Serious Blogging Episode 1: Is creative still cool?

Serious Blogging Episode 1: Is creative still cool?

In came through my mind one day that we have what is an exception in gaming. It seems that Nintendo's IP games are merely an exception these days, because all other games and game developers seem to have switched over to the "Accepted" FPS boat. I acknowledge that these games are fun, but when did every game have to switch over to the serious "badass" (stressing the quotes there) genre of men in their primes gunning people down in a first person view?

When I used to go to a game store, it would be hard to choose which game to pick because they were all so unique in their own ways. Now it is a question of which shooter should I get on my Xbox360. I must point out the obvious exceptions: Prince of Persia, Bioshock, Fallout 3, Viva Pinata, and Banjo and Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts. What a short list, and even Bioshock and Fallout 3 are FPS games, but they deserve recognition for being unique shooters. My arguement is that there are to many of them that do not stand out at all.

I think the biggest example of this is Call of Duty 4 and Call of Duty: World at War. Seriously, these games are good, but they do not do anything special. They make a "badass" (again stress the quotes) FPS with "DUDE MIND BLOWING" cutscenes all about some people fighting a war. Call of Duty Modern Warfare comes out soon, and that is no exception. Its using (abusing) the same engine and formula. There is no main character to this series, only a guy in his prime, gunning down people in a first person mode. There is nothing special put into this game, just a short campaign, a good online system, and some guns. Our gaming society accepts this game, and that would be cool, as long as it was not the only thing accepted. This is getting annoying when I walk down an isle and I am constantly reminded that half the selection is Gun games.  I admit, Call of Duty is fun, very addicting online might I add, but people, we must find balance. 1 year cycles like Madden and Call of Duty (whilst CoD is MUCH better) do NOT need to be selling well. They are taking up shelf space which other, better games need.

What about Wario??

Okay, so at this point, everyone knows about Wario Land: Shake It (OH GOD). What ever happened to the approach of 3D. I know that WarioWorld is not what we wanted, but why can't Wario be taken into the hands of Nintendo itself?! This is what they need.

Here is how Wario should be-

Story/Premise:

Okay, here is the big thing Wario needs, a good idea on how to present the game. Wario should take a more mature audience, and should be kind of like grand theft auto. It should start off showing Wario losing in one of the Mario spin-offs (preferably Mario Kart Wii since that is the most recent). He should be literally pissed and drive out of the raceway and wreck it while everyone is watching. He does not need to be in some far off land with non Mario characters like in Wario Land: Shake It. Mushroom Kingdom is a good place for the setting. Basically, he should meet Waluigi at some point. His missions should consist of making havoc in the mushroom kingdom, doing jobs for Bowser, and misc. stuff like that. The final boss should be mario. The end all be all fight!

Visuals:

16:9 Widescreen, 480p, solid 60 FPS, and smooth character models. The basics for a 1st party Nintendo game. Polish should be noticable, especially at the calibur that Nintendo dishes out today with brawl and SMG.

Audio:

Well, not that hard to explain. Full sorround sound. Expansion upon the wiimote sounds can be present and should be.

Controls:

I don't know, what could be harder than making Wario's punches and such 1:1.5 (that is the closest technology can bring us) on wiimote. PLEASE NO WAGGLE. They could do a lot of interesting wrestling esque moves that can be intricated through the wiimote. It is sad to see many games use the wiimote in a poor manner. He should have some Farts.

Gameplay:

Kinda obvious, an open world where you do jobs to basically try to destroy mushroom kingdom and make bank. Also, Wario should be able to drive his kart.

Name:

WarioWorld:Kingdom of Havoc

This is how it should, and no this is not an overstatment. Wario is not a 2D platformer and not a collaboration of Micro games. He is a sidescroller on the handhelds, and a 3d platformer on the consoles. Wario should be taken more seriously, and this could set the grounds for one of the most beloved and hilarious antiheros of all time.
