Commitment has never been my forte

Gaming has taken a back seat as school has dragged on. With friends taking up a majority of the rest of my free time it seems like there isn't any time left for gaming. All of my friends are getting Gears 2 and it just makes me want that game even more. I just hope I get to it before all my friends get tired of it. This was the case of Call of Duty 4. Once I got to it everyone was tired of it and had moved on. Gears 2 is the only thing that is really catching my eye this year. For me personally last year had alot more games that I wanted to play. This year has alot of great games but not many that I personally play. I'm gonna try blogging more often due to the fact that school seems to be slowing down but I make no promises.

I hate the fact that it seems like there is not to active of a scene at GiantBomb anymore. Even when posting to the forums there is not the massive amount of activity there was back when the site launched. I hope that eventually people will return and stay but who knows.

Penny Arcade Episode 2 Verdict

Running, Running, Running!
Running, Running, Running!
Penny Arcade Episode 2 is the continuation of the adventure game series by the writers of the Penny Arcade comic and Hot Head games. Episode 1 was a mediocre Adventure/RPG hybrid. The majority of the game was spent finding random maguffins in order to advance the story. The combat has your cast of heroes taking turns defeating an array of foes in typical RPG fashion. Both of these parts put together are not very interesting but that’s not what I noticed about the game.

For me the game was less of a game and more of an interactive comic adventure featuring Gabe and Tycho from the comic. In these terms this game was a huge success. The unique humor of the web comic translates extremely well into videogame form. Any text in the game has been subject of Penny Arcade’s unique writing style and had me laughing out loud from time to time; Which is extremely rare for me. The other aspect that separates this game from others like it is the art style. It should come to no surprise to readers of the comic that the 2D cut scenes are just like those you would read on the site. The 3D environments are also impressive; While each area is unique and full of details, there are not too many areas. The few areas in this game become somewhat tiring after you have been forced to go through again and again for the sake of advancing the story.

This game does nothing to revolutionize RPG’s or bring back the adventure genre. So for those who are looking for groundbreaking game play mechanics, I’m sorry to say that there is none of that to be found in this game. However, this game does a superb job of channeling the unique style of Penny Arcade into video game form. If you are a fan of Penny Arcade then there is a lot to enjoy, however if you are not you might end up feeling like you didn’t get your moneys worth.

I have not done this in so long,

First time in a long time.
First time in a long time.
For the first time in over a year I have picked up my DS and played a game on it. I went to the local Best Buy recently and picked up Final Fantasy Tactics A2. I was a big fan of the previous game on the GBA. However I can't help but notice that the game is basically the exact same. The units, attacks, animations, and even the story is not just a throwback to the original. Its basically the same game. That's not a bad thing because the original was fantastic but with it being so similar it makes it hard to make me want to play. It just feels like a chore, starting everything over without my bad ass crew that took me so long to build up. I'll keep to going through but so far I can't stop thinking about how the game is basically the same game but now for the DS.

Also, I'm getting my 360 back tonight. Rock Band 2 and Call of Duty 4 are my top priorities. Can't wait.

Why can't someone make this a game?

On Halloween night me and my friends went extreme scootering. I'll admit that it sounds dumb and that we were trapped in the year 2001 but it totally gave me an idea. All night long we bombed down these really steep hills. The rush of going so fast and the wind smacking you on the face, while feeling like you are barely in control. It just gave me a rush that no game has even come close to replicating. I wonder why no one is able the replicate the sheer joy of just going extremly fast and feeling extreme.

On the Halloween topic, me being 16 it felt really weird to go around and get candy. So I skipped the whole candy thing. I did pick up some Starbursts along the way but other than that I skipped the whole candy affair. It just brings to mind how much time has passed for me. The good old days of being a power ranger and getting candy are long gone for me.

