One Hundred of my favorite games

List items

  • A childhood favorite which I still enjoy today, there's not much to say that hasn't already been said.

  • A great end to the Solid Snake saga.

  • A beautiful and haunting game that is truly though provoking.

  • Quite simply the best fighting game to come out since SF2 Super Turbo.

  • The game that convinced me to buy into this current console generation, a great RPG that never lacks for content.

  • While it's really just a Mario 64 clone my childhood has fond memories of this game.

  • One of the most influential games of all time, that first painting is still one of my favorite levels ever.

  • A great old school, hardcore, evil, frustrating, and charming 2d platformer.

  • An awesome 3rd person shooter that innovated the genre in a lot of ways.

  • The first and best reason to get an xbox, Halo innovated the genre in so many ways it's hard to count. The single player and co-op is still some of the most fun I've had in a game.

  • In my opinion, Rockstars best work to date with great story, characters, and atmosphere, a strong contender for best game of this year.

  • A game that caused me to skip class three days straight says a lot. This game is such a huge improvement over the first game in every way possible.

  • While not the deepest fighter, BlazBlue is a great looking game that's easy to get into and at least has some good character diversity.

  • While I actually didn't catch the CoD multiplayer bug until MW2 the single player alone justifies a purchase of this game.

  • The single player in this is absolutely phenomenal but I'd be lying if I didn't say that most of my time playing this game was spent on DoTA. Even besides DoTA the custom maps were really great in this game.

  • A truly great Metal Gear title, MGS3 has a great story and introduces some of the best characters in the series.

  • The second game I ever played, I really have no idea how well this game holds up but I remember loving it and can still remember most of the missions.

  • Mario Kart 64 is my definitive Mario Kart experience and always will be. The game holds up pretty well to play with friends and makes a great drinking game!

  • While this is just a mini-game collection this is such a fun game to get angry at with your friends so I give it a pass.

  • This game probably isn't very good and in fact the knuckles/rouge levels and tails/robutnik levels really suck, but that doesn't matter to my 10 year old self and hell, I liked the chao's.

  • While I understand this isn't really a fighting game I sure as hell played it as one. It's actually no longer even fun to play with people who aren't "good" at the game now but I still like to show off my skills whenever I get the chance to.

  • Not exactly groundbreaking but a fun light hearted JRPG with some good combat mechanics.

  • Great art, interesting concept, good story.

  • A great refinement of what they did in MGS1, this is where the story starts to go crazy which is exactly where I want it to go.

  • An incredible upgrade over the first game, this sequel makes the first Assassin's Creed completely obsolete.

  • A really cool spin on the Zelda franchise I really enjoyed exploring this world. Dig the art style.

  • A game that ate up a lot of car rides as a kid, simply awesome.

  • Another GB game that ate up a lot of time, I probably never beat it but I had a blast with it.

  • I didn't get to play this on release because I lacked a PC but even 2 years later when I finally got to play it this game blew me away. The last 2 levels of the game are some of the best in any fps.

  • A zelda-esque title that has amazing art and a cool story.

  • My personal favorite of the FF franchise, I enjoyed the return back to it's fantasy roots and more light hearted stories.

  • While I think this a highly overrated game, it still did a lot of cool things in its time and I enjoyed it a lot as a kid.

  • Probably my least favorite in the franchise but again, I enjoyed it enough growing up.

  • The reason I bought a PS2, the visuals, characters, and story in this game blew me away. Auron is still one of the biggest badasses in gaming.

  • There's not much to say that hasn't already been said on the bombcast about this game. It's great. Nolan North. Play it.

  • While not nearly as great as the first game, it's still a great Tomb Raider type of game despite the bullet sponges that are your enemies.

  • The only one in the series I really liked, but I enjoyed this open world platforming gameplay a lot.

  • I'm not going to bother listing every game in the franchise here because I love them all (minus the multiplayer one).

  • Batman. Batman. Batman.

  • An awesome Star Wars game back in the day.

  • This game really got me into western style RPGs. The combat was fine but it was the story and dialogue trees that got me hooked. I still revisit it every once in a while.

  • A great sequel in every way but the ending. The ending really holds it back but still a fantastic star wars game.

  • Definitely my favorite entry in the Fallout franchise. The story and amount of content is great.

  • This game is essentially an incremental upgrade on the first one but the combat is so much cooler that it's a better game for it.

  • One of my favorite JRPGs ever. Simply a great game.

  • Whether you played it or watched it on the site, this game is awesome.

  • The story, amount of characters you can get in your party are enough reason to play this game but the music is phenomenal as well.

  • Not quite the zeitgeist I think a lot of people think it is, it's definitely an amazing game with some great storytelling and characters.

  • My favorite entry in the series, the sheer size of the world is astounding.

  • Probably my favorite sports game in no small part to my skill at it.

  • A lot of characters to collect and a cool diverging storyline makes this game worth a look.

  • While the first game is the real standout, the franchise as a whole great.

  • A game I to this day don't really understand, it's quirky japanese art and gameplay charmed me as a kid.

  • The first multiplayer 360 game I really got into, this game set the bar for the 3rd person shooters that followed it and had a cool story to boot.

  • This is the multiplayer that really hooked me, one of the first games I played the multiplayer before the single player in.

  • A great WW2 single player game. Never touched the multiplayer.

  • As a person who never liked Starcraft 1, SC2 blew me away. Great single player and multiplayer.

