Argh, which game do I get?! (fighters)

I want to get another fighting game. I've been rocking SF4 since its release, but I need something to switch off with.

I've been watching videos from the ArcadeInfinity YouTube page, seeing what's what and how a good match looks, and they're both pretty even in my eyes. I wish I could magically be able to get both, but that isn't going to happen.... so hmm. I'll embed a video from each that I really enjoy, so you guys have something to go off of, especially if you haven't been following them.

King of Fighters XII:

BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger

I have played KoF games in the past, which are all pretty decent, just I've never gotten hugely into them, but I do respect them. Seems pretty close to Street Fighter in the terms of general gameplay and mechanics, so seems like it would be easy to settle into, but then again, maybe it would be TOO familiar and not give me enough variety. BlazBlue looks like it borrows heavily from the guilty gear games, but goes more in a darkstalkers direction which I do enjoy. Seems like it would definitely be a night and day change from SF and might give me the variety I hunger for, but it could be a gamble because I have no idea if the gameplay will suit my style, as I've never played Guilty Gear for more than a few minutes. HMMMMMMmmmmmmmmm..................

@xxNBxx: Darkstalkers is a crazy game. I used to like playing Anakaris because he had those crazy ass moves that always had my friends going "WHAT THE HELL IS HE DOING?".

I think some ppl don't like the three character option cause that means they have to learn three sets of moves.  For this reason alone thats why I like it.  It takes a lot skill to become good.  Both of these games play similar to other fighting games. KOF a straight forward fighter like SF. As for Blazblue, its really more like Darkstalkers.  (I bet a lot of these kids don't even know the Darkstalker games)

To be honest, there's something in the new character design in KOF XII that I don't like (maybe it's the size of the sprites? I don't know :S); but I am a big fan of the KoF series so I'm almost sure I'll buy it.

BlazBlue also looks interesting, I have played Guilty Gear and I do like it's gameplay; I'll probably end up buying it too.

In my opinion, If there is the chance, get both. They are different enough to guarantee completely different experiences instead of being a substitute of the other.

Yeah dude, the most epic of battles are always 1v1, and this gives you the ability to get really good at one specific character. Game looks really interesting, and even though I suck at fighters (but I still like them) I now think I'm gonna buy BlazBlue. "

I'm just saying I'd rather have to specialize in one unique character than three similar characters, is all.

@lordofultima:  You have the option to pick a one on one fight in KOF? And besides, the 3 on 3 is great for learning three characters instead of just one, and that's always been KOF's thing.

I think the reason why people are saying BlazeBule is because of the flashy presentation, I don't think it has nothing to do with better gameplay.

As someone who doesn't play fighters, and has never touched a Guilty Gear or a King of Fighters game, BlazBlue looks much better.

Sounds like the SNK team don't even know what they are doing with their own characters...

You can talk about the 'differences' all you want, but really, they aren't very different at all, they all play the same bar a few interchangeable mechanics, if you like one KOF/Fatal Fury/etc game, you'll like the rest, if you don't, you wont like any of the others.

Of course the same applies to guilty gear and other fighters, but my point is that they are so similar you may as well throw them all in the same bucket like people do GG, SF, etc.

You mean Fatal Fury? It's still Fatal Fury, like Real Bout: Fatal Fury -Real Bout contain no story-line, and as for Garou, still Fatal Fury. Actually in the KOF XI booklet, the Garou characters were named the Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves Team.

And as you said, you are not that into the SNK fighters expect for Samurai Showdown, but you have to to into the SNK fighting games to understand the differences a lot more. And for about SmugDarkLoser, what he said about Garou and KOF, he honesty thought KOF and Garou were the same series.

Garou is Fatal Fury, not King of Fighters. And yeah you haven't played BlazeBule but I have a strong feeling you've played Guilty Gear (Which is suppose to be a spiritual successor to BlazeBule).     "
They look the same, and play the same, and feature a lot of the same characters, they might as well be the same. (KOF, Fatal Fury and Garou)It's fine if you don't like Guilty Gear, not many people do it's a bit of an oddball. But i'd take it over an SNK fighter anyday. "
No only a couple of characters from Garou appeared in a KOF game. And beside, Garou has its own unique element such as T.O.P system and Just Defense, which is something you don't see in KOF.

