Can't say I'm surprised in the least, but this definitely explains a heck of a lot. It's just really sad.
 
I still detest the day that Microsoft entered our market. They have introduced so many practices that are detrimental to the videogame industry in the same way they're detrimental to every other industry. They're the bully with a lot of money that have bought gamers hearts, not earned them.

They wasted their time putting it in and now they're wasting their time taking it out.  Development resources that could have been more properly applied.
 
It's a shame, you'd think they'd know better after the last several times they alone have had this exact same backlash. Really doesn't make sense. Well I might actually buy it now during a steam sale.

It requires the people who payed for it to subject themselves to a severe playing restriction.. remind me again how this effects the people who pirate the game? Any justification or reason at all?
 
I was even mildly interested in this title but I can never support pre-draconian measures like this.
