Don't answer if you actually haven't played the PC version or have seen someone play it first-hand, because I'm not talking about achievements linked to X-box accounts or Games for Windows Live games. I realize that function isn't included.
I'm basically asking if there is any type of in-game achievements (like Spore, Dragon Age: Origins, etc.) So? Anyone know?
people play for achievements and trophies because it's just human nature to want to gather the most points. people like to compete. plus, playing games is fun. so, its win, win, win in my book.
I'm going to be honest, I am a dead broke teenager and Christmas is the only real time of year where I can get my video gamin' on. I don't want to ask for too much from my parents, since they are getting me a fairly large present already, but I do want to ask for 1 or 2 games to tie me over until I save up some money.
As you all know, there has been a hella lot of good games coming out recently, and I basically need to see what you all think is the best 1 or 2 of them(excluding MW2, I did already find the money for that). Keep in mind, I do not own a PS3, so the real contest right now would have to be between Borderlands, Assassin's Creed 2, Left 4 Dead 2, New Super Mario Bros. Wii(surprised at how good that actually looks), and Dragon Age: Origins; though Brutal Legend doesn't look all that bad either. So, basically, out of those 6 games, which 2 are your favorite? Which do you think will give me the most amount of satisfaction over the most amount of time?
As of now, I'm kind of leaning towards Borderlands and L4D2.
" @dlowe05: even though you got 75% of those achievements on your first playthrough, and the ones that didnt just required grinding? "
you're taking a stereotype from a few select games. believe it or not, not every game requires grinding to get all the achievements. they require doing something challenging. and the games that do require grinding, like dead space, borderlands, fallout 3, and other level-based games are usually fun anyway. it just comes down to if you like the game or not. if you do, then you probably will like the achievements. if not, then try a different game that is more your style. not every game has bland achievements, they're normally fun.
" @heron_noleto: do you think i care that the gb staff cares about points? doesnt make them any less of a waste of time.
points are there to make it fun to compare how good you are at games with your friends. then again, with that attitude, you probably don't have too many friends any way. so sure, go on hating people with friends. jealousy is an ugly thing, my friend. what? "
except that those stupid-arse points dont measure how good you are at games. you can usually get over half of the games achiviements through just playing through them normally, and all the other ones are almost never hard to get. they just require grinding. not to mention, you get more points the more games you play. so if you suck to much to get the few achievements that require skill, you can make up for it through doing a bunch of other achievements. if all achievements where awesome and challenging id understand the appeal of it, but thats not the case. "
you don't get the point. achievements are fun because you want to push yourself to 100% a game by getting all of the achievements, and then comparing how many games you've have a 100% in with your friends. honestly, and this kinda contradicts my first comment, but the overall gamer score doesn't really matter to me, but it does for some people. its how well i've played those games that is important to me. and the satisfaction that you get when the last achievement for a game pops up and you know you've gotten 100% is amazing.
