1. Dust: An Elysian Tail
The reason I picked this game as my game of the year was because the game play was pretty much flawless. While some had trouble with the character designs, I think it all fitted in with the design and story. Added to the fact it was mostly completed by a single person was just the cherry on the top.
2. Diablo III
This game was highly anticipated by many people. I wasn't really one of them. I had played Diablo 2 many years ago and though I enjoyed it, I never saw the attraction of playing it on multiple difficulties. That said I finally saw it once i had played this game. I even tried multiple character types and enjoyed all of them but my heart belongs to a female monk.
3. Borderlands 2
I played a lot of the first borderlands game, No i played way to much of the first borderlands game and this was more of the same and I was happy to part with my money. The fact that I didn't enjoy it as much as the first game stopped me from giving it the no.1 spot.
4. Torchlight II
The line about the difference between this and diablo 3 being $40 is a good analogy though not entirely true. The things I liked about this is the freedom the designers give the player. I opened up the command line option and have had some great fun with it.
I think the title sums it up perfectly it was a journey. A short and sweet one at that. The interaction you had with other players was perfect in every way.
6. London 2012 - The Official Video Game of the Olympic Games
OK so being born and raised in London probably made me a little biased towards this game but I haven't had this much fun with a sports game since hyper sports or decathlon. Simply, nice pick up and play fun.
7. Forza Horizon
This game had almost everything I wanted from a driving game. The almost is the reason why it is at no.7. It was great fun until I got to the R class races. I just felt that these high performance cars were not a great match in the open world environment. I understand why they where in there but I distracted from my experience
8. Gotham City Impostors
I had many fun hours playing this game and think it is the most fun I have ever had with an online shooter. It was something different and the tone was just right.
9. Call of Duty: Black Ops II
I feel strange putting this game in the list but I did for a couple of reasons. Firstly this is the first Call of duty game I had fun with online. Even if it was only for a few days until the people who play a lot of these games ment I had to retire. However there was one thing that saved it from the trade-in pile. The local play against bots. Any time I want, I can jump in a game run around and have a laugh. That's why this game is in my top ten
10. Far Cry 3
Now I have only spent a few days with this game but I had to have a place for it in the top ten. the open world in this game is fantastic. The stories you hear from other gamer's are brilliant. This is one of those games that everyone will have a story about and everyone's story will be different. When you see two AI characters off in the distance get out of a jeep, then watch one get back in the jeep and run the other over you know you have something special. I only wish I had more time with this game, am sure it would have ranked higher.
