good interview, I look forward to The Witness. Seems like this game has been gestating for a considerable amount of time, hopefully that is indicative of its quality.
somehow I don't see them pulling any kind of gimmick this time around. Microsoft's Kinect has fizzled out and when's the last time you've heard about Playstation Move. The gamepad idea didn't help the WiiU take off, motion controls are in the past, and having some sort of dual console/mobile device doesn't make much sense since they've already announced they are going into the mobile space for existing platforms. Maybe just make a traditional console with great hardware and focus on improving their network services. If they plan on making another dedicated handheld maybe that's their "third pillar" this time around to fall back on if something goes awry with either their console or mobile efforts.
In terms of launch date, wouldn't surprise me at all if they release this next holiday season. That's enough time for publishers to port some of their existing PS4 and Xbox One games to hit the launch window with first round of original titles coming in 2017. Meanwhile Zelda WiiU is released on both systems for launch much like when the Wii launched with Twilight princess. Why the accelerated schedule? Cuz the WiiU is their poorest performing home console in the company's history..
