Dyran's Top 10 Games of E3 '12 (Because Everyone Else is Doing It)

List items

  • "Damn!" There, I said it. This game has proved to look so amazing and promising that it left me sentence-less. Online integration, city interaction, graphics -- so far, this game is shaping up to be a groundbreaking title, and this time, there's a high chance that that isn't an exaggeration.

  • I've kept up with Naughty Dog since their PS1 days, and, so far, they've never let me down; with the upcomin' release of TLoU, I feel that that routine won't be broken anytime soon.

  • The AC franchise is one of the best in recent memory to have been introduced to us this generation, and with an actually engaging story and solid gameplay, the latest installment of the series looks to carry the tradition of uniqueness and atmosphere even further.

  • Open-world racing, man. I know, that's vague as hell, but hey, I just think that this game looks pretty badass, lol.

  • A fan favorite, the original Borderlands blew gamers away with its scale, gameplay, and arsenal, and Borderlands 2 seems to turn all of that up to the maximum degree. If the original was a good game, then I wouldn't be surprised if this ended up bein' ridiculously awesome.

  • Assassins are in popular demand these days, but in Dishonored, the formula is changed up a bit -- you could tackle different scenarios in insanely unique and different ways, you see everything from a single, first-person perspective, and it's a steampunk game! Holy @#$%! It's been 3 years since I've last seen a really good steampunk-themed game, and with Dishonored in the mix, it thankfully might no longer be my last.

  • What really struck me as interesting was the way the gameplay is being handled through three different perspectives that eventually intertwine into what should be a full-fledged, conspiratorial storyline sure to appease the long-time fans of the series. In spite of its departure from its original, "survival-horror" roots, when looked at as a story-based action game, RE6 definitely looks rather impressive. In a way.

  • Where'd all the [good :P] platforming games go?? Well, look no further, 'cause the latest installment in the Rayman series seems to hold the same charm and fun that we all know and love, and is the answer to the constant violence and crudeness that surround the game industry today. In addition, as a Wii-U debut title, Legends does an extremely effective job in showcasing the next-gen systems' potential and technology -- hopefully, we can say the same for the game's fluidity and quality once it finally comes out, 'ey?

  • A free-to-play multiplayer indie game where you get to play as mechas scrambling around dark, grungy environments in order to defeat or kill your opponents is something I'd take any day. In my opinion, Hawken was definitely one of the more overlooked and "underrated" video games showcased at this year's E3, but hey, at least it's got some recognition by being on a 'Top 10' list of one of the most well-known personalities on the Internet.

  • Whether or not Far Cry 2's differing choice in design was appropriate is irrelevant, because, either way, for me, its story was actually rather good, and considerably well-written; in that same vein, I have a feeling that FC3 will be able to strike a clever balance between the two, providing the familiar, fun gameplay of the original Far Cry while installing a new tone and setting to indulge in alongside it. Whether Ubisoft Montreal pulls it off will be told only by time, but so far, I'm not ready to throw out my expectations just yet.
