Birthday Blog and Indecision

So yeah, today is my birthday and I just got $200 from my parents and I'm stoked but I have no idea what to buy... I've got some money that I've been saving up to maybe get a PS3 but I also need to get a laptop and I really want a decent HDTV so I really don't know what to do here (suggestions?). My sister also got me about 50 movies so I've been watching like 2 a day for the past week. My favorites so far have been Waking Life and Science of Sleep but there's still a lot of great looking movies left.

Star Trek was awesome.

Anyway, I haven't played anything besides Zeno Clash in like 2 weeks and I haven't touched my 360 in even longer. I really need to get some good suggestions for games because nothing right now looks worth it. Not that I have enough time to play anything anyway, It's exam mode at my school for the next two weeks and it's getting pretty rough. Well, when Summer vacation comes around I'll have plenty of games to choose from but for now I guess the well's dry.

GI Joe Resolute. Awesome.

So I just saw an episode of GI Joe: Resolute and I was definitely not disappointed. The badassery was kicked up a notch (especially with Snake Eyes) while the basic original GI Joe design was kept mostly intact. The mini episodes are only five minutes long with a ten minute finale but I think it gets the job done. The thing that truly won me over was just how serious, dark, and violent the series will be; also, Warren Ellis is the writer!

The only thing that was weird to me was the voices but I'll get used to them. The animation style is akin to that of either the Boondocks or Ghost In the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, I couldn't really put my finger on it. Either way, the episode that I saw was awesome and the series looks promising and I'm pretty sure that the first three episodes are up on Youtube so check them out!

Used Games

To a degree, used games could be seen as problematic to a developer. The people who buy the used games are not having their money get through to the developer and as such they lose potential sales.

Are used game sales good for consumers? Of course! Why buy a new game for $60 when you could get the same one $10 off?

The retail companies are really the only true winners here though, buy the game from a person for $25 and sell it back for pure profit.

Conker's Bad Fur Day

I absolutely loved Conker and that game was hilarious. Of course, I haven't played a funny game in a while so I can't remember any others.

Good Movie + New Phone!

So, Christmas vacation is here and it's getting pretty hectic with all of the last minute gift buying. I just got myself an awesome new phone (the HTC Touch Pro)! It is just fantastic, TouchFLO 3D is probably one of the coolest and most visually appealing user interfaces I've found on any phone and it feels much more polished when compared to the original version on the Touch Diamond. The camera is really nice as well (3.2 Mp but it doesn't work too well in dim areas).

Crappy sample picture but oh well.
Crappy sample picture but oh well.

It sports a 2.8 inch screen with 640 x 480 resolution which makes things like watching videos and surfing the web (Opera Mobile is the default web browser, but I tend to use Skyfire a lot more) great experiences. The full QWERTY keyboard is a great addition to separate it from the Touch Diamond. The Touch Pro is also one of the best Windows Mobile phones. Windows Mobile 6.1 works perfectly and its friendly and I do like the option of having all of my GBA games on my phone (mobile emulators work quite well, even SNES works at about 25 fps) without going having to jump through any hoops. I don't really see many downsides to it.
A while ago I watched this amazing movie. I'm not sure how many people have heard of it. It's called Let the Right One In. It's an AMAZING vampire movie and it pisses me off how many people overlooked this movie and flocked to Twilight. It was absolutely one of the best movies I've seen all year. It's a great love/horror/coming-of-age story that focuses around two twelve year old children. The boy, Oskar, falls in love with the girl/vampire, Eli. The interesting thing is that you never see Eli's fangs, there is quite a bit of blood and violence in the movie though. Just go and watch it whenever you get the chance! That's all you need to know. I'm currently trying to get my hands on the novel.
Other than that, the only other news is that I'm leaving to Vermont tomorrow for christmas with my cousins. Gonna do some snowboarding, snowmobiling, mountain climbing and all that. I'll probably read Atlas Shrugged while I'm up there as well. It's gonna suck being away from my computer for so long but I think I can last.

Threadbombing + Seven Pounds.

Alright, I've tried to make this bigger but it hasn't worked so far, so just head over to Threadbombing.com
and check out the icon for their tab if you feel like it.

