Yu Suzuki has bid good-bye to Sega, and with him leaves any chance we had at a sequel to Shenmue II.

... :'(

The Shenmue III ship sailed years ago.

Actually, I think Suzuki left behind most (if not all) of his duties at Sega years ago, as well. Maybe no one ever asked until now? I remember hearing that he had essentially ceased most of his hands-on involvement with game development around the time of VF4's release.

I thought everyone gave up on a Shenmue sequel already.

No Shenmue III, but maybe a Shenmue IV...

To all the lovers of the predecessors, this is tragic.

I think somewhere along the line Sega will cave and give Sonic a break to make a new Shenmue or remake the first 2. this news does make me want to buy a Dreamcast and a copy of the original.

Well, if the designer leaves and he still has a desire to make that sort of game, the chances actually increase that you'll get something like that, just under a different name.  But it seemed like a large, collaborative effort that maybe a single designer couldn't push through on his own.  We'll see if he has the desire to make games after this.

Never played the series and guess never will again, if that makes any sense at all.

Shenmue 2 was the most boring game I've ever played.
