Correct, I'd say if you're waiting a span of more than 3 or 4 days for it to be updated though I'd PM a moderator. I've noticed a few people with over 1000 points are indicating that their points total isn't updating as frequently as it used to.

Try doing it in reverse (adding the character to the game). It'll do the same trick.

not when you press the magnifying glass next to the search box. Nothing comes up as a search result

True, the search must treat special characters differently as entering just Fish will bring up 'Fish!' as the second result.

When using the search field the results that are returned are believed to be the most popular pages, not necessarily the closest match. Also, special characters such as exclamation or question marks are ignored when using the search, so that doesn't help out much.

In an effort to cut down on some duplicate threads portraying the same site issues in most cases, all frequently reported site bugs are posted here. This thread is intended to serve as a central hub for users to keep up-to-date regarding various issues that surround the site and at times get staff and moderator feedback on their status. The issues below are categorized into different sections (either by site feature or by the page where bugs were found) to assist a user in regards to easily finding the issues that affect them. Please keep in mind that the site is still in beta.

Frequently Reported Issues


Bombcast

  • All podcasts in the Bombcast Archive are of the most recent podcast
This is a frequent site bug that appears to resurrect itself with every new podcast released.
  • I can't listen to the podcasts
This may not necessarily be a bug. When you click on the play button for a podcast in the Bombcast Archive, nothing might happen. However, when you click the link of that particular podcast just above the play button to make it the topmost bombcast on the new page, the podcast will work when played. If you still can't get the podcasts to work then this most likely has to do with a Flash problem within your browser. Try installing the latest version of the Adobe Flash Player for your browsers (if the latest version is already installed, try reinstalling it) and then try it out again on various browsers.

Error Messages

  • Luchadeer is at a Los Lonely Boys concert
This site error message indicates that there was an internal server error due to a specific request sent from your browser which the server couldn't recognize. If you stumble upon one, check to see if the specific section where you encountered the error and its issue aren't already listed here, and if it's not, make a thread in the Bug Reporting forum, as these errors are caused by the server and not your browser.

Forums

  • Post count does not reflect my actual post history
This issue is a mixed bag. In some cases, it may not be a bug as your post count total does not necessarily automatically change for every new post you make. In other cases, however, you will sometimes only get your post count incremented when you either create a new thread or reply within a specific forum, thus making it sound like a site bug.
  • Post count on Top Posters does not reflect actual post count
This is NOT necessarily a bug.

  • Opting not to have a post deleted in the Delete Post window will delete the post anyways
This is an assiduous site bug. If you click the Delete link for one of your posts, but then click No when asked if you were sure that you wanted it deleted, the post will be deleted anyways.
  • A flood protection message will come up when I edit one of my posts
This is a bug. This was a measure implemented recently to prevent users from flooding the forums, however you will be unable to edit your post unless someone else replies within the thread after.
  • I deleted my own post but it says it was deleted by the moderators
This is an assiduous site bug. All posts you delete yourself will be replaced by a message indicating that a moderator had deleted it.
  • Embedded content is hiding certain popups
This is a frequent site bug. To temporarily bypass the issue, you can try resizing your browser window until the certain popup you are trying to view is unobstructed.

Friends List/Friend Requests

  • Friends won't show up on my list after request was sent and the other party accepted it
This is a frequent site bug. In most cases (but not necessarily all of them) one of the two users who recently became friends can see the other on their friend list but the other can't, and in most cases it is the user who sent out the friend request who is unable to see the other user on their list when they accept it. Users cannot fix the situation by having the friend request sender receive a friend request from the previous receiver as the Requests Waiting for You page will not display it, believing that the two users are already friends with each other. According to staff members, a fix for this issue is currently being developed.

Images (Crowd Moderation Tool)

  • Brand new images have a duplicate entry for the related game under the Add to an Existing Gallery table
This is a frequent site bug. Additionally, one of the duplicate entries will link back to the Crowd Image Moderation tool when clicked.

Images (Uploading Images)

  • "Internal Server Error, please contact Administrator!"
This is a site error message. If you encounter this message, you can try to upload the particular image again, as eventually it should upload successfully.
  • Image was added without my knowledge or Image Window will try to add an image I already have
This bug has been fixed.