  • The fighting game that got me into fighting games, this game was cool in it's day.

  • While it's not Super Mario 64, I enjoyed Sunshine a lot.

  • Some of the best multiplayer ever simply because it's fun while not being stressful.

  • Short but sweet is pretty much the definition of Portal. Perhaps all the catchphrases are a bit played out at this point but the writing was really great.

  • While Heavy Rain wasn't quite the "Citizen Kane of video games" it was a cool experience and had an interesting enough story.

  • A really interesting zelda-esque sci-fi story with a cool photography mechanic, it's not quite as good as everyones always saying it is, but it's definitely an good play.

  • Yet another great Bioware game to put on this list. While I don't remember the characters or the plot very well (except for the twist) it was a very interesting game that was of the same quality as KOTOR.

  • GTA IV was the first truly serious take Rockstar took on it's headlining franchise. You'll see no parachuting or plane flying here, just a lot of Roman fucking up. I actually enjoyed San Andreas a lot, but it was nice to see a more serious departure from the series.

  • This game was basically made to be a time waster between classes or on the bus. It's a nonstop grindfest which isn't terribly deep but a lot of fun.

  • I think this game probably has one of the best opening 3 hours in any game I've played. All the prison bits are my favorite parts about this game and while the rest if perfectly serviceable and fun, its the beginning that I think fondly of.

  • I haven't played the first Deus Ex yet but its sequel was my first game with dialogue trees which I've been in love with ever since.

  • A really great platformer with some stylish combat and a cool time control mechanic. That pretty much sums this game up. The story isn't terribly interesting and the characters are fine but really it's just a very competent platformer.

  • The art, the music, the level designs, the story, the gameplay mechanics, pretty much everything about this game is perfectly done. It has a truly thought provoking narrative, beautiful hand drawn visuals, and simple yet elegant gameplay mechanic and well planned out levels.

  • Limbo has some great art design and puzzle's and that's kind of it, but for a downloadable game that kind of all you need. It's not terribly wrong and there's no real story but its a good 3 hours that'll make you think.

  • One of my first games, I've probably played it about 50 times. It's essentially a rail shooter most of the time but playing through levels over and over again is a lot of fun. So is doing barrel rolls.

  • The first Fable is probably still my favorite in the series. It had the best character customization and the most interesting story. While it didn't live up to the expectations Molyneaux had set the game up for, it's still a great game.

  • Probably the best reason to own a GameCube at the time was this game which totally revolutionized the 3rd person shooter. While all the ideas weren't entirely new, they were refined to perfection in this installment.

  • I haven't played Civ V yet but IV was incredible and is hours of entertainment.

  • I'd always liked the Hitman franchise before but they always had issues. This is the best in the series and has some really great levels that can go many different ways.

  • WoW deserves a spot on here because it's probably the game I've technically played the most. It's easy to get burned out on but it's just as easy to get sucked back in.

  • A great expansion to a great game. The single player was once again fantastic and worth the price of admission.

  • A really good free roaming open world game with some cool powers and a decent comic book story,

  • Beside Halo: Combat Evolved this is my favorite Halo game. I like how they mixed up the Halo formula a bit with the armor abilities and it definitely has the best campaign since the first game.

  • The first God of War was incredible. I had never seen anything like it before. The subsequent titles and its various clones weren't nearly as interesting to me but the first game will always have a place in this list.

  • I was a little late to the party on this game, not getting to play it until after 2 game out, but I really enjoyed it. It made you feel like a badass when you were chaining all these combos together and had a story interesting enough to keep it moving.

  • I feel that I was the perfect age when this came out. I was old enough to be over Mario Kart but not quite ready for Gran Turismo yet, and the soundtrack was just middle school enough for me to like it. I have fond memories of me and my friend switching off at race and crash modes.

  • One of my favorite PS1 games, it had just about everything spider-man you could ask for.

  • The one rhythm game I played enough to play every sone on expert, it had a great track list and was a good challenge.

  • Rosebud.

  • A really awesome crazy hectic game that's fun to watch too.

  • A really awesome platformer that's quite charming.

  • While the single player was great, this had a great, truly unique multiplayer experience unlike anything else.

  • Much like Pandora Tomorrow, good singleplayer and good multiplayer.

  • A really awesome Total War game that improved upon the previous installments in leaps and bounds.

  • The ultimate Total War game as far as I'm concerned. I can't think of much they could add to the series at this point.

  • The first Sims game was a phenomena. I can remember playing for hours each day after school working through one generation of sims to the next. It's a seemingly simple concept that still holds up today.

  • Probably my favorite simulation game. When you actually make a thriving city, the sense of accomplishment is great.

  • A strict improvement on the previous game. Amazing visuals, music, and gameplay, you can't ask for much more than that.

  • Growing up this was one of the games I was always the most fascinated by. It was hardly perfect but did some really cool things.

  • Homeworld 2 is the coolest space RTS out there, which isn't saying a whole lot, but I really would love for there to be a Homeworld 3. There's a lot of things they could improve upon, but this game is just so cool that I'd be okay if they never made a sequel.

  • A dungeon crawler with a world building twist. This game didn't have an amazing story but the characters were fine and the gameplay mechanics were really interesting.

  • I'll agree with Vinny in that Flower isn't as much a game as it is a tech demo, but it's pretty and relaxing and interesting enough to make it worth playing.

  • Best. Game. Ever.
