I always thought one of the major strengths of Dragon Age was the fact it did the familiar canon fantasy themes but added a twist, a little subversion. You know, Mages aren't all powerful; they're locked in a tower, Elves are mostly slaves e.t.c. On top of that wasn't it marketed as a 'dark fantasy'? It all seems a bit sunshine and rainbows with the 'Zelda' elves and clumsy retcon. DA2 seems to have lost that uniqueness and has instead charged headlong into cliche land, which I think is a shame.
