I love Lord of the Rings, and i love Tolkien, and being British i find my self having a huge appreciation for the setting and its "close to home" European flavour.

So in theory, if you take what the films did with Battles, and roll that into Battlefield/Battlefront, i should immediately fall in love with The Lord of the Rings Conquest...Wrong.

What im suffering with here, is atmosphere and accuracy, two things! that matter the most, so let the Rant begin. Baring in mind that this is just the demo, AND i played it on the PS3 (thanks to the ever so fond of Gold, Microsoft) And i dont hate the game, for the record.

Frist! Who the fuck wrote this stuff? in Training, the script for your, well whatever he is, is down right awful! not only is the accent totally off, its delivered in the most cheesy fasion i've ever had the misfortune to be cheesed with. Yeah you could say in some cases, accents in the LotR films are generally bad...when your Viggo Mortensen (aww, no, seriosuly, i love Viggo, he does it well, im just playin)

Oh and to add to that...it felt like i was playing Resistance: Fall of Man, because he reminded me so heavily of the commander in that game, it also sounded like it was coming over a radio...could that be just the PS3 version? i don't know.

Second! since when was a simple warrior in the force of good, able to glide along the floor like a flaming torpedo? now that probably won't bug most, but for me, i'd rather have my LotR game more down to earth, or rather, down to middle-earth (if you like spitting bad jokes!) or at least down to the films...which is what this game is based on. Also, combo's for the warrior look awful, its like he has a bad back problem.

And please, a long bow is not an assault rifle, i understand why it's a hold down button to shoot affair, but it feels stupid. And having multiple mages all using a dodgy shield effect, strafing around the map, just throws me off completely, for the love God, change the effect on that, all it reminds me of is Star Wars (i wonder why)

Yes this is a game, its bound to have more outlandish things than a film might have (Crank 2: High Voltage is probably living proof of the opposite) but still, i want my faithful recreation, i guess i'll have to play the old last gen games based on the movies to get that.

I couldn't play much multiplayer, due to my PS3's lack of faith with my router, i kept getting connection errors mid-game.

Dont get me wrong, will i still buy it? Hell yeah i will! these are just mere ranty complaints, the games still fun, and while the only thing that really captures the feel so far is the music, im sure the full game will deliver a little bit more atmosphere. I hope

Wow. I either completely forgot about this game or never heard about it. I need to check out the demo sometime, but it sounds like it has a lot of problems.

I created a failed thread about this being one of the least talked about games of '09 a while back... Due to Microsoft's finnickiness or my connection's high levels of fail I wasn't able to download it. This scary review makes me want to go back and try again. I'm a huge Hobbit fan (not so much of the trilogy that came after) and so I recently picked up The Lord of the Rings Online: Mines of Moria. The next game I wanted to add to my collection of nerd was this one. After that tirade, I suppose I'll have to be more wary of it.

I've been worried too, with Mercs 2 being disappointing, i thought this would be too, and it kinda is.

No its not terrible, its just not what it should be.

I think your right about the bow they should make it fire slower but be more powerful.

I completely agree on the voice acting, it actually had me laughing it was so bad.

i only played for 30 minutes or so but why can mages out melee warriors and scouts get instant kill?

It's ok, but all the classes seem be unbalanced in some way, like how a scout can backstab gandalf if he gets behind the wizard while invisible, or how an archer has two arrows that regenerate fast that either knock you down or slow you down and poison you. I never had this problem with battlefront.

What about that lame voice telling you what you need to do? It looks like you got a war-radio in your head and someone is "contacting" you. (I know you can turn if off, still...)
And the game looks like an Arcade Game, controlls are way too easy and you just need to "smash and spank" - It's not funny at all, after some minutes it's just repetitive and you get tired of it.

I am surprised that, given your LotR fandom, you don't completely HATE the game. I sure as fuck do. It fucking sucks. Everything about it sucks. And speaking of accuracy, there are only 2 wizards in LotR, Gandolf and Saruman, NOT A MILLION FUCKING "MAGE" ASSHOLES RUNING AROUND! Second, the soldier vs. soldier battles are a fucking joke. Instead of being carefully thought-out attacks with blocking and parrying it's just a combo-fest where you blindly mash the buttons until the other guy does that exaggerated fall move and you keep hitting his body. I would imagine a good version being more like Soul Calibur but in a MP game like this. Everything about this game FUCKING SUCKS. I hate how so many people I know like it. IT IS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE WORST GAME I'VE EVER PLAYED! I'm not even joking. I'm not acting out of impulse. I hate this game. I hate it so much that I rage every time I hear that someone even likes it. It deserves to have every copy thrown in a landfill so that no one on Earth has to be subjected to this. Why can't they just take Ninty-nine Nights, add in the LotR lore/characters, add more depth and mulitplayer/co-op and call it a day? WHY?!!

I like this game the graphics is good but I don't like the gameplay. I like World of Warcraft more than this, even it's so hard to farm wow gold nowadays.

After listening to this weeks Giant Bombcast, i wonder what the staff will have to say when the game is finally out? and whether they will review it...I know Jeff doesn't even like the concept, nor the setting in any way, since he thinks it's...boring.

But yeah i don't expect this to do critically well.

I think its something that will be ok for a rent, and some co-op on the campaigns, but as far as the multiplayer goes.....the way the game is built with the classes it just doesn't work at all. On top of the servers are so fucking laggy. But thats EA's dedicated servers for you. Its far worse with the blend of melee and range cuz of all the constant lag.
