My Game of the Generation

So I'd figure I'd go ahead and make this. I went on Wikipedia and started culling together an overall list of games I thought were more than average or just "good" once I had my entire list of games spanning from 2005-2013 that fit this (around 34 or so) I started knocking the list down. At first, it was easy things like DJ Hero 2 while huge favorites of mine were easy early cuts. The further I got In I realized how hard this was going to be. Some sacrifices had to be made. (Sorry Hotline Miami)

This is the final list I've managed to assemble together. As you can see I have a pretty high affinity for Character Action games and RPG's which is essentially my entire list outside of the two Bioshock games that make appearances and GTA V which is the only open world game on the list. Without further ado.....

Glad to see Bayonetta on this list. I do not think DmC is the better game, but nice to see variety. FF13 is a rad game, nice that your list shows that to the world. It would be more along the lines of a top 25 game for me though.

Not to be snide (I'm going to be snide) but seeing DmC and depth in the same sentence gave me a laugh.

@immortalsaiyan: As crazy and amazing as Bayonetta was just something about the vibe of DmC really got me amped up. While I adore Bayonetta I think DmC did a better job at least in my mind of making me feel like an absolute bad-ass when I was hitting my stride in combat.

@irishalwaystaken: You obviously haven't seen some of the more advanced combo videos people have put out there. Streamlining doesn't always mean lack of depth. There is plenty to be found if you use the tools your given in the right ways.

I can get behind that. I do like the vibe DmC was striving for but feel it missed the mark of executing in a seemless way with the rest of the elements. This is actually where I feel Bayonetta strives as I think it nailed it's tone. Even if I did not feel that way about DmC I just like what Bayonetta is going for more, even if the plot makes no sense, at least it is having fun with it. I had issues with the gameplay in DmC too. Namely how I feel the light/dark mechanic limits combo expression, that being a main draw of these specific character action games. Something like NG is not like that to me. Even with my issues with the game it was well made and OMG that club level is exceptional.

@immortalsaiyan: See, I liked the elemental stuff. I thought especially on higher difficulties you started to have to be really aware of what you were doing to keep a consistent SSS rank during fights. Figuring out how to manage those fights effectively especially with the bigger more aggressive enemies was a ton of fun to me.

I'm more of a God of War guy myself but all this praise you have given for DmC makes me very interested. I remember trying the demo and thinking "meh."