And you don't like the SNK fighting games, whatever, that's fine.

I think BlazBlue looks pretty lame tbh.  Combat looks awkward and stiff to me also.

KOFXII on the other hand looks silky smooth, and generally just badass all-around.  KOFXII all the way.

I should point out I have never played KOF or GG before so... take my opinion with a grain of salt I guess... but I've watched a ridiculous amount of videos for both games.  KOFXII is definitely a day 1 buy for me just based on the videos.  BlazBlue, not so much.

No, they're different, the way you pull off supers and combos is different from SF. And as for Capcom VS SNK, of course it's similar to Street Fighter, the Capcom logo is on the title.

I'm going to get both.  For you, I don't know, but I'd say go with KOFXII.  Arc System Works' fighters are always very complex even when compared to others like Virtua Fighter.  KOFXII seems to be taking it back to the KOF '95 and '96 kinda feel and that might work better for you than BlazBlue.

Most people on this site don't really have any past experiences (Or not much experiences with a lot of other fighters) with the KOF games, which is the reason why there probably choosing BlazeBule.

I say go with KOF XII.

If I play one of the two, then I'm probably going with KoF12.  The sole reason for that decision is that I'm more familiar with KoF12 than I am with BlazBlue...and I'm not a HUGE fan of Guilty Gear or Guilty Gear-esque games.  Also, BlazBlue has far too much clutter on their screens compared to King of Fighters.  Regardless, I don't like the background action in King of Fighters.  It's quite distracting.

So I'll probably just stick to SFIV.

If you think KOF is too similar to SF then you've obviously not played KOF for any good length of time. BlazBlue looks dull as hell.

I'm throwing my hat in the ring for BlazBlue. I personally love the art style and from what I've heard, the gameplay is quite different and full of depth for those who are willing to learn the system.

Blazblue looks like a fighter I would somewhat enjoy and it has that nice art-style I like in those fighters.  KOF XII IMO judging from watching the first match doesn't look all that great and well if you want something different than SF in terms of gameplay, that will not be the right choice since it plays the same from what I see.  I go with Blaze but go whatever you want to play more, its what I always do. :)

BlazBlue has much more style to it and it looks like it'll be the best fighter on the x360 and ps3 when it comes out.
King of Fighters imo is Street Fighter.  Plays so similar except KoF is a tad faster generally.  Those are about tied.

Honestly BlazBlue, but my only justification is that I absolutely cannot get into a KOF game, i've tried and i've hated all of them, they just dont 'feel' right to me. But i'm a huge Guilty Gear fan and BlazBlue looks awesome.

You could always get Battle Fantasia, should be cheap by now, I only had access to a friends copy for a short while but had a lot of fun with it.

Edit: Price irrespective, i'd flat out advise you to avoid MK vs DC, Virtua Fighter 5 and DOA at all costs, especially if you're lookg for something to unwind with.

Failing that, theres some decent ones on XBLA, Garou just came out (I don't like it, but hey) Hd Remix is 33% off this week, and theres a couple others up there I think.

I'd say BlazBlue just because it's really different from SF4, while King of Fighters is more of the same. I'd pick up MK vs DC if you don't have that, though.

I don't know enough about both games to put my input on, but I'd just say whichever game you feel plays better and whichever one looks more fun/exciting to you

I say BlazBlue. I like the art style and characters in it more than KOF and I like the different mechanics of the characters with one guy being able to steal life, one can freeze the opponent, one fights with a marionette in addition to himself, etc. etc. I'm pretty excited for it actually. I need another game to mix up the SF4 goodness.

Neither are games I have been following but based on what you have posted there I would definately go with Blazblue. It looks great and should provide something a lot different to what you have been playing in SFIV.
