Some sort of EXP penalty for leaving before wave 10 (or wave 20) would be nice to stop those super-early drop-outs. It would ensure that people take more seriously the act of joining a Horde game. You can't expect everyone to hang around for hours, but common courtesy would dictate that leaving after 3 waves is just rude. Yes, this is what "internet randoms" do, but there should be mechanisms in place to deter this sort of behaviour. What would really improve the mode in matchmaking for me would be the inclusion of separate playlists for the three key difficulty levels (Normal, Hardcore and Insane) and (or perhaps alternatively) the addition of a playlist that started at, say wave 25, for people who want to deal with the "second half" of Horde, (perhaps because they have 90 minutes, rather than 3 hours, to spare!) I'm sure Epic could implement this, and given the number of people playing Horde, playlist divisions (so long as there were only 3 or 4 of them) wouldn't affect waiting times too much.

There's nothing I enjoy more than taking out the gnasher-faithful with the sawed-off. Makes up for all the times I was gibbed in Gears 2! I'll admit, I was never good enough with the gnasher in gears 2 to consistently gib people - the learning curve on blind firing was just too steep - which made the game fairly frustrating at times. The sawed-off gives noobs (and, let's face it, also those of us who are fairly good at Gears but haven't been playing since 2006/8) a fair chance against those gnasher pros. It evens the playing field out to make the game more fun for more people, whilst continuing to reward technical skill, team work and tactical awareness. In time, these "elite" players will realise they can't play the game the way they played Gears 2; they'll work out ways to counter the sawed-off, or hell, perhaps they'll switch to it!

My main concern is that we're only likely to get three maps in the first map pack DLC. For 600-800 MS points, I would expect more than that, particularly when one of them is a re-make (albeit of an amazing map). This would be a poor deal compared to the majority of Gears 2 packs. If they're going to re-release more Gears 1 and 2 maps (which I'm all for) they should do it in a special retro, which should, ideally, be free. Let paid-for DLC be new, please.

Just for the sake of comparison, Gears 2 had the flashback map pack which was 400 MS points for five old maps; the Combustible map pack which cost 800 MS points for three new maps; the Snowblind map pack which cost 800 MS points for five new maps; and the Dark Corners pack which gave you seven new maps and campaign content for 1200 MS points.

It reduces the cost of DLC to closer to what it should cost: 600 MS points per pack rather than 800. Even if you're only likely to get three out of the four packs, it's worth it.

I'm hoping a future update will enable a choice of hardcore or insane for matchmade Beast games. At the moment, its fixed on Normal for matchmaking, like Horde, which isn't the best.

If you're a veteran of the first two games, having done all the campaigns and put in the hours on the multiplayer, you're always going find the third easier than most. If, having played Gears 2 and Gears 3, Gears 1 was your third Gears campaign you'd probably find Gears 2 super-easy. It's widely accepted that you have to play it on Hardcore for any sort of challenge, and for most Gearsheads, Insane is the only way to really put yourself to the test.
