That reminds me I still have it installed on my PC. Might play again soon. Pretty fun game.

From what I've played I highly recommend:

Probably will be buying Persona Q as soon as possible. There's also Devil Survivor 2 remake coming to the 3DS. The voicework made the game much better for me. I don't mind reading at all (I know I read the vast majority of books in Morrowind for instance) but brings a lot more personality to the characters. I heard there's no Japanese audio of overclocked on the american release so I don't know if the dub is good or not. Anyway, it's a great game and I find it more interesting than Fire Emblem: Awakening. There's also Bravely Second coming soon. I don't care much for the "tales of" series so I can't comment on those but there're a couple on the 3DS I reckon.

edit: Rune Factory IV is pretty fun too! Best in the series.

Sakura Taisen, at least if you can understand the language. It's one of the better dating sims out there. Otherwise, Napple Tale. Underappreciated to hell and back.

Sakura Wars has had one Western release: Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love.

Really, avoid that one. It's not bad per se but very disappointing to any Sakura Taisen fan. The first Sakura Taisen had a decent remake on PS2 but you'll be fine with either of the Saturn or Dreamcast release. I'd stick with the first 4 games. I don't know if there's any fan translations for the DC games but they're great.

@shotgunlincoln hard to recommend unless you state your preferences. Especially the PS2 that's got tons of games worth playing today. For the Dreamcast we obviously have Shenmue 1 & 2 however. The 2nd is also on the (original) Xbox but to be honest it's got all sorts of small texture problems. It's completely playable but I'd rather play the DC version. Might be hard too find though (and expensive). The DC version of Soul Reaver is also the best by far (PC being surprisingly the worst). I wouldn't bother with Soul Calibur despite being a good and influential game. SCII is what I consider the pinnacle of the series.

Kinda happy for the quality of portable games this generation. Too bad the 3DS doesn't have Vita's hardware.

Hopefully the keep releasing better and better games for portables systems. To be honest I wish Persona 5 would go portable and not console.

It's not a big deal. The next gen console are setting records for sales despite doing poorly in Japan. Besides consoles may lose Japan, but they are getting China. A much better market IMO.

Why would they do better in China? It was also reported that part of Sony's losses this reporting quarter was losing out on mobile market in China. I have the sneaky suspicion China doesn't care about any console from any vendor as well.

China ended its ban on consoles this year so sales in China will slowly increase.

I want to preface this comment by saying I have nothing against Carolyn as a person and it sucks that she lost her job. That is the worst and only part I feel for.

I do not believe she is a very good writer, though. I want to say "especially for video games." I suspect she will find a much better job in the end. She would make a very good political blogger or whatever they're called these days. I think that's where her passion really seems to lie- all told.

With Tom Mc Shea, again, I don't have anything against him as a person. I don't think he's a very good writer. His interest in video games, also, seems much more passing (at least the way he writes about them) and seems like he wants a different direction for video games to go than I do. It still sucks that he lost his job, I am fine with disagreeing with everything someone says- it doesn't make them a bad person or whatever.

It is no surprise Kevin is still at Gamespot- Kevin loves video games and has been there forever. Ryan McDonald too. The old guard there is the old guard for a reason.

Honestly this was bound to happen. Gamespot has not been very interesting- beyond Danny's projects- for a really long time. They never seemed to figure out what they want to do to progress the site. I suppose that is a lot to ask, but Gamespot has been in a rut since 2006 or so.

I kinda agree with this. In a way is no surprise both Carolyn and Mcshea are out so I don't really understand all the surprise. It's sad when anyone loses a job though, obviously. If Kevin had been fired then yes, I'd be very, very surprised. Let's hope they have a good career from now on, wherever they go.

Classic Rock isn't a genre, it's a radio format. It's pretty much only defined by whoever programs the major Classic Rock stations.

That's how I see it too. It also cover a broad range of genres if you think about it.

I don't own many video games anymore, but that depends on our definition of ownership. Even though I've purchased numerous games on Steam, Xbox Live, and PSN, I don't own them. I've purchased a license to play them, a license that won't necessarily last forever, and nothing guarantees my previous purchases will work when the next wave of hardware arrives. That's been more and more true as hardware's grown more complex.

@patrickklepek I'd like to point out that by buying a physical copy of a game you are still only licensing the software, as stated by Sony's software license agreement for example. Although it doesn't affect what you said, I think in these circumstances it's important to recognise the fact.

This.

@flameboy84: I prefer Galaxy too to be honest. However, in a way, it's good that they tried something different. I enjoyed but I'm not sure I'd be excited for a 3D World 2. 3D Land was fun too despite being too easy.

@flameboy84: you should be surprised by the existence of Mario Galaxy 2 and not by some new main series game like 3D World that's by the way, an excellent game. It's not isometric-styled either. Maybe a few worlds but that doesn't count as being an isometric-style game. Not that there's anything wrong with that either. Having the camera far from your character doesn't make it isometric.
