Dragon Age 2 quick look reactions...

I don't know how people can say the art style in DA2 looks any better then DA:O. I will wait till the game comes out but it looks worse as of now.
Giant Bomb has too many console gamers I think... Cause I see a lot of comments about how the controls look better and coming from the PC version which was the best of the three the controls look HORRRRRRRRIBLE.

I hope DA2 ends up being great because DA:O was one of the best games I have ever played and I would easily give it a 100/100. I never played a single player game for so long and enjoyed it so much. Ugh, I hope that DA2 quick look was just a bad first impression and not a real representation of the final product.

They said it was 360. The PC will control different. Thats something some PC gamers can not get though their heads. Chances are it will control just like the last one did for PC.

And "Best Version" Depends on your views. Unless your talking about bayonetta or FF13. Where the game has massive issues on a single system for some reason.

@Gabriel: Yea and it looked like crap.

@The_Laughing_Man: Nah, he said that the controls will be similar to the first DA:O, which imo was perfect, but he said something about changing the way rouges stab so that it is automated. I don't like the sound of that.

And DA:O for the PC was the best version. Not that the giantbomb crew is the ultimate final decider's of truth (or are they) but I think all of them said it was best played on the PC. That game is a PC game.

We will see when it comes out but I notice you didn't say anything about the art style? Because imo it looks like SHIT so far. And that duder said in the QL that they were just optimizing and stuff now which is not reassuring.

He said there was a skill to appear behind the baddie. There was a skill in the first as well.  He also did not fully state" You will auto be behind the guy" You are making large jumps on little info.

Well it was the "Best" one for me. I did not have a PC that could run it so the PS3 was the "Best" for me.

I will now be ending my typing here. I do not want to fight over what is or is not there. This is my view and it is not wrong. That is your view and it is not wrong. You think it looks like crap. I think it looks fine.

I love the PC version myself. My only main concerns is model and environment detail, and the character hud. Besides that, combat looks decent.

I didn't think the art style in the first game was anything worth bragging about, they've pushed the stylization a bit further in this one so that the fidelity of their engine is a bit less noticeable. I think it looks fine, especially over DA:O.

@Axxol: Not if there is even a hint of dumbing down for console versions. Last time they did DA:O right and made the controls good for each platform.
@The_Laughing_Man:  I am speculating just like you are. I haven't said I won't be buying the game. But I am pointing out things that could be a problem in the future. I also notice a lot of console tards are praising the new button mashing options of this game. It looks like a third person slasher with optional pause. The PC better not have a hint of this or it is a failure. I think Dave would agree with me (even though I liked ME2).

And it is basically fact that the PC was better for graphics and controls of DA:O.
@Zippedbinders: Idk what people are talking about, the art style of DA:O was perfect for me. This new foggy white blood vein wall shit kinda looks retarded though.

I agree. At least we don't have to see bioware trying to go realistic and make ugly people with plasticky faces... It's not "cartoony" either, it's just kinda Japanese in the way everyone is hot and sexy.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Get your head out of your ass and stop criticizing people who weren't able to play the "best" version of the game.

While I do love the PC control scheme the most, I wouldn't mind being able to play this on my big ass tv on my couch with a 360 controller when I don't want to hunch over my mouse and keyboard. Two Worlds II supports the 360 controller with the entirety of the 360 UI (switches back to your typical hot bar PC set up when you go with mouse and keys) on the PC version, so I don't see why Bioware can't do it.

I will get the PC version. Also the visuals worry me, because it looks markedly worse so far. Perhaps the PC version will look better in addition to play better. I got this sick ass new video card that I want to put to the test.

Looked great, I know it wasn't showing PC combat but there was a video a while back showing it was still pretty much the same with a few tweeks for the improvements they have made. Anything that improves melee rogues is great because trying to engage combat with one in DA:O was a fucking chore, especially if you wanted to stealth and backstab.

The new UI looks great, I'm currently playing through DA:O and I think people are forgetting what clunky piece of shit the UI and menu system actually was. The new talent tree looks great, lots more options and chance for variation but then again no one is talking about that because it's a positive thing and people only like to bitch and moan.

Kinda wish they just kept a traditional conversation system.    Or straight up copy alpha protocol's system with a countdown timer, instead of basically having the same Mass Effect system.

