Espiox: Best of 2009

  • One of the greatest action games I've ever played.

  • Flawed, yes, but AC2 finally delivers on what I wanted from the original game two years ago (which I enjoyed, by the way, but yes it was repetitive as hell) by stripping out everything but the great core premise and rebuilding the structure of the game entirely.

  • Probably the best superhero game I've ever played. This game feels just right. The way Batman runs, the way the combat flows, the way the stealh works to slowly terrify your enemies, it all works really well.

  • One of the few RPGs I've ever beaten. M&L3 striups away the most boring elements of RPGs - moreso I feel than any of the other Mario RPGs before - and makes every battle fun, and never a grind. The game isn't short by any means, but you're never in one area long enough to feel bored. The main attraction here is the writing though, as always. Fawful steals the show, though Broque Mousier and Broggy are two other highlights. This game should also win the award for Best Final Battle Music.

  • The story was utterly ridiculous and at points was trying way to hard to shock the player (and I'm not even talking about the airport scene) but the gameplay was great and the story was enjoyable despite it's silliness.

  • I wasn't expecting to get this. At E3 it looked like a quick multiplayer port of a good DS game to beef up Nintendo's barren-looking holiday calendar. Instead it turned out to be a game that in my opinion betters the DS game in almost every way.

  • While it's rather stripped-down compared to Rock Band 2, it's exactly what you want from a Beatles game, with a varied selection of music from their whole career (some would argue not enough tracks, but I think 45 is enough for a single-band game) and recreations of some of their most famous live concerts. The dreamscapes are probably the single greatest thing about the game, though.

  • Compiles one of my all-time favorite games with it's two sequels with new features, tweaked difficulty and the best FPS controls yet seen on Wii.

  • Yeah, this one came out in 08, but the constant DLC releases all the way through to the summer kept me playing this one on an almost weekly basis this year. Possibly my favorite driving game of all time.
