Cheap Games, Fast Achievements

If you're like me, your diamond tipped shoes have been repossessed, your wallet refuses to open and you wonder if the McDonalds value menu is getting a little pricey. So how will your gaming addiction be satisfied? More importantly, how will my gamerscore continue to rise without anything new to play? No worries, I've hit the trash bins and am somewhat proud to bring a list of games even MC Hammer can afford, that will up your gamerscore. Each game will carry a price tag, mostly from second-hand stores.

List items

  • Price: $8.

I know, it's on my overrated list. But it's on that list because my expectations were astronomical. A friend recommended Condemned, describing it as the most terrifying game he'd played. I picked it up, and while I don't agree entirely, it has its moments. The storyline really carries the game. The achievements aren't particularly difficult, but do require attention to detail. A little focus and you'll have the full 970 (yep, 970) within a week.

  • Price: $15.

Lots of unfulfilled potential in this game. In fact, Bourne feels like you're replaying the same level over and over. The combat system is pretty good, but after 7000 fights, enough is enough. Shooting is unreliable, so hand to hand is a must. Opposite of Condemned in terms of achievement style. A premium is put on grinding. Overall, a pretty easy 1000.

  • Price: $12.

The storyline line leaves much to be desired, the combat system retreads territory covered in 1999 and the characters are...not worth the space. But it's one of those games where you don't mind playing, but could live without. Luckily, it's an easy 1000 that doesn't even need the player to finish the game. And there are codes online that make Jericho a cakewalk.

  • Price: $10.

An easy 1000 that can be done in a few hours. Easy and similar to old school Turtles games. But it leaves the same impression as Jericho, which sucks because the Turtles deserve better.

  • Price: $20.

Worth every penny. I've never played the PC titles, so I can't really compare. Fun and challenging, Civ Rev fills the void left by the utter lack of recent console turn based strategy games.

  • Price: $11.99.

Not exactly a secret or a game that flew under the radar, but if you haven't played it yet, now is the time. Maybe the hardest completion on the list, but undoubtedly the best.

  • Price: $8.17.

Not an easy 1000, but a fast 1000. All achievements are storyline related, so one play-through on Veteran is all that is needed. However, that play-through will leave you cursing and breaking nearby objects. Overall, a good game and good multiplayer.

  • Price:400 Microsoft Points.

The first arcade title on the list. The achievements literally take 30 minutes, so if you have too many Microsoft points, by all means. It's not a bad game either, just dated. I didn't actually pay for this, got the Namco Museum Disc off a friend, which has other easy games, so be on the lookout for that.
