@daveydave: Hopefully PSO2 is what you were waiting for.

The Arks-Layer team has been great with maintaining the English patch and the proxy, and Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet has been a surprisingly satisfying substitute. But now I'm also ready for the real deal. ...after eight fucking years.

I remember playing PSO on the Gamecube. I no longer have my copy unfortunately, I don't even remember selling it. I still have all of my other GC games that I still play on my Wii every now and then. I think once PSO2 is fully out it would be cool to get a giant bomb Team going on it.

Not sure if anyone sees old blogs, but PSO2 is finally coming out in English and reminded me of this. Where does time go man, 8 years ago since I made this little blog.

I'll try to necro this thread back to life, in hopes that a little Giant Bomb guild could start up!

I'm currently working on the story missions in the mines, partying with randoms is very hit-and-miss. I wonder if anyone else in the Giant Bomb community is just starting out in the Schtack servers, and needs some consistent teamwork. If you want to beat up some monsters with "GalacPunt" the robo-maid, that can be arranged!

It's insane that you can still play this game online with a Dreamcast. Too bad I don't have a broadband adapter and there is no way to use the dial-up since I live in a modern home that doesn't even a have a traditional phone jack. I never really played online back in the day either since I only had 1 hour of internet use per week (how did I survive in the pre-broadband world?).

Just downloaded the pc version from the second post in the blog.

I figure I should post my tale, since you guys have done so.
 
My brother (TheMustacheHero) and I were always looking for co-op games to play, and came across a game called "Phantasy Star Online: Episodes 1 & 2" at Gamestop. Of course, back then I only looked at the back of boxes to see if it looked cool or not. Sweet looking armor? Check. Guns? Check. Mechanical wings? Check. (Later found out that was a MAG) So, we went home and popped the game in hoping for a nice action RPG. 
 
Nope. We played this game and it was hard, really hard. So many different items, weapons, MAG statistics, and upgrades...it just didn't make sense. So we stopped playing it, especially because we couldn't save during multiplayer. (Or so we thought.)
 
Fast forward a couple months, to a dusty copy of PSO sitting on a shelf. My brother's friend, Drew, came over and saw we had this gem. "That game sucks," we proclaimed, "It's too hard."
"Me and my buddy play this all the time, he even has online."
 
Then came the day where we finally understood this wonderful game. We were introduced to PSO-World as well.
We fought our way through the game over and over again, eventually surpassing Drew's level. It was awesome.
 
I kept my memory card in the PSO box, and tried to play it again on my Wii. But alas, the memory card was not there. It's somewhere, wondering through the depths of space and time with my character somewhere stored in it's megabytes.

@jadeskye: and me too. The first power stone was amazing. I would go crazy if they released that for xbox or ps3. In fact it would make a brilliant arcade title.... why is this not happening!! 
 
Did anyone ever play the power stone collection on psp and was it any good?

Didn't know there was a PC version. Is this a fan made project or is this just a port of the Dreamcast version? Either way I'm going to check this out. "

Man, I used to play PSO on my Gamecube for hours and hours on end with my brothers (offline). Every day after school for a few months at a time we'd play for hours. I think our data got corrupted once-that was a real morale destroyer. We had to start from scratch, but eventually we racked it up again. I don't think I ever got particularly deep in (level 60 or so) but my brothers were into it a lot more so I was always behind (level 100+ or somethin'). 
 
Fighting De Rol Le for the first time in one of my most frantic gaming memories. We had no idea what we were doing, and most of us were focused on melee combat so it was an exercise in dodging around till he lodged on to the raft so we could smack him around. Good times. Although that can't really compare to the level of sheer confusion and frustration when we'd repeatedly try to beat Dark Falz on very hard. That last form was out there.

My fave boss has to be either Gal Gryphon (that right?) Or De Rol Le. Always enjoyed taking down that boss.