Bug Description: When uploading a series of images, if one or more of those images fail to upload (for example, an "Internal Server Error" message occurs), that image will be substituted with one of your recent successful image uploads, regardless of whether it's related to the particular game or not. If such a scenario develops, it is best to hit cancel and try to successfully upload all of your desired images again. Alternatively, a user can upload the images to the My Gallery collection and then attach them to the game you had wished to upload directly to.
  • Image Uploading window will never load
This issue is a browser-based problem. Try clearing your browser cache and cookies and ensure that JavaScript is enabled on your browser. If you are still unsuccessful, try experimenting with different browsers, such as Mozilla Firefox, as in most cases these types of issues are browser-based.
  • Images will never successfully upload

  • Cannot add a gallery to an image AFTER it has already been uploaded
This is an assiduous site bug. When trying to add a gallery to an image that is already successfully uploaded, a 500 error page will be the result.
  • Image thumbnail won't generate
This is NOT necessarily a bug.
Occasionally the thumbnail version of your uploaded image won't get processed until a short while afterward, thus making it a scarce site glitch and not a bug.
  • Image uploaded but never attached to the specific game
This is NOT a bug.
In order for an image to be attached to a certain game, the image must be approved using the Crowd Image Moderation tool. If the image never attaches to the game over a period of time then the majority of the public decided that your image submission didn't meet certain requirements, which will range from whether the image is watermarked or not to its size.
  • Unable to link another related page to an uploaded image
This is an assiduous site bug. Users will be able to search for related pages using the search field, but when an entry is selected, nothing will happen within the search field.

Lists

  • Can't delete an empty list
This is a bug. Removing custom lists do not work at this time.
  • Can't add game to Collection list
This is an assiduous site bug. When adding a game to one of your lists, the Collection button is grayed-out the majority of the time. Alternatively, you can create a collection custom list which will work fine.
  • Can't add game to Wishlist
This is an assiduous site bug, however, it is more avoidable than the Collection list bug. To bypass this issue, press the Refresh button in your browser until the Wishlist button is not grayed-out.

Pages (Editing)

  • Text is oddly formatted
This bug has been fixed.
If you encounter a page with oddly formatted text, try editing the article and then clicking Preview. These issues are mostly caused by a user copy-and-pasting content within the text editor, which has caused the text to output differently than expected or to output the text in the same font used by the source for the text. Another suggested possibility revolves around presentation differences between various browsers. If this problem still persists after following these steps, please contact a moderator or a staff member.
  • Certain descriptions/articles are completely uneditable
This is caused by poorly formatted structures and is found most commonly in the more larger articles. While a main factor to this cause are users who have copy-and-pasted their content into the text editor, particularly when copy-and-pasting tables, other possibilities include browser formatting differences (if you are using Internet Explorer, try using Mozilla Firefox), and whether JavaScript is enabled for your browser. If all steps fail, it is best to notify a moderator or a staff member or create a new thread in the Bug Reporting forum providing a link to the page that can not be edited.
  • My content won't show up when I preview
This is a bug which appears for the most part when a user copy-and-pastes content from a Microsoft Word document into the text editor. If you are going to copy-and-paste content, try to paste it into Notepad first to remove any markups associated with the content, and then copy-and-paste from there.
  • Unable to add or edit an alias
This is NOT a bug.
For the time being, only staff members have privileges for altering this field.
  • Can't change between text styles
Depending on what you are trying to accomplish, this may or may not be a bug for you. In order to best change a text style and run into minimal difficulty, type your desired heading first, and then, while having your heading selected, select the text style of your choosing from the presets drop-down menu. If you are still running into difficulty and Internet Explorer 7 is your current browser, then this issue is a bug, as certain elements of the site are not Internet Explorer 7 compliant yet.
  • When saving one of my edits, no message confirming my successful submission appears
This is most likely a glitch in the system, however, if you encounter such an event, check your Moderation Queue anyways to see if the edit was actually sent, as sometimes it does send while no message will appear after Luchadeer thinks about your request. If it's not on your queue, try it again, including using a different browser if possible.
  • Bold button will not be disabled if bolded text is copy-pasted