That certainly says something,

Yesterday I made the biggest mistake ever; I assumed for a split second that mentioning girl troubles on a video game forum could spark some decent and logical discussion. Bad move. It just makes me think that the internet is full of dumb, immature, undersexed dudes. I know totally understand why the term "gamer" has such a bad connotation. It saddens me to have to realize that the assumption is well founded.

What's more sad is to realize that these are people my age who are going to run the world at some point. It worries me to no end. For some reason more people would rather see a nut tapping montage on YouTube than read someone else's thoughtful blog. Meaningful stories are drown out by a sea of crap.

*Sigh of discontent*

I wish I were cool,

Because if that were the case then I would not have this horrific feeling plaguing me. I use to talk to this girl back in middle school, she pretty, had a nice personality, and overall had some chemistry. Then I went to high school and she remained at the middle school. Now I'm a sophomore and she's a freshman. Man, she has gotten alot hotter in one year. Sadly, being in different years means that the most I ever see of her is glances in the hallway. If only I had the opportunity to talk to her.

If I were a truly confident person I would stop her in the middle of the hallway, halt all oncoming traffic, and ask if she wants to go on a date. Sadly I don't have the bravado or the insanity to do such a thing. This feeling is just eating me up inside, if only I knew what to do. I can't stop thinking about her, and more so, the fact that I can't even attempt to talk to her.

I have been thinking about this for a couple days now but still have no solution. It is frequently a subject running through my mind. If only I knew what to do.

Status Report

Not much has changed since my 360 got shipped off, I have gone out with friends more often and done more stuff at school but not much different. I do admit that it sucks that I can't play any of the many releases that are coming out now. Hopefully I will get my 360 back by the time winter break comes up so I can play some Gears 2 online. That is the one game thats a must have for me. I have a short list of games that are must haves for me. Besides Gears its, Dead Space and Mirrors Edge. I also really want Fallout 3 but that can wait till the summer when I got nothing else to do.

While I wasn't playing games I watched a couple of my movies. Here's my brief thoughts on each:

  • Rambo
Rambo is a shallow war movie that delivered exactly what I expected. Stallone's character has retreated to the jungles of Vietnam in order to try   and escape the horrors of war. For the first part he is an empathetic character who just wants to live in peace and never kill again. However that doesn't last for long because his life is put in danger. Then both his character and the movie break down into a generic war film; complete with flying limbs and explosions. As long as you put your expectations appropriately low then you can enjoy this movie.

  • Event Horizon
When doing some research about Dead Space I heard that alot of inspiration was drawn from this movie. Throughout the movie I noticed the striking similarity between this and Dead Space. I really enjoyed the look of the ships and the technology in that movie. It kind of reminded me of the dirty future look that The Matrix did so well. While the sci-fi story seemed rather boiler plate I went along with no issue. However then it declined into a sub-par horror film that left me disappointed with the whole movie.

Where will it end?

Seriously?
Seriously?
I will admit without any shame that I bought the Halo 3 cat helmet for $130. However, that taught me that buying extravagant items like this with a game is usually not worth the crazy price of entry. I thought this helmet was crazy but now they are selling this thing. I thought this thing was rad for about two seconds then figured out that there was nothing to do with this thing besides look like a dork with a fake gun. With this it makes me wonder where pre orders will go? And whether or not I will ever get one of these things. I think that pre-ordering things for special items is not worth it. How do you feel on this issue?

Everything is falling apart!

It was only a matter or time.
It was only a matter or time.
So today I played some Rock Band 2 with my friends. My friend John is an exceptional drummer and is a beast at drums. However he has a bad habbit of thrashing down really hard on my pedal. Today he broke my pedal clean in half.
However that isn't what took the cake, after my friends left I went to play some Call of Duty 4. Then guess what happened. Yep, Red Ring. My poor 360 didn't even make it a year and it had already died. All my friends have gone through the affair and now its my turn. Its a bummer. It was good while it lasted. Well, Im gonna go place an order for my coffin.

Bye!
