact . He posits that consumers are putting the recession to the back of their minds over Christmas, or that they are choosing to stay at home more and, as a result, are spending money on home-based entertainments, such as video games.
Reeves also states that within Sony Computer Entertainment Europe there will be no personnel or development cutbacks. "We don't have many personnel to cut back.
Half our personnel are in the development of the games. That's an investment. We're not scaling down at all." Good news for first party developers; it looks like their jobs (and the games they are developing) are relatively safe.

Activision Publishing, Inc. (NASDAQ:ATVI) has released new details on X-Men Origins: Wolverine, whose titular hero is one of the most popular Marvel characters of all time. The video game, scheduled for release in May 2009, coincides with the global debut of Twentieth Century Fox's release of its feature film, X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, which is also based on the famous Marvel character.
From the award-winning studio Raven Software, the video game enlists players to experience the tormented origins of Wolverine, from his escape of the Weapon X facility to the jungles of and beyond. The game is currently in development for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 , PC, Wii , Nintendo DS, PlayStation2 and PSP and is not yet rated by the ESRB.

Sebastian said that initial checks indicated sales were strong at stores and that comparison-shopping engines Shopping.com and Pricegrabber.com show that video games were among the most sought-after gifts for the holidays . Microsoft in its recent press release announced that U.S. Xbox 360 console sales over the Black Friday weekend were on pace to beat previous years . It estimated Black Friday sales were about 25 percent above 2007 numbers and that Xbox 360 outsold PlayStation 3 by a three-to-one margin . though I personally expect the Nintendo to exceed Microsoft in terms of sales but unfortunately as of yet there is no Nintendo report to judge on .
Microsoft was not alone in Black Friday’s sales .Peter Dille, senior vice president of marketing and PlayStation Network at Sony, said in an statement that the company’s U.S. sales are up 90 percent year-to-date and that sales are on track for the company’s fiscal year which ends March 31, 2009.

Sony Computer Entertainment Staff Annual Briefing held on November (21/11/2008) in as a private meeting . fortunately (or unfortunately ) some of the news have been leaked and as a matter of fact they all worth your attention.
Perhaps the most important news was about PlayStation 3’s price cut . SCEE President David Reeves took to the stage to discuss the current economic climate and how it shouldn’t affect PlayStation business, though was quick to mention that SCEE will be getting more competitive in price from March 2009 onwards . so we all should expect a Price cut [the amount is still unknown ] on March 2009 ( yes , also Resident Evil 5’s release date ! ).
PS3 is more popular among PAL territories than 360
David Reeves reported thatPS3 is performing better in PAL territories and there is a huge install base dedicated to Sony , he also added that this install base gap will significantly increase in 2009 .

Sony has managed to prepare some of its top notch exclusive tiles for 2009 .3 exclusive trailers were shown duringSony Computer Entertainment Staff Annual Briefing .
First trailer was about Uncharted 2 , the trailer was pretty thrilling and showed Drake being shot at the end , the graphics were relatively like the first game and there was not so much difference between two but the game certainly looks promising nevertheless .

The games we choose to play, and the way we play them, reveal a tremendous amount about us -- from our creative drives and ambitions to the dark corners of our desires."
Video games are Gate to the Dream Land , to memories , wishes , to our souls . just like anything else conceivable , Video games are categorized in different forms and genres . Brutal , scary , funny , serious , documentary , scientific , fast , puzzling ….. . each category has its own style and fans of those particular games have their own world .
Some study has been held about the subject of personality and what video games a person would like to play . A Study by Brad Bushman and Jeroen Lemmens were held in this regard . Their study consisted of 299 (12-17 )year olds from Belgium and the Netherlands. In both Belgium and Netherlands after grade school children are either placed in lower or higher forms of secondary education depending on their grade school performance. The results shows that as a whole the boys were more interested in playing violent video games rather than non-violent ones. The researchers also found that lower educated boys tended to not only wanted to play violent over non-violent games but tended to have more addictive traits. Belgian boys wanted to play more video games more than Dutch boys. Also the more empathic boys tended to want to play non-violent video games.

These people usually purchase less games but instead play hours and hours of Multiplayer matches and rule the leader boards . Xbox Live and PSN is their favorite place and they can not get enough of it .

Mixture is not a new class in its nature and as the name suggests it is about people with mixed feelings and preferences . more than 50% of all the gamers belong to this class . We play games too ! Those who love Call of Duty but also do not mind playing hours and hours of Final fantasy . Halo 3 fan boys who can not wait for Alan wake . Those who are smart but damn crazy , girls with male preferences , middle age guys who love to play little Big Planet , and any possible combination (you name it )

Epilogue : Video games are a window to our souls and the view isn't always pretty. sometimes it is the best possible cure for our pain while other times cause a trouble and make things worse . but Over all gaming is undoubtedly the best possible entertainment in our modern world . just like anything else Video games could be misused , most of the gamers are harmless people who only seek enjoyment (and they have certainly found the right way) but also we should not forget that some take the Video games too seriously and implement them in their real lives . Hope we are not one of them .

Xbox 360 ‘s exclusive titleis another monster game just like the previous game (Wow , who knew ?!!!)
The game sold over 2 million units in its opening weekend and proved to be another huge success for Microsoft and Epic Games. this incredibly polished title also boost XBOX 360 console sales noticeably and is waiting to beat (or at least approach )its closest rival“Halo 3 “in terms of sales .
It is worth mentioning thatover 1.5 million users logged on for 15 million hours of gameplaywhich set a new record for existing LIVE players .

Well NPD just released the sales details and numbers and they are indeed mixed news .
In terms of Consoles and Hardware sales, XBOX 360and Nintendo DS were the absolute winners since the consoles sold more than the previous month despite the fact that all the other hardware saw a significant drop in sales .
Here is October’s Hardware sales :
1-Wii -- 803,000Units
2-Nintendo DS -- 491,000Units
3-Xbox 360 -- 371,000Units
4-PlayStation Portable -- 193,000Units
5-PlayStation 3 -- 190,000Units
6-PlayStation 2 -- 136,000 Units
In terms of video games Fable II conquered the month and sold over790,000 units . all the other Games had significantly less numbers .

One thing is for sure , Little Big Planet was not what Sony expected (at least on October ) , this most anticipated PS3 title sold even less than SOCOM: Confrontation a game which was not a real success for Sony either .though we should never forget that Little Big Planet Release Date incident which was delayed because of THE Quran related music trackcoupled with the terrible PSN Servers at that particular period were the main reason for the bad sales during October . However I guess we will see a better sale for this game during November . (but how much better ?!!!) .

Conclusion : as always Microsoft is in a very stable and safe position and Nintendo keeps emptying the pockets of billions and billions of house wives (along with hardcore male gamers !!!) despite the current economical conflict around the globe , BUT Sony on the other hand is experiencingsuch down times which could cause sever damage to its financial structures . Sony is losing the game in a time where the industrial market is getting worse and worse <---->Consumers getting more and more Picky.
so the question is : What will be the future of Sony ?
