The Best Frustrating Games

So this is a list of all those games you hate to love.  That's right. Those games you wish you could stop playing, because they drive you so crazy, you might kill someone. But here's the kicker. You can't.  They are too addictive. They all have that "Just one more go" about them. Then  hours later, you're still playing it and you've realised it's 2am and you can't feel your fingers anymore.

  • Is there a more frustrating game in existence? I can't think of one. I think all who play this both love and hate it. It's devilish mix of ever increasing difficulty and speed of restart after mistakes (and you will make mistakes) gives it a ruthless combo that draws you in, then smashes your head in repeatedly. Few complete it's Extreme levels. Fewer complete it without the need for anger management classes.

  • Super Meat Boy. This game is DESIGNED you make you hate yourself. Just when you think you're getting good, it throws something else into the mix. You will die. Lots.

  • Another game designed to torment you. I know. Thanks to it's clever level editor, i've created some levels specifically designed to be nearly impossible to complete. Why? Because i'm a bastard.

  • Yes it's old. and yes it's hard! One of the most frustrating difficult games that exist. This pioneered the art of causing as much stress to gamers as it did joy. It may only have a few unique levels, but they are furiously unrelenting. From it's arcade origins, to it's cameo appearance in Donkey Kong 64, it has frustrated gamers around the world. It makes the whole concept of "King of Kong: Fistful of Quarters" and Steve Wiebe that much more impressive!

  • Call of Duty may seem a relatively easy game. It is. Until you play on Veteran difficulty. You won't survive long if you don't have your wits about you. You won't survive much longer if you do. You WILL die a lot. You WILL hate all things that are good. You WILL feel immense relief when you do complete it. And utter the words "Never again"

  • This XBLA original was the Xbox 360's first truly great game. Built to show off those with real skill and determination, the early leaderboards for this game were a war-zone of 1-upmanship. High-scores in the millions were king in the land of Geometry Wars, while most would struggle beyond 100,000 due to it's frenetic pace and relentless bombardment. This game has personified the "One more go" philosophy while destroying the souls of trying to reach a million without dying.

  • Such a wonderful game. So many gruesome deaths. While the initial game does little to punish your numerous deaths, trying to get that achievement by completing the game in one play-through without dying more than 5 times, does. nothing is more frustrating than reaching that 6th death near the end of a 2-3 hour session. The tension you feel navigating that last gravity-defying saw obstacle on your final life is almost unparalleled.
