@Landon: You're not the first person to suggest something like this. I don't feel like such a Lumines-style mechanic fits the game, though.

I'm finishing up the game's tutorial now and I think the difficulty's in a good place now, so I might go ahead and release it before the night's over!

For once, I'm making a game that's primarily for fun (no artgame pretense D:).

I think it's pretty cool, but I could certainly use some feedback to make it as good as possible.

Edit: playing it some more on my own, I think it needs to be more difficult. Maybe drop pieces on every move, but only increase the number dropped when a piece isn't captured?

@Hailinel: jaffe made it personal. he could have ignored leigh's comments. she didn't mention him or anything like that, and i don't know what blameshifting you're talking about. she's been saying on twitter that she didn't expect people to take her comment so seriously. or, in internet parlance, she doesn't seem to think that anybody-- the game's designer in particular-- would get all butthurt about it.

leigh thought a 3d model was poorly done. she (seemingly jokingly) said she wouldn't admit she worked on twisted metal.

david said she wouldn't be qualified to work on a game at all (which might be coming from a sexist place, who can say), and he criticized her profession.

and called her "alex". shrug.

at some point, we need to recognize that the world is a better place when people don't give david jaffe a pass for being a loose cannon. it's not just "jaffe being jaffe" if he can't refrain from... "being jaffe". it means he has serious problems. emotionally healthy people don't do the kinds of things he's known for.

leigh was negative too, but at least it wasn't about a person. you can extrapolate her comments to be about a group of people (the dev team or artists), but even then it's pretty abstract.

They are incredibly simplistic insults that change based upon the gender of the person in question. (Mental or physical, usually physical because it is recognizable from a distance.) They are insults that people use when they don't know anything about the person in question.

"Bastard" isn't a gender-specific term.

and "sexism" is when your views/actions "change based upon the gender of the person in question". whether that's EVER an acceptable distinction (organized sports, physical tasks, etc) is grounds for a reasonable discussion, but when someone cries that "her being a girl has nothing to do with it" when people are calling her a cunt and, more importantly, an attention whore... that's some impressive delusion at work.

but hey: i'll cede expertise on this kind of venom to everybody else if i have to. i try not to call people names these days, so i'm a bit rustier on the subject than some of you fine forum folks. maybe by the time you're at the ripe old age of 22 like me, you'll have gotten sick of internet mudslinging.

also, let's take a moment to appreciate the hypocrisy of criticizing someone for criticizing something.

attacking a PERSON for disliking-- fine, disrespecting-- a THING.

but whatever. it wouldn't be young, privileged men on the internet if it wasn't chest-beating over whose opinions are welcome!

also, pronouns suck. they're the worst part of the english language. the gendered personal pronouns we (and most other languages) have are incredibly harmful to our psyches. they box everybody up into Male/Female dichotomies.

if you have genderqueer friends, you know what i mean.
