@oursin_360: Story wise, I haven't seen much of a connection between the 2 so it's safe to just jump into this one if you care about such things. There's some minor callbacks but nothing that would take away from your enjoyment.
Almost everything feels better, combat wise. Your spells are now just hotkeys and the movement/swordplay feels improved. The humor is still the same though and Wang is Wang. Also, the amount of loot they throw at you can get overbearing at times. Its mostly the gems/upgrades used to add bonuses to your weapons and player bonuses. You can freely swap them in and out though so there's no debating whether to put an upgrade on X weapon or Y.
Games are really super connected in the story department. Almost every character is returning from that title and events of the first game lead to the state of the world in the second. To understand stuff hapening here you need knowledge of the first game.
