I guess Ryo likes to look at maps while they are upside down, since that seems to be the game's "default" when bringing them up. "Hm. This makes sense."
I'm pretty sure the map is skewed to be facing the same way he is in the game.
Also, does Dan really not think that Dan is a nickname for Daniel? WTF?
I don't really know the rules of lacrosse, but did they do exactly the opposite of what they meant to by making the extra point line being super far out?
Dan still manages to break my brain, talking about how good Golden Corral (and other shit buffet places are) and how he can't tell the difference between diet and regular sodas in a span of 5 minutes. Are we sure he isn't a robot?
@bdrtfm: hence the problem with the absurdly broken 10-point scale as interpreted by gamers: You think a game that doesn't even launch properly should get a 4. Instead of, I don't know, 0.
When 90% of games fall between like a 7 and a 9, it's hard to tell what the fuck scores mean.
@seauton: So the possibility of becoming overly cynical over 20 years is totally off the table here?
Jeff has lost all objectivity (or as close as you can get to that in a critique). Now his opinions are mired by personal pet peeves that are overly pedantic. His lens is heavily biased and anything that falls outside of that is heavily criticized.
But sorry to bag on yours and the rest of Giant Bombs readership's senpai.
His takes on games are just so all over the place. I don't trust his opinions.
As many people have pointed out here, an "objective" review is pretty much worthless. At that point, all you are doing is stating specs and stats. Everyone's opinions is "biased" otherwise it wouldn't be an opinion. If you know that you don't agree with his opinions on games, why do you care what he thinks about them? Find reviewers who views more closely align with your own and they'll give you a much better idea if you'll like a game or not.
In terms of the ridiculous idea that Jeff doesn't like video games anymore, the last negative review he gave was 5 months ago. If you actually pay attention to the site, it becomes very clear that there are tons of games that Jeff loves and tons that he doesn't like. We're living in a time when there are more games than there have ever been and they're certainly the most varied they've every been.
@onemanarmyy: I never said give it 4 stars, I said if you don't like these types of games you shouldn't be reviewing them. Its like if before I went to a mexican restaurant, hating mexican... guess how I'm going to feel when I walk out.. still hating mexican. Would that be fair of me to review the mexican place, saying its awful... when clearly even if it was the best in town, i would hate it? I just feel the review is unfair.
You're right, they should have got Brett to review it. He's the guy on staff who likes 3rd person shooters that play poorly.
