Monthly Summary - August 2011

A slower month still, but yet more purchases made.

The Naked City (DLC - L.A. Noire)

Completed: 7th August 2011 (17:30)

Involved: Completed to end of story

Summary: Best DLC so far, should have been in the base game. It was complex, lengthy, had lots of characters, sections, moments of action, intrigue, stealth. I still got annoyed durin investigations, but it was overall a much better experience. Recommended if you only play one DLC for this title.

Next: Nicholson Electroplating coming up.

Base Game Rating: 4

DLC Rating: 4

Nicholson Electroplating (DLC - L.A. Noire)

Completed: 7th August 2011 (18:40)

Involved: Completed to end of story

Summary: This was a more straightforward and shorter piece of content, but was interesting nonetheless. Has a impressive opening sequence and some inventive puzzles.

Next: That concludes my L.A. Noire time.

Base Game Rating: 4

DLC Rating: 3

Splinter Cell

Completed: 18th July 2011 (22:30)

Involved: Completed on normal difficulty.

Summary: So with the release of the first 3 titles in the series in high definition, I have decided, in a similar fashion to my Halo-fest earlier in the year, to play every Splinter Cell title in succession. Finished the first one up tonight, got it done in 4 or 5 sessions. It still holds up and was nice to go back to after such a long time, it was interesting to find that I had less trouble figuring out how to bypass sections of missions, stay hidden and avoid using weapons and gadgets, than I did when I originally played it upon the Xbox's release. Had no technical issues with this re-release, and the quick-save option led to me being able to play through the game faster.

Next: I will be making a start on Pandora Tomorrow in the coming days. I can't wait for this one as I have fond memories of certain sections, and look forward to using the new moves and mechanics for the first time, all over again.

Rating: 4

Also Played:

Played more DiRT 3, got first place in all events and platinums in all Gymkhana Academy sections, but have more DC Challenges to do which I feel are the hardest for sure so we'll see how it goes next month if I get some time. I played Bad Company 2 online for a few nights early in the month but that soon died down. I played a bit more FEAR 3 but am way behind on that one. Played a little From Dust, Brink, Armageddon, Solatorobo more, Homefront, Bastion, Dungeon Siege 3. Started Castle Crashers as it was free for PS Plus'ers. Picked up on Resident Evil 5 again and am up to a cave section possibly mid-game, enjoying it more than I did previously now that I have played Shadows of the Damned. Decided to pick up the Splinter Cell Trilogy and am making a start playing through that series again. Picked up Serious Sam 2 again, Sonic 2 due to Generations buzz, played in a Gears of War 2 clan match was poor results. After a debate in my head I swept up the remaining Summer of Arcade games as I got Toy Soldiers: Cold War and decided, fuck it, I'll get Insanely Twisted and Fruit Ninja so that I get a free game later - not played them at all yet! In England, I picked up New Vegas and Human Revolution, the later of which I have started on and am LOVING IT so far. Been missing this style of game so September should be fun.
