  • Thanks for that, dudes. Leipzig coverage this year has been pretty shoddy ... outside of Germany that is.Keep all that news-type stuff coming. As an aside, I'd like to see Jeff and Brad finally just have it out, 360 vs. PS3 fanboy styles. You KNOW they do it off camera. Why not share the love?

It's first and foremost a puzzle game. Platformer second. But I don't believe your boss played any bit more than the demo, and even then I don't think he got anything more than three easy pieces of the puzzle. IF that.

  • Well, let's hope they get reality perfect soon. I'm sick of seeing them try. And I want them to get back to stylishness.

  • dQuarters replied to the topic The Stars *spoilers* in the Braid board.
When I heard about the stars, I was like "Sweet. More puzzlin!" I'm pretty proud that I didn't cheat on the main puzzles, so I figured I give finding the stars on my own a go. And after searching through a few worlds ... NOTHING. Not even a clue. I don't know who these people are that figure this crap out by themselves. But I should probably be glad my ...

I honestly felt some fairly strong empathy for the dude while reading his review of Ghostbusters: The Video Game, and the comments on it's page that followed, mostly written by true fans of both films and the game. It garnered an empathetic reaction for Ryan, and to a lesser extent video game reviewers in general.
I'm not sure I even want Ryan reading this, 'cause he'd probably think I'm both wrong a ridiculous for this blog. But if he does; thanks, Ryan! Somedays I want to wring your neck for your snarky cynicism, but that's not today ... probably Tuesday.

What sparked this were the comments below the review more than the review itself. I realized clearly, through the passionate and fanboyish (not meant derogatorily) responses to reading Ryan's review, that Ryan himself didn't have the luxury of sitting back with this one and enjoying it as a fan like the rest did. I knew that about reviewers in general already. But this one's different, as Ryan is just as passionate and fanboyish as the commenters (or more so) when usually discussing the Ghostbusters, as made apparent in many an article or Bombcast.

I just want to say that it's a fucking shame that he reviewed this game. If I were him, I'd have been completely selfish and said "Not reviewing it. Screw that noise, son. I want to REALLY play with my brand new toy this time." I don't know why he didn't say that, or if he (for some retarded reason) wanted to review this. But I genuinely respect him as a journalist and reviewer even more because of it, even if I think he made a clumsy mistake by doing so.
"Hello, inner-child!"
"Hello, inner-child!"

If I want to geek out and enjoy my authentic, hand-delivered fan-service then no way can I stay objective and offer a fair disclosure of value to the masses. I want to grin like a drooling idiot in my favourite childhood pajamas (I don't actually do that, but picturing Ryan doing so is hilarious) eating a Pac Man ice cream (w/ Gumball) while playing or watching what once made me so ecstatic as it's resurrected for a new generation. I certainly don't want to think about all the mood-killing crap reviewers have to think about while playing any other game.
But fair disclosure of value is what we got in the review. Ryan, of course, has to speak to every potential consumer, not just fans of the films. And I'm positive that he was a little extra aware of that fact in this particular review. He gave this game three stars, and you just know in your heart he's gotta another star (or two) in there somewhere.

Maybe he and all reviewers with his seniority in this field simply cannot shut the inner-reviewer up and enjoy games like most other people. Maybe he'd feel the exact same as his review dictates either way. But I felt genuinely sad for Ryan today knowing he didn't even give himself the chance.
I'm likely overblowing this, as I tend to do to stuffs. But I don't like many things as much as Ryan seems to Ghostbusters. And the ones I do, I could give a fuck less what anyone else thinks about it, let alone purposefully delving into the mindset of other people while I digest it for the first time.

Commendably stupid, Ryan. Thanks!
