Games which depict hell

I love a good game in which hell is one of the levels. Here are the ones that come to mind, and how hell is depicted. I'm not listing every single game that has hell in it, but the ones I've played with hell in them, and only the first game in a series to depict hell, unless hell significantly changes between sequels.

List items

  • Lots of red, lots of imps!

  • This is a more traditional hell than in Doom. Fire, brimstone, lots of spooky shadows.

  • I guess Oblivion is technically hell in the Elder Scrolls world. Daedra, hostile plant life, lava, weird architecture.

  • Here's an interesting one; hell as World War I. Krauts, Brits, biplanes, trenches, field hospitals.

  • This one has a similar tone as The Darkness, in which hell is depicted as the history of human conflict. It starts in medieval times, and moves through history up to the atomic bomb.

  • From a simple country church, into a long descent into medieval fire and brimstone hell.

  • This hell is full of enormous architecture. And demons.

  • Hades is hell right? Well this hell is full of frustrating timed environment puzzles. Hellish indeed!
