Infinite Wealth. Limited Time 0

Reviewed on PC. 65 hours played. I'm going to call this game IW and Yakuza 7: Like a Dragon YLAD to try to keep the titles from being confusing. You can tell me how successful that is. The Judgement series and this game's predecessor do pose a question that maybe needed answering but is hesitantly never addressed: Is there such a thing as too much Kiryu? Can you hold this series back by constantly featuring him? In Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth you might be asking those questions but not in an...

Like a Dragon Gaiden: Sideshow Kaz 1

I'd tell him to never change, but he doesn't.Reviewed on PC. Time to completion: 15 Hours. What starts with a few experiments on tried and true formulas doesn't end up anywhere all that unique, but that's ok. But as a result, the game itself is only OK.Like a Dragon Gaiden is not meant to be your first Yakuza game. It's also very clearly not meant to be your last Yakuza game. The experience is very much reserved for up to date players, and only reaches out boldly in ways you'd have to already be ...

Honing the Difficulty Curve to Perfection 4

Rogue Legacy 1 was the game that taught me that masochistic side-scrolling action adventure wasn't for me anymore. I wasn't new to it, kid me ate Circle of the Moon for lunch. But it just wasn't with how angry and frustrated I ended up getting playing it then. What does one of these games always need? The feeling of RNG granted ultimate power, of course. Now, that's not in any way intended to diminish what I thought of the game's design. Sure, there was not a great amount on offer not directly or ...

Concentrated virtual idiocy, and also, some cards. 1

Smoked meats. It's 2:37 AM and I am more than a little intoxicated. A very grumbly Austrian man is throwing a laser shield around like Captain America on the rooftop suite of a near future Macao casino. He grows increasingly frustrated with my fellow American compatriot who is flying a small drone around instead of looking at his cards. An aggressive 4-bet is thrown into the pile of chips in the middle in order to illicit a reaction, while the occasional floor-triggering sound effects of "Demon ...

Yakuza 6 PC: Practice doesn't make perfect, but it's close. 0

Played at medium difficulty on a Ryzen 7 5800x, GeForce 1080, fairly fast SSD and 32gb of RAM. I have not yet befriended this cat that looks like my cat. Soon.I came into playing the Yakuza 6: Song of Life release on PC after trying to go back through the releases of 3-5 on PC, and very quickly learned a few things, as someone who came to the series at Yakuza 0. With the flood of Yakuza releases lately, I'm going to try to be a little succinct at what this game fleshes out over the others; the u...

Ichiban's my guy. I'm not sure he'll be yours. 1

Kasuga's a beggar, but he's no chooser, that's for sure.Reviewed on PC, 6700k/1080. 55 hours played, main story and 90-95% of Substories complete. One alternate job leveled. Before I get into the game itself know these things: I'm not a JRPG person though I don't dislike them, have never really been one, and am an absolute sucker for a "local bastard does good" crime story. If you're in the same boat as me, you'll probably dig Like a Dragon. If you're a seasoned JRPG veteran, are looking for thema...

Pokemon Sword: A bit dull. 0

Cutting the roster isn't what leaves this game feeling incomplete.(Progress: Main Story complete.)When Pokemon Sun and Moon hit, the number one thing that stood out to me was the translation of the anime's charm and expressiveness to a 3D environment. Pokemon Sword and Shield seems to have taken that concept and dropped the ball. What starts out as a promising look into Galar's unique western scenery and monster design doesn't hold up throughout the course of the game and at times, can leave you...