I remember using that site back in the Dreamcast and Gamecube days. I would've never thought it was still alive. It's bringing back so many memories and I'm honestly tearing up a bit lol. The good ol' days.

I gotta go with the dragon, he has the most phases and when you originally saw him back in 2000 and in all the trailers he was stunning. 
 
WHAT?! How are you supposed to fight that thing?! Then you play and kill him on your first try at level 4, somewhat anti-climatic.

@jadeskye Exactly what I used to do a year ago with my ps3 pad. Shame I had to get rid of the playstation or else I would jump right back in. Just not the same controlling it with a keyboard.! 
 
I always remember wanting the broadband adapter but my dad saying no. He was always leaving me behind damn him! :D

@B0nd07 Man I remember those gamecube adapters well. I could only get a 56k one at the time in the UK, and I had to reconnect every 2 hours. I also remember having to keep it a secret from my dad for some reason that I was connecting to the internet. 
 
Fun story, I remember playing with a couple of other randoms, chatting away somehow with the joypad EVEN THOUGH IT TOOK FOREVER!  
A sega GM joined our party and threatened us with a ban as he had found one of us had some hacked items. He played with us for a bit, and I thought 
that was pretty cool, before he figured out who it was. I never did see that HUmar again. Naughty dude! 
 
I also remember my memory card constantly breaking. What was the error code again... FSOD? 
 
Wonder what it is about this game that evokes such memories. Its nice and a bit scary at the same time. 
 
 
Did / IS anyone play Portable 2 on psp? I have it and its not too bad, but doesn't have the same feel.

When Jeff mentioned it on the Bombcast, a flood of memories came to me of playing the Gamecube version.  And oh man, the music in that game.  Been thinking about getting back into it.
 
I only wish I could have found one of those stupidly rare internet adapter attachments.

haha, I'm actually getting goose bumps thinking about PSO, the title screen music specifically. PSO was the first game that I really loved. I would play it for hours and hours and hours. I remember one day of middle school, my friend and I made a plan; we had an exam at 12:00, I met him at his house for 8:00 am, we played until 11:30 and made our way to school. An hour and a half later we were back at his place and we played until 8:00 pm. Hell this was when we where 14. 20-years-old now and we still try to play PSO, unfortunately my friend had lost his memory card with his 150-ish foNewearl when we tried last (it's cool guys, he found it about a month later).
 
I started playing the game on the Gamecube and had a friend try to get me into the PC, but without all my items and levels, it just didn't feel the same. I didn't stick with it for longer then level 10 before I was back on the Gamecube.

PSO was great. Hopefully PSO2 won't be shax. Hopefully. I must've sunk nearly 400 hours into that game, across platforms.

Glad i am not the only one. 
 
Maybe us nostalgia fans could try that pc server highlighted above? What is it like? 
 
The only thing I would be worried about is cheating and hacking, are they protected somewhat?

Whenever I hear that music or even just think about PSO my nads start to tingle. PSO was my first foray into online gaming as well and was the sole reason I bothered with Seganet back in the day. After hearing Jeff talk about it on a recent bombcast I became way interested in maybe trying it again.

I still play it every few days on my gamecube.
 
I miss the days when me and 3 friends used to do nothing but play that.
The bell would ring at 9 am and we'd play till 9 pm, only with lunch and dinner breaks.
So, much, fun!

Just this past hour I have been listening to some Phantasy Star Online music, and have come to the realization that I really, really miss it. 
 
It was my first dabble in online gaming back on the Dreamcast, and i remember my parents killing me when I racked up massive phone bills because I was connecting straight from the phone line.  
 
I always remember the music on the title screen, the sense of being in a different world. I hope that Sega and Sonic Team manage to pull off the same feeling of magic with Phantasy Star Online 2, but after the fun but extremely flawed phantasy star universe and portable games, I do not have very high hopes. 
 
Anyway, time to remember a different time... I will leave you with my favourite track from the game.