They just looked similar to me.
Anyway, in real news (I guess),  I'm going to a red carpet event for Seven Pounds on Thursday. I'm pretty pumped. Will Smith's gonna be there and a couple of athletes and politicians (why in Ohio? I don't know). I should probably think of some questions to ask or something but yeah, it's gonna be awesome.

Don't really care.

The only part of Starcraft I ever got into was the multiplayer. If they carried over everything that made the multiplayer game great into the second one, then I'm perfectly fine with having more than one retail box.

I have returned

Blog Title courtesy of the Protoss Dragoon. Long time since my last blog... Long, long time. Amazingly, not much has happened besides school eating my life. I recently acquired all of my friends Nintedo64 games: Wave Race, Starfox, Banjo-Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie, Bomberman 64 and Bomberman Hero, Castlevania, Chameleon Twists 1 and 2, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Dark Rift, Diddy Kong Racing, Donkey Kong 64, Duke Nukem 64, Extreme-G and Extreme-G XG2 (or maybe its just called Extreme-G 2), Glover, Jet Force Gemini, Rampage World Tour, and Vigilante 8. Needless to say, I was in awe when he dumped these on me (idiot). I did own a lot of these games at one point in my life, but I either lost them, they stopped working, or I gave them to my cousins or something. I've since started playing Banjo Kazooie and letting the nostalgia take over. I also got Crysis Warhead (which was pretty good), Spore (which I thought was fantastic), and I went old school and installed Marathon. The future for me looks grim in terms of finance. The only game I've been sure about and reserved so far is Gears 2. I'm pretty sure I'll be getting Dead Space, Fallout 3, and Far Cry 2 though. So, hooray for being broke? Hmm... Music... I was beginning to miss structured rhyme schemes so I started listening to some rap a la Immortal Technique (Amazing), Necro (Bury You With Satan has a sick beat but I'm pretty sure that his music isn't for everyone), and the such. I also got into Parkway Drive and Diecast thanks to Pandora Radio. All this along with All That Remains' new album: Overcome, which turned out pretty decent, kept me occupied for a pretty long time. One last thing! I saw Religulous recently and I thought it was a great movie. I wrote a short (around 350 word) review for my school newspaper:

Religulous is a hilarious and equally offensive documentary conceived by the great comedian Bill Maher and the director of Borat, Larry Charles. The first thing that should be noted is that Religulous does not attempt to turn people away from their religions but it does try to get people to ask questions. That being said, even if you do not want to hear what Bill Maher has to say about your beliefs, you can still watch the film as a comedy. Although it seems like Maher is attacking religion, he stated that he doesn’t know what happens to us when we die and neither do any of the other religions, but he does believe that there may be something out there that we will never be able to comprehend.

Bill Maher pokes fun at a good many religions ranging from Catholicism to Islam, and even to some way-out-there religions like Cantheism (religion based around cannabis) and Scientology. Many of the targets that Maher chooses tend to walk themselves into corners without his help. One such scene occurs when Maher is speaking to the Senator of Arkansas (who believes in creationism) and states “It worries me that people are running my country who believe in a talking snake,” to which the Senator replies “You don't have to pass an IQ test to be in the senate though.” In between discussions, footage of Maher reflecting on his encounter is shown to give a break from the documentary and hear what he has to say, not to mention most of them will have the whole theater laughing.

The end of the documentary leaves all of the humor behind as Maher finally gives his honest opinion about religion. The whole point of this documentary that Maher really wants to get across is focused on the 16% of people in the that he calls “rationalists” (we would know them as atheists. They number more than the African American, Jewish, and homosexual populations). He wants those rationalists to stand up and have their voices heard.

Rated R for language, brief nudity, and drug use.

So, it kind of sucks that my school limited me to 350 words but I tried to make it work... Short review even shorter: It really is a great movie and if it is still showing anywhere near you, you should go ahead and watch it.
I suppose that that's all I have to say for now. See you in another two months. /joke?

Tropic Thunder

This movie looks hilarious and I can't wait to go out to see it. I'm writing a review on it in my school newspaper and I got invited to a preview screening tonight at 7:30! Wooo!