From what I've gathered, the PC version will control pretty much exactly like DA:O, but you can't zoom out as far and there are a few less skills.
I don't see why people complain about them making the console controls better, when the PC version essentially controls like it always did.
I haven't played the game, though, so I could be completely wrong about all this, but I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Like the guys were saying in the bombcast, DA:O's art was as generic and uninspired as they come. It was just LOTR with really stiff animation and shoddy looking faces.(With the odd exception of Morrigan.) DAII looks like the cover art of a heavy metal record, nuff said.

That QuickLook totally sold me (well I pre-ordered anyway). I played DA:O on the PC and will continue with DAII. Another trailer (DAII website, not here) already showed that the combat of the PC-version will largely the same like DA:O, only the angle in the "top-down" will not be as steep. But you can still pause the game. There is auto-attack. Still you can "program" your guys etc. My only real concern the was that in ME2 (which I love) the conversation wheel did not really worked perfectly ("Hey, thats totally not what I wanted to say."). But they improved on this in DAII by adding this little icons. That really was my only concern. I do not mind the art style. UI is ok too ... minimalist.

Combat seems fine, but I think this game lives or dies with his story and characters. And the quick look is definitely no indication of what the game is gonna be in that department.

So still wait and see for me.

Well, to be fair, the PC version was widely considered superior in Dragon Age's case. Not only are mouse and keyboard a better fit for the style, but the textures and framerate on console versions were pretty awful.

I actually more worried about what Brad said on the bombcast how the levels looked too linear like ME2. I don't like how they turned the combat into Hack N' Slash but I guess the pause n' play still there. it just seems like they are removing many features I loved about the first one. I just don't know about BioWare anymore. Seems like they are moving into the more action hackie slashie RPG then the games that made them what they are.

Looked kinda bad TBH but I realize that is the console version in action mode. The Combat video from a few months ago that showed the PC controls I thought retained most of the Dragon Age feel. The more I think about it, I think this game could be successful if it can please both the casual and the original DA fans. My concern is how good can the game optimized for both playstyles. For example, is the game balanced properly with the pause gameplay in mind or is it just tacked back on causing uneven difficulty and brokeness.

The game looks half-finished to me. The characters look ALRIGHT, but the environments look completely bland. It reminds me of what Dragon Age would look like if it was made 10 years ago when the technology to fully realize that world hadn't been made yet.

Disagree. Those two franchises need to stay apart from each other. Mixing them up would make sure the identity of both would be compromised. I can't really see how a dungeon crawler would work if they are going to have the extremely linearity of ME2 level design.

Well Origin's level desing is linear, not as linear as ME2 but still. Even most complex levels have like 3-4 routes and they usually lead in a same place or are dead ends.

Perhaps what they mean is that backstab will be something that you don't have to slot a combat tactic for.  Which would be nice because there are already too many abilities based off backstab, that backstab SHOULD be automated.  Personally I prefer the game on PC (have on both PC and console) though I definitely saw the draw on it on console.  In fact, my kid just started playing and I suggested she go with the console version because it was probably dumbed down a little more and might be a bit easier for her to pick up.

Oh great here we go again .... chill the fuck out dudes , this is going to be an awesome game just like DA:O , and the only mass effect thing is the conversation wheel "Oh no doom is coming , wah wah wah ..." (Mass Effect rules BTW), in consoles you cant have the skills on the bottom screen because how can you access them huh? Please enlight us with you all mighty knowledge of videogame programing. Also the art style is awesome , but granted this is more to individual taste. The levels in DA where always linear , dont kid yourselves and also a small dungeon is not representative of the whole damn game D: !!!!! Heck was the deep roads nothing but linear corridors most of the time? Seriously you guys are crazy and just nitpick stupid things.

I really think the bigger problem with video games and children is that they get obsessed and can't manage time as well. That is the danger. When they have video games at such a high priority or enjoy them so much that they ignore school work and real life. I sort of had that problem.
Violence and stuff... meh in a few years they will be so used to it they won't even notice it in media.
DA:O is a 60 hour game I would say. I think I spent about that much time on the first play through. So don't let her get obsessed and she will be fine.

But anyways, she should play it on the PC. You are robbing her of the better experience! lol (sort of jk).
