I totally know what you mean though. I have only one other friend that I can geek out about pc games with. Hell I work at a video game store, but no one plays pc games there. Not even WoW. 
 
It's a lonely place out there sometimes.

If they know how to build a computer but never play games; it kind of baffles me on why they would even know the knowledge to building PCs. Only thing I can think of is video editing; but its still ridiculous.

I hate making great jokes that nobody gets. 
  
A girl once commented on how her and a bunch of her girlfriends were going to have an all-girl stag party. 
Naturally, I asked her if it wasn't a "doe" party.

Then I had to explain the concept of deer, doe, and stag.

its often easy to forget some people are still in the dark about videogames, thats why i don't bring it up unless i know they have some knowledge of what i'm talkin about. Its very awkward getting that blank stare. But yeah, what the hell is wrong these people, to have the ability to build a pc but not know anything about games, it hurts my head thinking about it.

I've built a career around my ability to edit ini files, a skill obtained from messing around with Unreal Engine 1.

You should quit your job. RIGHT NOW.

People who have grown up on Halo will never understand playing Wolfenstein/DOOM for the first time.
 
We really need a Hall of Fame for videogames that preserves them for future generations

What else can you do with computers!?

That sucks, but not everyone is a gamer sadly. I usually move in my gaming knowledge slowly around new people because you never know, but i always share it eventually. 

Ok everybody that I know up till now that builds PCs plays video games.  NOBODY so far at my new job does!!!  I am blown away that nobody has heard of Myst (the point an click adventure), DOOM or Portal.  I was making a joke about how useful a portal gun would be to move computers in boxes around, and nobody got it.
 
Oh and for the background on my job, I tore apart and fixed 5 computers today.  3 of them had bad mother boards, 1 had a bad hard drive, and one....well its owner got pretty much a new PC due to the fact that sticky liquids and PCs don't play well together.  I replaced the hard drives, the RAM, the power supply, the mother board, and the DVD drive.
