I already wrote a description for this Blogpost, but Giantbomb had a senior moment and I lost at all. So, these are some Asian movies that I think you should watch. If you want to know about even more Asian movies that are great, go to IMDB.com and look for a user named ebossert. He's not me. PM him your email and he'll send you an excel spreadsheet and 4 word documents containing practically every Asian movie that's ever happened. I did, and I'm super glad I did. I will probably add to this list, especially if I watch some good, non-Asian films.
 

Oldboy

    Oldboy is my personal favorite of Chan Wook-Park's "Vengeance Trilogy". This one stars Oh-Daesu, a lousy alcohol father who is kidnapped and imprisoned in a hotel room for 14 years(I can't remember if that's how long exactly). He is finally released one day, where he dedicates the rest of his life to finding out who it was who kidnapped him. With a surprisingly good romantic story, with some twists here and there and an ending you won't forget, Oldboy is a great movie that everyone will enjoy. I mean, if they're a little open minded.

I thought the movie of Battle Royale was awesomely terrible, but that the book was terribly awesome.

You get extremes of people who recomend foreign films to random people they don't know.  Either it's "Le Artiste" who makes a living from bottling their own farts and selling it to others because they think it smells so good, or, "Le Dudererer" who will recomend you the gaudiest clap-trap that looks and sounds as if it was designed in a dimension where real people were anime and their brains were replaced with 56k, they will implore you to view the tripe under the pretention that there is this "one scene", proceeding to describe the complexities of drilling a hole in someone's face with all the comprehension of reality that a 5 year old must possess.
 
I would be the former.  Watch La Haine.

" @Clembo: Which one am I? And I guess it's a good thing I didn't recommend Riki-Oh: The Story of Riki then. That movie is terrible, but the over-the-top everything is awesome. I'd like to think I'm a little bit of both. Also I IMDBed your movie and couldn't find it so... 
 
@RoujinX: I liked Rashomon in concept, but ended up being bored by the actual movie. Is Seven Samurai better? I know it's a hell of a lot longer (I'm only comparing because they're both Kurosawa). Also, I can't find Gozu anywhere! I may look for Nikita, and there's about 100 movies name metropolis, so... "

@RoujinX: I liked Rashomon in concept, but ended up being bored by the actual movie. Is Seven Samurai better? I know it's a hell of a lot longer (I'm only comparing because they're both Kurosawa). Also, I can't find Gozu anywhere! I may look for Nikita, and there's about 100 movies name metropolis, so... "

Gozu was directed by  Takashi Miike if that helps. Same dude who did Ichi the Killer. He also plays a voice in the Animal Crossing movie?!And yes, Seven Samurai is a hell of a lot better than Rashomon. As is Yojimbo.By Metropolis, I mean the Fritz Lang 1927 original. But, that may be a little too far-gone. "

You get points for Kill Zone, but lose points for not having every single other Donnie Yen movie on that list lol

I hate how Holywood remakes foreign movies, sometimes just years after the origonal was released. Seriously, if some stupid english speaking person is to lazy to watch the origonal in its native language, then chances are if it's truly a good movie they would be too ignorant to appreciate it. 
 
They even remade Death at a funeral! A move in english just afew years after it was made, and ruining all of it in the process.

I'm guessing you are American, there are plenty of British films I could tell you to see. If you mean non english films I agree with previous posters, why does it have to be aisian? European cinema is great.

"Irreversible" is a really interesting French movie that sticks with you for a while after watching. ( not for kids )

"Stuart: A life Backwards" A British movie that i would recommend everyone to watch.

I was on a huge asian movie kick for awhile (Japanese, Chinese, Korean, etc) but fucked if I can remember any of them... Most of them were sorta meh for the most part however.

I've seen all of those actually.  Maybe you should have said "Asian films."
 
What about Goodbye Lenin, La Pianiste, Der Tunnel, Im Juli, Kontroll, I could go on...  I could name a ton of great Asian films as well.

I've seen a lot of Miike, even the super weird shit like Bijiti-Q(oh god...) and his episode of Masters of Horror. I usually enjoy his stuff (loved One Missed Call the first time, but the sequals and the remake were terrible), so I've been wanting to see Gozu for at least a year. I like Miike, though he's pretty fucked up sometimes. I've been meaning to see a lot of Kurosawa, like Seven Samurai and Yojimbo and Ran. I've been meaning to watch some really old stuff, but 1927 might be too old for me... " 

If it helps, Metropolis was probably the 2nd sci-fi film ever created, following that 'Journey to the Moon' one where the moon is a giant smiley face. It follows the story of the son of a wealthy industrialist who finds himself lost in the underground of the city, where the workers toil. There's a LOT of visually present allegory (feeding human beings into a giant mechanical monster), but stills that come out of the photography are the beautiful part of the movie. I keep a collection of them on my compuer for desktop backgrounds (yeah, I said it!)

Basically, if you ever want to see the grandaddy of Bladerunner, Dark City, or really the entire sci-fi genre in film, check out Metropolis.

Yojimbo and the Hidden Fortress.

Oldboy is a great movie, and Battle Royale has some minor issues, but I personally enjoyed it, mostly because I like the theme.
 
There are other great movies you should put in here, especially cult movies, or if you want, some old ones. (Kurosawa lol)
