The games weren't just chosen on quality grounds - we're trying to mix up the genres and get in as many multiplayer games as possible for folks to join in on. So that, plus what's technically likely to cause less problems on the day because this is all being done from my sitting room with a load of people hanging out. So the PS3 stuff can be problematic as HDMI capture throws up a lot of software issues. I could bring the Tricaster in from work, but it's probably not worth the hassle. Livestreaming all these ain't no joke! :P

@PsEG Thanks man - I have saves for most of the games with heavy tutorials (Fallout/Halo3) but I'm sure something will go wrong on the day! I'll be glad if we get anywhere near our goal. It's significatly easier for me to do this with all the promotion that GameSpot and Twitch will have on the day so I'm delighted it other folks are beating us. I've got a list of other live-streams that we're going to pimp during ours - including GB community ones. Should be a fun day.

Deleted a few of the earlier posts about spam because I don't want this thread about charity devolving into a rules discussion, and the original post is fine as it stands now. If anyone has an issue or complaint regarding that, please PM me directly instead of posting it here.

Anyways, back on topic, best of luck with this livestream drive! I can't imagine you'll get past the intro/tutorial missions in a few of these games (unless you're preparing saves in torturous/entertaining locations for those circumstances), but that's a great selection of games regardless. Not that you'll have trouble attracting viewers, but here's hoping you rake in lots of money for the children.

Matt Pascual's beating you in donations, though. Just thought I'd point that out while it's still true.

@dannyodwyer: You're crazy having minecraft at 2009. That should be either Uncharted, Batman or Assassin's Creed 2! CRAZY. Can't you get the PS2 stuff recorded on a 60GB PS3 for quick access?

@Baillie: No worries, yea they have but I may have to swap some out because of issues capturing from older consoles (the PS2 era stuff can be problematic to switch to quickly).

Woah, hold on a minute. The reason I said it was a weird situation is because it's obviously for a good cause, yet it'd be classified under youtube spam and advertising! Although, I'm assuming GS isn't advertising no more.

@dannyodwyer: Also, sorry for the dickish response, I had to go and caught this before I left. I hope you manage to raise a billion dollars though, that'd be pretty awesome. I will be joining in to watch for as much as the 24 hours as I can. Quick question, have the 24 games already been selected?

Since I'm a communist this sounds like it'll be expensive for me :(

I'm posting this as a long-time member of the Giant Bomb community - if that makes it any better.

Since joining GS I don't tend to post what I do there on here - but cmon man. It's charity.

Playing video games for a day is the only way I know how to contribute to society and the lives of others. So on October 20th GameSpot will live-stream a 24 hour gaming marathon in support of gaming charity Extra Life. Extra Life is an annual event that raises funds for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals around the world, and this year myself and some of my most handsome friends will live-stream 24 of the best games ever made - each chosen from 24 years of gaming history. One per hour starting with the 1989 classic Prince of Persia. The entire event will be live-streamed on GameSpot and Twitch.TV with community interaction, online gaming sessions, prizes and special guests galore!

Last year, Extra Life raised more than 1.2 million dollars to save kids, but in 2012 our goals, just like the needs of the children, are much, much higher. Temple Street Children's Hospital in Dublin treats thousands of children each year, regardless of their family's ability to pay. These kids are facing scary things like cancer, cystic fibrosis, and injuries from accidents to name just a few.