Pages (Game Pages)

  • A particular game does not exist on your database
This is NOT a bug.
If a game does not appear to be on the database then a user must create the game page by accessing the "Add a Game" button on the main games page.
  • Average Review score is not calculated properly
This is an assiduous site bug which will inaccurately depict the average user review score for particular games, by usually making the average score less than what it should be.
  • Unable to add news or blogs related to a game
This is an assiduous site bug. At the moment, you cannot add news stories or blogs directly through the News and Blogs menu option inside game pages. Alternatively, you can add related games (although it's currently called relevant comicvine pages) to your blog entries through the Blogs option inside your profile page.
  • Cannot submit a review for a particular game
This is NOT a bug.
Currently, you can only review games that have a release date set. Additionally, that release date must have passed (for example, you can't submit a review for a game that is TBA 2034).
  • User Reviews link will reload the games Overview page
This is a minor assiduous site bug. Every User Review section on a games main page will contain links for specific platforms which a user can submit a review for, a link that will show all user reviews for that game for all available platforms, and another set of links that will show how many user reviews are in each section. All these links are working properly except for one, the link that contains the number of reviews beside the 'All Platforms' link isn't properly linked, as all it will do is load the games main page again.
  • My game submission was rejected even though the game exists
This is NOT a bug.
Chances are that your submission was rejected as the game may already be on the database, particularly if it's available on other platforms than the specific one you specified in your submission. Thoroughly check to see if the game in question is not already in the database, and if it isn't, bring up the topic with one of the moderators.


Pages (Profile Pages)

  • Can't change my profile status
This is NOT a bug.
The submit button has been replaced by the Enter key.
  • When a blog post gets deleted an empty space is left on Profile page
This is a minor assiduous site bug. Whenever a blog post gets deleted, a small empty space will be present underneath the Blogs section of your profile page.
  • My Feed doesn't show my site activities
This bug has been fixed.

Bug Description: Feed entries to your profile pages have been temporarily disabled as they were causing other bugs on the site.
  • Unable to delete my own wall comments from Profile page
This is a bug. Wall comments made on your own wall are not deletable, however, according to staff members, a fix will be implemented soon.
  • Can't change my Notification Settings
This is an assiduous site bug. When you click the Save My Preferences button, a 404 error page will be displayed.

Pages (Other Pages)

  • Concept and Location pages all have broken links
This is an assiduous site bug. All links underneath the pages title, where it says, for example, "Earth is a video game location", location would be a link to the page with all the locations in the database. That link is broken. To bypass this bug, Select Location from the browse drop-down menu at the top of every page.


User Points

  • Points total on my profile page does not reflect the total on the Top Users page
This is NOT necessarily a bug.
Your point count total showcased on particular pages will get updated quicker when compared to other pages.
  • Points total is improperly calculated
This is a bug. Occasionally users may not be awarded points for some of their edits, thus making their points total incorrect. 
  • I have more points than this other user but he is ranked better than I am
This is NOT a bug.
Point totals are updated almost instantly, however, point rankings are only updated nightly.
  • One of my submissions I didn't get any points for it when I should have
This issue is a mixed bag. Mostly, when you are editing a page that previously had content on it, the amount of points you earn depends on the length of your edit when compared to whatever was previously there. For example, if you corrected several typographical errors or cut out something that you thought was needless from an article, chances are you won't be rewarded any points for it. However, there are some cases where a user will add new images to a game or make a lengthy contribution to a new article and still receive no points for it, thus making it a bug.
  • Made a lengthy submission but only received a few points out of it
This is NOT a bug.
When you are editing a page that previously had content on it, the amount of points you earn depends on the length of your edit when compared to whatever was previously there. For example, if you rewrote half of a game description article that was previously on the site but the end result is only about 20 or 30 words more than what was previously available for that particular game, the amount of points you will earn will be relatively small.

Videos

  • Unable to upload videos
This is NOT a bug.
At this time, video uploading is not available to users.

I usually type whatever I want to appear as a title first as plain text, and then I select the text and click Title from the preset dropdown.
