Games Completed in 2012

The games I played this year were mostly awesome! Shame I didn't get to play more though. :/

List items

  • It's New Year's Day, and here's my first game completed for 2012 (though started in 2011)! This game has a lot of ups and downs, but overall I enjoyed it a lot. Visuals were amazing and combat was surprisingly great, but the platforming was awful and the story confusing. The good definitely outweighs the bad here though, and it's one of the most unique (and bizarre) games I've played.

  • Finally finished this game! Of the three Zelda games (OoT and Spirit Tracks being the other two) I've played, this is definitely my favorite. Skyward Sword's control scheme is mostly fantastic (aside from climbing and swimming), and level design is clever and fun. The game is held back a bit, though, by an empty overworld and padding in the form of fetch quests.

  • Awesome game with great characters, tough decisions that lead to emotional moments, and improved combat. There's some disappointment to be found in the emptiness of the galaxy this time around and the ending is less-than-satisfying. It's no Mass Effect 2, but it is certainly amazing.

  • This game is special. Just a great expression of art that can have many personal interpretations and also plays like a dream.

  • I wish this game was as awesome as its predecessor. Really disappointing story and some other problems, but still a fun game.

  • Loved the story (way beyond anything in the second trilogy), pretty visuals, and occasionally fun, occasionally frustrating gameplay. It's a really good Star Wars game, and I like it a lot.

  • Though repetitive, it's an great start to the series with an amazing story. I must play that second game soon.

  • Phenomenal game. The best story of any game with amazingly open-ended gameplay.

  • My first PC shooter! It took a good bit to get used to the controls (and even near the end there were times I got overwhelmed). The game's super awesome. The storytelling's fantastic, and I loved the different gameplay decisions you can make in terms of how to approach a fight and how you interact with objects and NPCs. I really want Max Payne 3.

  • Awesome game. Loved the gameplay choices in both combat, stealth, and traversal. The story was a missed opportunity, sadly.

  • Great platforming and equally great beats. Really want to finish the Death Mode challenges and mess around with the level editor when I have the time.

  • A haunting experience and a very important game. I don't think I want to play violent video games for a while...
